to the hospital, and they did a routine checkup in the emergency department, and they identified an infection of his blood. they're also telling us that he probably likely had a urinary tract infection that caused the infection to go to the blood. >> reporter: according to the hospital, clinton was given an iv and is responding well to antibiotics. it's the latest health scare for the 75-year-old since leaving office. he had quadruple bypass surgery in 2004 and a pair of stents implanted in 2010. >> sepsis can be a serious matter. we are concerned about a decrease in blood pressure and we also need to monitor the heart. president clinton is about to be transitioned to oral antibiotics. it is less likely that the infection has affected his heart because in that case, you would be on antibiotics for six weeks through the iv line. >> reporter: in the past the former president has attributed his health problems to a bad diet, a busy work schedule and ignoring warning signs. >> since i left the white house, maybe if i had stayed on a lower

fat diet, you konw, maybe if i had not eaten so many hamburgers and steaks, you know, which i love, maybe if i had slightly less stress in my life and worked as hard as i did since i left office, maybe it would have been different. >> doctors say they hope to discharge clinton soon, maybe as early as today. now the investigation into january's attack on the u.s. capitol. former trump aide steve bannon is refusing to comply with a subpoena, so now the committee investigating the riot is fighting back threatening to hold him in contempt. this dispute could have major implications for the entire investigation moving forward. this morning, the congressional committee investigating the january 6th attack at the capitol is now pursuing criminal charges against steve bannon after the former white house aide defied their subpoena. the panel's chairman, congressman bennie thompson, saying the select committee will use every tool at its disposal to get the information it seeks. >> we're left with no other choice than to ask the justice
