[laughter] not even from l.a. he should be wearing orange tonight for texas, the longhorns, and the giants. spencer: some of the best trash talking or have ever heard. larry: game time today is 6:07 p.m.. spencer: let me give you the lead up to game time. right now temperatures in the bay area, 66 in the city. and the wind is only at 50 miles per hour in san francisco. what is it going to be like at game time? certainly beautiful at the start of the game, the sun will be shining, skies will be clear all the way through. the don't expect clouds. it will get cooler later in the game. the wind is expected to be moderate, may be 10 to 15 miles fish, and occasional gusts to 20 miles per hour. we don't expect gusty winds that will have a significant effect on the way the game is played, or the outcome.

a great night for baseball, larry. larry: onto more serious news now, walgreens has decided to close various stores in san n ee who is just fed up with feeling unsafe at work. anchor dion lim brings us the story will see only on seven. >> i am 63 years old and i need to work to survive. i am not working at walgreens to get hurt. dion: this walgreens recalls the shocking experience she had while working at a san francisco store in may of 2020 when she asked a suspected shoplifter to put on a mask. >> i was hit in the for dion: she missed three weeks of work and still suffers from emotional trauma. >> i am scared another i go to work -- whenever i go to work, i'm thinking, am i safe?

dion: not long after, she and a colleague were attacked again. >> pepper-sprayed. like this. and i started coughing. dion: stories like hers are not uncommon. shoplifting like in another instance like this one involving a fire extinguisher. incidences like that have been widely documented. including in this video taken by my colleague at a hayes valley store in june. a security supervisor contracted by walgreens, speaking on the condition of anonymity. you are not worried about your own job? >> [laughs] i do but i think someone's life is way more important than a job. dion: described a typical day working at various locations. >> i have been spit on, coughed on. i had a pee bottle thrown at i have been cut by a shoplifter. i have been bit by a shoplifter. dion: despite the attacks, they love what they do. >> going to work does not feel like a job.

nearly one third of them are in vaccinated. larry: you can add contra costa county to the list of counties lifting masking requirements in certain indoor settings where everybody is fully vaccinated. this order takes effect november 1 at offices, james, college indoor classes, -- gyms, indoor classes, and similar rules take effect tomorrow in san francisco and marin counties. joining us now to discuss this is a doctor with contra costa health services. what is the situation in contra costa county as we speak with regard to changing the mask rules? >> well, we are coming out of a severe delta wave. so as the cases come down and vaccination rates increase, we are able to relax our indoor masking requirements in these specific, very safe settings in which everyone present is fully vaccinated. larry: how soon do you think

will be, and i know this is pure speculation because with data, you don't know what is coming next week, but do you have a timeline where you think people will be able to take their masks off for good? >> well, i joined with my colleagues in eight other bay area jurisdictions to set criteria for when we could all lift our indoor masking orders. those criteria include getting our vaccination rates either up to 80% of the entire community, or at least eight weeks since vaccines have been available for five to 11-year-olds. we anticipate that we will reach one of those milestones within two or three months. we may be looking at december or january. larry: i am really glad you brought that up, because that is my next question. a lot of people are confused because everybody was under the impression at least, that you had to meet three thresholds or

pass three barriers -- moderate transmission i think for three weeks? 80% vaccination rate, and hospitalizations have two below. but there are a lot of counties that cannot meet all three of those. where is contra costa with those benchmarks? >> we are not yet in the moderate transmission category, although if our current trends continue, we expect to reach that category in two or three weeks and then have another three weeks in that category to meet the benchmark. as far as our hospitalization rates, we are below our local milestone of having less than 75 covid nations in the hospital. so those two benchmarks are within site. we think the vaccination benchmark will be the next one that we reach. larry: lastly, how concerned are you. this has been writing a wave here, as soon as we take off

their masks, the weather is cooler and more people indoors, we see another spike. does that worry you? dr. farnitano: it does worry me. we were hopeful in june when the state masking order was lifted. we thought we were in a good place. and then we got surprised by delta. it was much more contagious and we had come out of a summer surge of delta. we are hopeful that if we can get our vaccination rates up, if we can vaccinate young kids, we can get our community vaccination rate at a level that even with delta present, even with gatherings for the holidays, we can keep this virus at bay. larry: dr. chris farnitano, thank you so much for your time. fingers crossed. we hope we don't see further spikes. dr. farnitano: i hope so, too. kristen: alright, now we want to turn our attention once again to the weather. we have that exciting giants game in a few hours. spencer: looks like the weather

later than it has be t days. still, it red flag warning in effect for fire danger in solano county until 8:00 p.m. it is a bit breezier there, the wind stronger, and in many parts of the bay area. this is in effect until 8:00 tonight. fires can start and spread quickly and are these conditions. you can see the wind speeds at the surface, not more than 15 to 18 miles per hour in the busiest locations, which would include san francisco, by the way. and you can see in the past 24 hours, most bay area locations are quite warmer than yesterday, 66eght n.73nin mountain view, san jose. blue skies once again over the .

pleasant in the northbay, 78 in santa rosa and napa. fairfield, 81. upper 70's at concord and livermore in the east bay. here is the view from satterfield. you can see the trees blowing in the breeze. seems quieter n. here is our forecast features -- quiet overnight and near summerlike warmth tomorrow and saturday. and then it turns much cooler, with unsettled weather beginning on sunday and continuing through next week. overnight, a few passing high clouds. chili in the north with low temperatures in the mid to upper 40's, but most other locations in the bay area will see overnight lows. in the 50's 77 in san francisco tomorrow. 80 in oakland and san mateo in the southbay. the inland east bay will be a warm region, highs in the mid 80's there. . in the northbay, 85 in sandra file. 81 in napa. warmth is underway.

immigrants and people of color, who they say are traditionally targets of excessive policing and surveillance. we reached out for a response, we have not heard back. larry: time for consumer news. kristen: 7 on your side's michael finney is here now. michael: a company is confirming that hackers accessed and even charged user accounts. the verizon service is called visible. after an investigation, visible says it is likely a case of credential-stuffing, that is when hackers steal usernames and passwords from one company and put them together and use them at another company, trying to check out those accounts. what happens when people reuse similar usernames and passwords for different accounts. the company is recommending customers change their passwords. the national highway traffic safety administration wants to know why tesla failed to file record documents for software issues that put safety at risk.

an investigation was opened after multiple reports of teslae vehicles, resulting in 17 injuries and one death. tesla must reply with -- must comply with nhtasa'shtasa'shta's request for face fines and penalties. mcdonald's is branching out. it will now offer the new mcplan t. the fast food burger chain is rolling out land-based burgers in eight trial locations starting november 3. the parties were developed with beyond meat. two locations in southern california will offer the mcpl ant sandwich on a limited trial basis. we will keep track and see if they come up here in the bay area. larry: interesting. big mac --

announcer: building a better bay area. moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. larry: the wildfire battle continues in southern california. crews are fighting fears flames, trying to get the upper hand on the fire that is burning in santa barbara county. so far, more than 16,800 acres have burned. the fire is only 5% contained.

abc 7 news reporter alex stone with the latest. alex: for firefighters, it is a race, trying to use the break in the wind to tackle the flames before santa ana winds return on friday and into the weekend. efforts are fired in a remote area -- focused in a remote area of santa barbara county. at times, the 101 freeway shut down. the window of progress is closing. >> we expect to have some seesawing we expect r ekthll see, if notsu will see fire crews out there putting out hotspots. alex: on monday and tuesday, the flames of the fire exploded. wind gusts were up to 70 miles per hour, embers jumping a mile ahead of the flame front, creating spot fires. flames pushing toward the ocean. because of the wind, the biggest asset firefighters have, could not fly. >> normally with a fire like

this, you are used to seeing dozens of air tankers and helicopters flying around, making their attack. they are poised and ready to do so every time the wind lets up. alex: but on friday, the concern will not just be santa barbara, it will be throughout california. firefighters are already exhausted. >> i had the opportunity to see some really, really tired folks on the line. alex: with the strong santa ana winds blowing, humidity levels around 8% --and a red flag warning, extreme fire behavior will be likely. the wind returns as this man watches firefighters try to save his ranch. >> hope he makes alex: one silver lining, by sunday, the winds are expected to come in from the ocean and bring some clouds and even drizzle. drizzle. alex stone, abc news. kristen: oakland health officials are trying to help residents breathe better during wildfire season.

today, portable air filtration units were distributed to low income residents diagnosed with a respiratory illness. . they will help mitigate wildfire impacts, especially to west oakland's most vulnerable residents. >> more needs to be done to protect the community, and there needs to be an urgent delivery of clean, filtered air for residents here. kristen: the event is part of the city's clean air filtration program, which is working to improve air quality in oakland. larry: how speaker nancy pelosi is back in san francisco, promoting the build back better act, in particular the parts that tackle the climate crisis. political, environmental, and religious leaders joined her to rally support, saying it will create jobs and help underserved communities, which are the most adversely impacted by climate change. >> the build back better agenda, building back more inclusively and sustainably, will be our nations largest ever investment in a sustainable future, and as

california knows all too well, it can't come soon enough. larry: pelilstoed aspects of the bill that she says would support families with things like universal pre-k, family and medical leave and child tax credits. kristen: u.s. housing and urban development secretary marcia fudge was in oakland talking about plans to create more affordable housing as part of the build back better agenda. abc 7 news reporter tim johns tells us how it could impact the residents. tintrenched housing crises here in the bay area, the biden administration says it is working to provide solutions. on thursday, the u.s. had sec. marcia fudge, was in oakland with congresswoman barbara lee affordable housing developments. >> california has the worst housing crisis related fish. the largest number of he eryayl. tim: it is part of the presidents build back better

campaign out of which focuses on affordable housing construction. the housing they toured was an old college dorm now transformed into a place to house those in need. fudge says it is an example of what she would like to see happen in other places in the bay area. >> we are talking about vouchers how we do things like tiny houses and container houses. we are looking at every possible option. tim: while building and economic development are longer-term strategies, they are also working on providing more short-term relief. some of that includes more public-private partnership between the government and property developers, creating more options and less wait times. >> how we can expedite the process and cut through the red tape and the bureaucracy, and make it happen. tim: because despite all housing problems, fudge says the solutions being implemented here in the bay area are leading the

space race contenders are being criticized by british royalty. a day after jeff bezos sent hollywood start william shatner into space, prince william said in an interview that the world's greatest minds should focus on saving this planet, not leaving it. the duke of cambridge is not the only one who has criticized space travel. committee" and on brian and senator elizabeth warren have also spoken out about the world's richest man using their wealth to fund the space tourism race. what he think, dan? dan: i get it, but you could say that about anything. first, it is theirfirst, i they can spend it the way they want. it is not mutually exclusive. many of these people are also donating and spending money on other good causes here on earth. so i don't think you can do one and not the other. also, while this is certainly allowing billionaires and wealthy people to fly into space, it is also advancing to

some degree our knowledge of space travel and expanding our ability to improve the technology, so there are some benefits that come with it as well. it is a tempest in a teapot. kristen: what do, spencer? spencer: i don't disagree with dan, but i would like to see these billionaires will get attention for this pursuit of the adventure in space -- which i think is great -- i would like to see them get attention for doing something to make life more livable here on earth. i am sure many billionaires are doing that quietly. i would like to see more attention focused on that. larry: mark benioff is among them. he is involved with the ocean cleanup project, trying to push the nation to plant a trillion trees. i would like to see the push in that direction as well. kristen: not to mention how much money mckenzie scott has donated to various causes, jeff bezos' ex-wife. dan: right, this is just one sliver of how they spend their

money. larry: aright, the force is strong. a team of star wars enthusiasts build a life-size replica of luke skywalker's fighter. the crew of six siberian cosplayers it on instagram. looks more a lot more elaborate than that. unfortunately, it doesn't have the capability to take anybody to a galaxy far, far away. earlier this year the crew went viral from building a replica of the razor crest gunship from "the mandalorian." these guys are all in. they are not messing around. spencer: it looks authentic. dan: they have done a great job. i don't think it will take you around the block, much less a galaxy far far away, but really cool. spencer: it's a lot of work. kristen: i think they just put out a good demo tape for when they need to hire people for the next star wars movie. they can be the set designers.

we have some samples for everybody to try. matt, everybody has a pumpkin version. what is the difference with duncan's pumpkin spice? matt: great question. thanks for having me on. we have to start with go giants, right? [laughter] it is orange, here we go. got my signature latte here. we notice the trend lately that the pumpkin used to be heavy on the spice and now it is more of a pumpkin light flavor, more of a profile like a pumpkin puree or pumpkin pie, less of the spice and more on the authentic pumpkin flavor. our pumpkin quote -- called foam, we use real pumpkin. it is tasty. dan: it is excellent, actually. kristen: this is the pumpkin spice latte. i like it. and which one is this?

you get two lairs of taste. two different flavors which combines nicely. matt: absolutely. we just released that yesterday, our new peanut butter cup mike gatto with our rainforest alliance satisfied as -- certified espresso beans. it's like you are sipping on a peanut butter cup. it is delicious. . the kids get halloween and we get this. [laughter] dan: you can really taste the espresso beans in there. kristen: and you guys have doughnuts and muffins? matt: we do. for halloween, we have our very spooky spider doughnut. dan: i love that. matt: along with our apple cider doughnut in our pumpkin doughnuts. we have through the rest of the season here and they are fantastic. i try to taste test one or two a day just to keep up, quality assurance. it is an important job. someone's got to do it.

dan: it is the sacrifice you make for the good of. matt:. matt: the customer you are welcome. kristen: the apple cider one is so good! spencer i know you don't eat a lot of sweets, but this is really good. spencer: and this is my favorite drink too. really good. larry: so how long will all of these flavors be available? any and it down a little more? matt: yeah. we will have them through the end of the year. all the way through the end of december. pumpkin, people -- i am one of them -- just go crazy over it. it is one of those things that we can't have early enough and we can't keep it long enough. so we will have it through the end of december. and i will be drinking them through the end of december. kristen: i have to be honest. i am a bit of a coffee snob. i think dunkin'has great coffee. people think of it for the doughnuts, but it is absolutely really good and much better than a national chain out there whose name we shall not say. [laughter] matt: i would never make reference to that, but you are

absolutely right. it is funny, dunkin'on the east coast is really known for the coffee. on the west coast, it is part of the name we changed our name from dunkin' donuts to dunkin'. we sell more coffee than doughnuts. we have regulars who come in every day. dan: on the east coast it is famous for the coffee, dunkin'. matt: yes. larry: i spent six years back east and the dunkin'kept me alive, ok? larry: just in time for halloween, a really scary story. and owner of a sonoma county whom found more than a few rattlesnakes living inside her house. in fact, nearly 100 were found. reporter cornell barnard spoke to the brave men who had the job of evicting those snakes. cornell fis: loves his job despite the risks. you ever get bitten? >> 13 times. cornell fish he is a rattlesnake wrangler and director of the sonoma county reptile rescue. >> this is a rattlesnake.

i can tell by the length of his tail. cornell fish he has been removing rattlesnakes from properties for over 30 years. he thought he had seen everything until easily when a homeowner called after spotting a snake going underneath her mountainside home. this trip called for the labs. >> they are snake gloves so this makes can't bite through them. because at this point they are dangerous. they are not even there a minute before i find my first rattlesnake. cornell: the count multiplied, reaching 50 and higher. >> 92 rattlesnakes underneath her house. i was tickled pink. i wish that happened everyday to me. cornell: he needed a bigger bucket to remove all the baby rattlesnakes found inside that house. >> nearly 100 rattlesnakes found in one location. almost unheard of and, now says the drought has a lot to do with it. by the way, don't try this at home. >> the drought will cause
