seems like so far, so good, we will continue to watch it. >> feelings of frustration and anxiety this morning from some pg&e customers this morning dealing with power shutoffs. amy is live with more. good morning. amy: it is calm calm calm calm m outages in the bay area at this time and pg&e says it isn't canceled, but they haven't turned off the lights yet read they do call the power shutoffs positive from a firefighting perspective, saying that they do this to keep people safe. some residents don't see it that way. pg&e says the latest power safety shutoff will affect about 4000 customers. they say they are doing it because of the dry, windy conditions, that they are trying to prevent their equipment from sparking a fire but some say that it makes life difficult for

them. >> we are a littl a littl a we live on a well and if we don't have, if we don't have power, we don't have water. a couple of days of that puts us behind. we have kids, it's really frustrating. we are kind of over it. amy: people deftly prepared, hardware stores are low on batteries and flashlights. the lights will likely be off until tuesday, meaning giants fans out there without power will not be able to watch the game at home tonight, so if you have power, you might want to invite them over to watch the game. so far no outages in the bay area but pg&e says they haven't canceled it, so it is a possibility. >> amy, thank you. solano county could be one of the most affected by the power cut offs, if they end up happening.

it could affect up to 4000 customers. pg&e has been attract that -- has been tracking the windspeed in the county. the vacaville fire department battalion chief says they are doing the right thing by shutting up power preemptively and that these weather patterns are giving him flashbacks to the complex fire. >> low humidity and high wind, that's the recipe of the combination of things that could reach fire spread rapidly and it is absolutely a positive thing from a firefighting perspective that they kill the power. >> despite the support from the fire department, they continue to face criticism from residents as they prepare for the fourth of the year. you can keep track of real-time weather conditions were you live anytime. we have current air quality here with a seven-day forecast on live doppler 7 and you can find it i downloading the app for your sweet dreaming device. >> southwest airlines still

dealing with rebooking customers. this following hundreds more from over the weekend and across the country, including some right here in the bay area. tim johnson was at the oakland international airport over the weekend and has what the airline says is happening. >> southwest airlines canceling 1800 flights over the past few days and some of those affected were here in the bay area. >> didn't think the flight would be canceled, but the flight was canceled. we had to spend the evening here in san francisco. >> they say the problem stems from bad weather and air traffic control issues. saying it is a problem of the florida airports and compounded by unexpected air traffic control issues triggering delays and prompting significant

cancellations beginning friday evening. the faa has denied current problems, saying that there have been nocoroissues extent. sunday alone, southwest canceled one quarter of all of their scheduled flights. compared to less than 2% of american airlines. in a separate statement on sunday, the union representing southwest pilots denied that the issues were caused by the recent vaccine mandate, issues of which had been circulating online, saying that there were false claims of job actions by pilots gaining traction on social media and making their way into mainstream news and i can say with certainty that there are no work slowdowns or sick outs related to the recent vaccine mandates or otherwise. as of sunday evening, flights flying out of the airport

>> the oakland police department will be part of a community meaning to talk about gun violence. dan cobb is hosting the virtual discussion. a number of departments will be there. it starts at 6:30 tonight and you will soon notice a new kids section at retail stores. california is the first state requiring those stores to have a gender-neutral display for kids toys. governor newsom signed the bill over the weekend. the law does not include clothing and it only applies to toys and childcare items, including hygiene and teething problems -- products. small businesses are exempt and it goes into effect january 1. >> we are committed to building a better bay area and we are focusing on race and social justice. on this indigenous peoples day

we are highlighting a group of native american women working to fight for cultural heritage and get their land back. >> we are standing on the first quarter acre of land returned to us in 250 years. where we stand today is a part of that territory. our relativour relativour relatr and our connection to the land, even though we never left. our ancestors went through three waves of colonization and genocide. as we begin to talk about the history, people begin to realize that the people are still here. this means gift in our language. land in the bay area is expensive and the people are having to buy back their own land. this offers folks that are not indigenous to pay an honorary tax, a way to live in reciprocity on the land that you work, live, or play on.

it was gorgeous. temperatures were nice, usually much warmer, and the wind held off into the later part of the day. now we are dealing with strong northerly winds. in the hills we are looking at gusty winds. there is where we start, about 1000 feet where the wind is anywhere from 25 to 30 miles per hour from mount tam above the half moon bay. now we go down to the surface where in santa rosa it's 20 miles per hour. nevada, oakland, sfo, half moon bay, pressing into the southbay and into the east bay, increasing throughout the day as relative humidity decreases. 20% to 30% range right now, the strongest wind will be the -- will be below 20%, really showing you how much moisture is in the air. we are watching those in land valleys. tonight we don't get much in the way of recovery as tomorrow

potential bay area outages and orange. much farther to our north past the clear lake area, this morning hollifield's live with us at the entrance to the state park. amy? amy: good morning. it's very calm this morning with no outages yet in the bay area. pg&e tells me they have not canceled but they could get the hot shower coffee maker for now. but it is a possibility that the power will go out for a few customers, saying that they will be doing this contra costa, all expected to lose power. they say they expect to do this to keep the equipment from

in a matter of weeks. reggie: growing concerns in the impact of covid vaccine mandates on first responders and military personnel as deadlines loom. the l.a. sheriff says he will not be enforcing the requirement that all employees get their shots. >> i don't want to be in the the position of losing my workforce overnight over a vaccine mandate. reggie: seattle, 300 officers could be fired if they don't submit proof of vaccination by next monday. the deadlines are also approaching for u.s. troops to get their shot. hundreds of thousands have yet to comply, facing potentially career ending consequences. nationwide some 68 million eligible americans have yet to get vaccinated. we are less than three weeks away from halloween and dr. anthony fauci is giving the ok for kids to return to trick-or-treating if your family is vaccinated because it is mostly outdoors.

in san francisco since pandemic began. the ship is called the majestic princess and it marks an important milestone in the san francisco economic coverage. the city welcomed 200 80,000 visitors in 2019 and it represents a full circle moment for the bay area and it was the last time that a high profile ship was here in march of 2020, it was a different princess ship headed to oakland for a very different reason. you will remember the covid-19 outbreak on the ship and it was a massive days long effort to get everyone out safely and it was of course very early in the pandemic when there were still so many unknowns. all the passengers were brought to military bases where they quarantine for two weeks, who can forget that? that day that we were talking live on the air to the people on the ship. much better times now on the majestic princess here in a pleasure cruise. passengers had to be vaccinated
