he surit's been br10 to 15 milen francisco. good visibility. temperatures in the 50's to start out. the wind will ease later on today. in the north bay, sheriff's deputies have attained a man related to the fires in american canyon. that is very amy hollyfield is joining us with more. >> residents are feelinglingling grateful this morning for the work of firefighters, that they managed to protect a neighborhood and school. behind me, you can see crime tape at the american canyon high school. they protected, roped off the high school, did what they could to save it. the fire started just after 6:00 on the east side of american canyon in napa county.

firefighters issued an evacuation morning for a neighborhood. no homes were damaged in the fire. firefighters do suspect arson. officials took a 20-year-old man in with burns. >> when officers got on scene, they found a car that looked like it was on fire in an area that a car does not belong, off road near a water tower. >> they have not released his name. they say the car that was burning was stolen out of vallejo. the fire is 50% contained. they expect full containment later this morning. they say it burned about 150 acres. jobina: this is the same area where a fire broke out two years ago, the american fire.

one homeowner share this video. the fire starting west of interstate 80. kumasi: pg&e expected to restore power today to customers impacted by the latest power shut off, psps. they started early yesterday morning and you can see on this pg&e map, the pink triangles represent areas without power. outages affected customers in seven bay area counties. pg&e says the weather could force a new round of shutoffs later on tomorrow. we have been dealing with public safety power shutoffs for three years. in july, the utility announced plans to bury 10,000 miles of power lines to minimize risk, but some say that is not the most cost-effective solution. >> as the bay area faces another

threat of rolling blackouts, for the past three years, it feels like deja vu again and again. >> it is job one for a california utilities to get better at this. >> the codirector of the national defense resource council program. he has advised leadership at north american utility companies for decades. >> nobody wants to be without power for any length of time. >> over the past three years, utility companies are your tithing two goals to reduce the risk of rolling blackouts. >> reduce the power shutoffs and restore power more quickly. >> over the past three years, pg&e has made progress getting control of the power grid to black out areas only deemed necessary to prevent fire risk, as well as enhancing inspections to store power faster. >> over time, the severity of

kumasi: here is a much different scenario than what we've been seeing in south lake tahoe. jobina: check out the snow coming down in town yesterday. after a dry summer and the flames from the caldor fire, seasons first snow dust et al. hell with some nice powder. enough to require chains on highway 50 between twin bridges and myers. a lot of drivers got caught without them, so traffic was brought to a standstill in some places. lisa: are you sure that is not filed video? it started at noon yesterday.

grand teton national park last month. officials are still searching for her boyfriend, brian laundrie, who is nowhere to be found. kumasi: in southern california, two people are dead and two others are injured after this plane crash in san diego. it came down on top of a house. >> oh my god. kumasi: the small plane crashed into two homes and a delivery truck. seconds later, the wreckage exploded. the thistles confirmed -- officials confirmed two people died, a doctor, the pilot, and ups driver on the ground. >> with covid, everything has been deliveries. he talks to our kids, everybody knows him. he has been a part of our community. when i saw his truck, that is what hurt the most. kumasi: the pilot owned the

you can see the wind at ballmer peak. 55 in livermore. wind gusts at 57 mile per hour. mount st. helena over 57 miles per hour. at the surface, it's been breezy. the debris blowing around on the roadways. livermore, wind gust at 24 miles per hour. it will be windy today. 60's and 70's. lighter wind and a chilly night tonight. jobina: chp officers are investigating this deadly crash in alameda county. it happened on redwood road. officers say they found the card 10 feet off the pavement. the driver was the only person inside. the cause is under investigation. the chp expects to release an update sometime today.

in southern california, the alice all fire is forcing evacuations and threatening 100 structures. matt gutman has the latest on the firefight. >> you can tell the fire has been exploding over the past 13 hours. largely driven by all of that wind. you can see it is scattering the fire. it is also casting embers hundreds of feet into the air. it has been raining ash since we have been here. firefighters have been trying to put out the flames. firefighting aircraft has been grounded because of all of this wind. they had bulldozers, a couple hundred firefighters out here, but they managed to protect a vast majority of the structures here, including the ronald reagan ranch. that continues to be under

threat, i'm told. the good news is, over the coming hours, the wind is set to die down, hopefully reducing the ferocity of these flames. right now, the fire is at 0% containment. all of this is driven by this historic drought we are in. everything is so incredibly dry. in the bay area, when those wind gusts come in, a fire can start so quickly. jobina: thank you. in napa county overnight, the sheriff's says that arson may be to blame for the fire in american canyon. a man found near a burning car was taken into custody. amy hollyfield is following the story. what more do we know about the man? amy: he is 26 years old and they treated him for burns when they found him. if he started the fire, he

created quite the scare. look at the crime tape at american canyon high school. the fire was heading this way. it also threatened a neighborhood. firefighters issued a warning for a nearby neighborhood. the fire started just after 6:00 last night near the high school, and the wind really helped push the fire along. residents say it looked close and threatening. >> as soon as i walked out the door, the whole hill was on fire. >> i saw a ball of smoke, orange. >> i had a bag ready to go with all of my need to haves. >> the man who they detained was found near a burning car, and they say it was a stolen car from vallejo. the man was found near a water tower in a creek area off of the main road. they have not released his name but they do suspect arson. they stopped the forward

progress of the fire last night, lifted the evacuation morning at 8:15. they got about half of the area contained with fire lines, looking at finishing up this morning. they think they will have t wila containment line finished around 8:00 this morning. kumasi: thank you, amy. fierce wind field fires across the south bay, even though it was not in the red flag area. there is cr wrote in the east foothills. the fire threatened eight homes there. neighbors were hosing down the flames even before firefighters got there. >> we were hosing the fire in the wind was pretty strong, which didn't help. >> my husband called me, told me there was a fire across the creek. we just packed up.

disastrous weekend that found people delayed or stuck. as of this morning, 87 flights are canceled, 200 delayed. the carrier said weather service problems caused a domino effect. the ceo gary kelly is on gma debunking rumors that it had sunk to do with vaccine mandates. >> the vaccine mandate is controversial, not anything that i wish for our company. this is a government mandate, a presidential order, and we are doing our best to comply with that according to the deadlines. we are not going to fire any employees over this. we are urging all of our employees to get vaccinated. if they cannot get vaccinated, we are urging them to seek an accommodation. jobina: it's a much different stance from how united is approaching its vaccine mandates for all employees.

more for gas these days. prices have nearly doubled in the past year and a half. according to aaa, the national average is $3.27 a highest in the past seven years. in april, the average was less than two dollars. we know here in the bay area, is a different story. the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in oakland and san jose is $4.53. san francisco is $.10 higher than that. instacart is branching out to drum up new business to its platform, according to the company's chief executive. they saw business skyrocket in the pandemic when they added 300,000 contract workers to keep up with grocery orders. business in that sector is slowing, but the company says it has other plans in store. it is beefing up its online
