a great night for baseball, larry. larry: onto more serious news now, walgreens has decided to close various stores in san n ee who is just fed up with feeling unsafe at work. anchor dion lim brings us the story will see only on seven. >> i am 63 years old and i need to work to survive. i am not working at walgreens to get hurt. dion: this walgreens recalls the shocking experience she had while working at a san francisco store in may of 2020 when she asked a suspected shoplifter to put on a mask. >> i was hit in the for dion: she missed three weeks of work and still suffers from emotional trauma. >> i am scared another i go to work -- whenever i go to work, i'm thinking, am i safe?

will be, and i know this is pure speculation because with data, you don't know what is coming next week, but do you have a timeline where you think people will be able to take their masks off for good? >> well, i joined with my colleagues in eight other bay area jurisdictions to set criteria for when we could all lift our indoor masking orders. those criteria include getting our vaccination rates either up to 80% of the entire community, or at least eight weeks since vaccines have been available for five to 11-year-olds. we anticipate that we will reach one of those milestones within two or three months. we may be looking at december or january. larry: i am really glad you brought that up, because that is my next question. a lot of people are confused because everybody was under the impression at least, that you had to meet three thresholds or

pass three barriers -- moderate transmission i think for three weeks? 80% vaccination rate, and hospitalizations have two below. but there are a lot of counties that cannot meet all three of those. where is contra costa with those benchmarks? >> we are not yet in the moderate transmission category, although if our current trends continue, we expect to reach that category in two or three weeks and then have another three weeks in that category to meet the benchmark. as far as our hospitalization rates, we are below our local milestone of having less than 75 covid nations in the hospital. so those two benchmarks are within site. we think the vaccination benchmark will be the next one that we reach. larry: lastly, how concerned are you. this has been writing a wave here, as soon as we take off

their masks, the weather is cooler and more people indoors, we see another spike. does that worry you? dr. farnitano: it does worry me. we were hopeful in june when the state masking order was lifted. we thought we were in a good place. and then we got surprised by delta. it was much more contagious and we had come out of a summer surge of delta. we are hopeful that if we can get our vaccination rates up, if we can vaccinate young kids, we can get our community vaccination rate at a level that even with delta present, even with gatherings for the holidays, we can keep this virus at bay. larry: dr. chris farnitano, thank you so much for your time. fingers crossed. we hope we don't see further spikes. dr. farnitano: i hope so, too. kristen: alright, now we want to turn our attention once again to the weather. we have that exciting giants game in a few hours. spencer: looks like the weather

announcer: building a better bay area. moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. larry: the wildfire battle continues in southern california. crews are fighting fears flames, trying to get the upper hand on the fire that is burning in santa barbara county. so far, more than 16,800 acres have burned. the fire is only 5% contained.

abc 7 news reporter alex stone with the latest. alex: for firefighters, it is a race, trying to use the break in the wind to tackle the flames before santa ana winds return on friday and into the weekend. efforts are fired in a remote area -- focused in a remote area of santa barbara county. at times, the 101 freeway shut down. the window of progress is closing. >> we expect to have some seesawing we expect r ekthll see, if notsu will see fire crews out there putting out hotspots. alex: on monday and tuesday, the flames of the fire exploded. wind gusts were up to 70 miles per hour, embers jumping a mile ahead of the flame front, creating spot fires. flames pushing toward the ocean. because of the wind, the biggest asset firefighters have, could not fly. >> normally with a fire like

this, you are used to seeing dozens of air tankers and helicopters flying around, making their attack. they are poised and ready to do so every time the wind lets up. alex: but on friday, the concern will not just be santa barbara, it will be throughout california. firefighters are already exhausted. >> i had the opportunity to see some really, really tired folks on the line. alex: with the strong santa ana winds blowing, humidity levels around 8% --and a red flag warning, extreme fire behavior will be likely. the wind returns as this man watches firefighters try to save his ranch. >> hope he makes alex: one silver lining, by sunday, the winds are expected to come in from the ocean and bring some clouds and even drizzle. drizzle. alex stone, abc news. kristen: oakland health officials are trying to help residents breathe better during wildfire season.

campaign out of which focuses on affordable housing construction. the housing they toured was an old college dorm now transformed into a place to house those in need. fudge says it is an example of what she would like to see happen in other places in the bay area. >> we are talking about vouchers how we do things like tiny houses and container houses. we are looking at every possible option. tim: while building and economic development are longer-term strategies, they are also working on providing more short-term relief. some of that includes more public-private partnership between the government and property developers, creating more options and less wait times. >> how we can expedite the process and cut through the red tape and the bureaucracy, and make it happen. tim: because despite all housing problems, fudge says the solutions being implemented here in the bay area are leading the

money. larry: aright, the force is strong. a team of star wars enthusiasts build a life-size replica of luke skywalker's fighter. the crew of six siberian cosplayers it on instagram. looks more a lot more elaborate than that. unfortunately, it doesn't have the capability to take anybody to a galaxy far, far away. earlier this year the crew went viral from building a replica of the razor crest gunship from "the mandalorian." these guys are all in. they are not messing around. spencer: it looks authentic. dan: they have done a great job. i don't think it will take you around the block, much less a galaxy far far away, but really cool. spencer: it's a lot of work. kristen: i think they just put out a good demo tape for when they need to hire people for the next star wars movie. they can be the set designers.

absolutely right. it is funny, dunkin'on the east coast is really known for the coffee. on the west coast, it is part of the name we changed our name from dunkin' donuts to dunkin'. we sell more coffee than doughnuts. we have regulars who come in every day. dan: on the east coast it is famous for the coffee, dunkin'. matt: yes. larry: i spent six years back east and the dunkin'kept me alive, ok? larry: just in time for halloween, a really scary story. and owner of a sonoma county whom found more than a few rattlesnakes living inside her house. in fact, nearly 100 were found. reporter cornell barnard spoke to the brave men who had the job of evicting those snakes. cornell fis: loves his job despite the risks. you ever get bitten? >> 13 times. cornell fish he is a rattlesnake wrangler and director of the sonoma county reptile rescue. >> this is a rattlesnake.

i can tell by the length of his tail. cornell fish he has been removing rattlesnakes from properties for over 30 years. he thought he had seen everything until easily when a homeowner called after spotting a snake going underneath her mountainside home. this trip called for the labs. >> they are snake gloves so this makes can't bite through them. because at this point they are dangerous. they are not even there a minute before i find my first rattlesnake. cornell: the count multiplied, reaching 50 and higher. >> 92 rattlesnakes underneath her house. i was tickled pink. i wish that happened everyday to me. cornell: he needed a bigger bucket to remove all the baby rattlesnakes found inside that house. >> nearly 100 rattlesnakes found in one location. almost unheard of and, now says the drought has a lot to do with it. by the way, don't try this at home. >> the drought will cause
