good evening, and thank you for joining us. i'm dion lim. you are watching abc 7 news at 11 live here on abc 7 and wherever you stream, let's get to abc 7 news meteorologist drew tuma now tracking that rain and what a difference true. yeah. i mean today dion i felt like summer out there temperatures in the 70s and in the 80s, but dust off your umbrellas tomorrow is a much different. not only rain but cooler temperatures live doppler 7 along with satellite a cold front is going to move into california, especially tomorrow afternoon evening and bring us that chance of some wet weather on the storm impact scale where dusting it off tonight tomorrow afternoon. we'll find scattered showers. we'll be breezy at times and we're talking about a tent to as much as a quarter of an inch of rainfall tomorrow morning 10 am. it's just a lot of cloud cover. we're starting out the day dry. it's into the afternoon. verse that rain arrives in the north bay by about two three o'clock by five six o'clock. the sun is setting that rain is arriving in san francisco in oakland and at night the rain will move into the south bay. we'll take a much closer look at the showers and the week ahead.

cruise at cal fires air attack c base in santa rosa we're watching the weather hoping for a break from see wildfire summer. it's looking really good. all the weather forecasting is looking really good. it should give us a little bit of reprieve the rain is welcome. but battalion chief glazer says fire season is far from over we need to remain vigilant and prepared for after the rain comes through it could rain solids through the week. i'd be happy john hackenberg came to garrett ace hardware in windsor with hopes of saving every drop of rain. going to be used to capture rainwater off of a shed roof into a rain barrel so that we can use that water for watering the garden. this store was busy with people ready to weatherproof. and then this is just for firewood to keep it dry. don't forget the sand bags. remember these it's still the best way to keep water away from your house. we put rain boots for people.

300 people were told to evacuate cal fire canceled another controlled burn planned today for pescadero. a large rally took place today over the fatal shooting of an oakland man by the fbi. you can seeyou can seeyou can sc outside oakland city hall as protesters marched enchanted jonathan cortez was shot and killed last month. as an fbi agent tried to serve a warrant investigators say cortez pulled a gun cortez's family believes they were being profiled and say an fbi agent showed up at the funeral. they are now demanding answers in an interview earlier this week with abc 7 news the fbi denied the allegation. a bay point man had pleaded guilty to sending threatening text messages during january 6th insurrection at the capitol prosecutors accused 36 year old robert lemke sending messages to the relative of a journalist

saying the journalist's words were putting the family at risk. they say he targeted dozens of people from shortly after the november election up until early january. lemke is scheduled to be sentenced in december is plea agreement recommends. he spend 15 to 21 months in jail. well children will be at the center of a nationwide protest on monday. statewide if organizers have their way calls or going out on social. yeah for parents to keep their kids home from school. it is their way to protest governor gavin newsom's recently announced covid vaccine mandate for california school children. abc 7 news reporter laura anthony has our story now from the east bay. the plan is to speak up by not showing up according to various social media posts by those organizing a campaign to keep their kids home from school on monday to protest governor gavin newsom's covid vaccine mandate. we know that if our children stay home from school.

that will impact you know, the funding that schools. day and we want them to know that we are serious about not being forced to vaccinate our children, california school children who attend in person will required to get the covid-19 vaccine once it's fully approved enforcement could begin as early as january, but not likely until july you typically, you know sign an agreement with the school with most public schools in any school district here in the united states that your child will be vaccinated and there's typically a list of vaccinations that you are immunizations slash vaccinations that you are required to have it disappoints me. that people are continuing not to take this that the vaccine seriously, i think as a parent you're number one responsibility is to make sure that your child is in a safe school setting please realize that this vaccine is not as slam dunk. you can still get the disease you can still pass the disease.

at point 85% of residents have received at least one dose of a covid vaccine. it's a reality the governor credits with getting his state to the lowest seven-day case. in the country laura anthony abc 7 news on the peninsula san mateo county offered a little incentive to get people vaccinated abc 7 news was at bel air elementary school in san bruno where the first 30 people to get a dose received twenty five dollar target gift cards people could choose between pfizer or the johnson & johnson vaccine for their first or second dose visor boosters were also available. the pop-up event was held as the county works to vaccination rates among the latino population. i think it's important right especially in our latino community. there's a lot of stigma a lot of negative myths out there about covid but at the end of the day, this is the safest way. community can continue on growing and being healthy is by taking this covid-19 vaccine.

currently 67% of san mateo counties latino population is vaccinated well tonight thousands flocked downtown, san jose for the sharks season opener game abc 7 news reporter luz pena spoke to fans and city officials about the return of major sporting event and how it's helping the economy. it's opening day for the san jose sharks and over 17,000 fans from across the bay area had been waiting for this we have to bring it's been a year and a half. i bought these right before we closed down so i never got to wear them. we used to go to sharks games beforehand and it's great. this is our first one back and we're ready to turn for the strikes tonight. this is the first time since any where there is no capacity limit at the sap center. only requirements fans need to be fully vaccinated or show proof of a recent negative covid test feel safer that everyone's vaccinating the several blocks away.

is struggling with a spiking gang related. nappings details about the missionaries are not yet known but sources have confirmed the incident to the associated press and to the new york times. employees of an animal farm pet hospital in san francisco were shocked to find two cars crashed into their building at about 8 o'clock this morning officers responded to the scene on mission street. the cause of the collision is still under investigation one person was transported to the hospital. caution no animals were hurt. the clinic is being forced to cancel a number of appointments because of the damage. so i mean like it's a very unfortunate event that happened, but we would do our best to get it taken care and will be open for business for all times pretty soon. the clinic plans to serve as many clients as possible while repairs are underway. to the east bay where dozens of dogs were rescued from a property in danville yesterday contra costa animal services posted these images of some of the res.

pups they say 72-75 dogs were found on a property where there was hoarding activity. there were also 25 cats most of the animals were rescued. but at least six had to be put down due to their medical condition crews were back at the site today checking out the remaining animals. convicted murderer robert durst is in the hospital tonight with covid according to his lawyer. durst was sentenced earlier this week in los angeles two life in prison without parole for killing. long time french susan berman his lawyer said he was very sick in the courtroom prosecutors in new york have indicated. they do plan to file charges against durst for the disappearance of his wife. was accused and convicted of killing burman to cover up the crime. nurse lawyer says he is going to appeal. a tribute now stands at the national aids memorial grove in golden gate park in memory of the first person to be cured of hiv. a memorial boulder was dedicated today to timothy ray brown.

he was initially known as the berlin patient. 13 years ago he underwent an experimental stem cell transplant in berlin germany from a donor who was immune to hiv. doctors say it was a success and today brown's partner attended the dedication. it's just a loving tribute to timothy. was a very sweet and person that wanted everybody to be cured. brown became an international ray of hope and an advocate for hiv and cancer research. he died last year at the age of 54 of leukemia at his home in palm springs. a new deal has been agreed on by tv and film production workers. hollywood avoiding what would have been a nationwide strike? new three-year contract still needs to be ratified by the union 60,000 members though the international alliance of theatrical stage employees union. president says it addresses core

issues including the livable wage meal breaks and larger contributions to health and pension benefits. the strike would have been the first in the unions 128 year history. well, if you love tech then this is a big week for you. some of the world's largest tech companies will be hosting virtual events to showcase new products all of it begins on monday with apple hosting their unleashed event as it's called where a new generation of macbooks and airpods are expected to be introduced on tuesday. google will unveil their new pixel smartphone and on wednesday samsung's unpacked part 2 event will showcase how the company is opening up new experiences for self-expression through technology. all right once again. abc 7 news meteorologist drew tuma joining us with some pretty big changes in the forecast. yeah, dion a very unsettled next seven days that we're looking at. we're just entering storm season. so the storms we are tracking this week are on the lighter side, but i think we all really do have a chance to see a return of some raindrops to our cities.

let's take a look outside today. i mean, what a gorgeous day. we had earlier lots of sunshine tonight. it's equally as calm clear skies from sutro tower right now. we all made it into the 80s today. i felt like summer out. made it to 81 in the city 82 in oakland 87 in san jose tomorrow. it's gonna be much different 15 to 20 degrees cooler thing a lot more like autumn to finish out the weekend tomorrow right now. we're a 62 in the city down to 57 in oakland after that high of 82 earlier today 67 in san jose 53 right now in santa rosa 62 that current temperature in brentwood. night tonight we'll find clear skies early on clouds will be on the after midnight tonight, we'll turn mostly cloudy first thing tomorrow morning, but still some cooler spots first thing in the north bay from napa to santa rosa in the 40s low to mid 50s around the bay shoreline as we start our sunday live doppler 7 along with satellite here you that storm just beginning to move into the pacific northwest the heaviest

of the rain will be pointed at portland seattle vancouver what we are going to get here in northern california. is this cold front that will swing through here tomorrow afternoon. we'll bring in the storm impact scale if you've forgotten here at abc 7. we rank our storms from one to five light to severe gives you better idea of what to expect and with these first storms of the season they tend to be on the light. and that's what we're finding tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening with scattered showers. it is breezy and most areas less than about a tenth of an inch of rainfall tomorrow morning. we'll start the clock 11 am it's cloudy or mainly dry the showers first move into the north bay around two three o'clock in the afternoon. we're still pretty dry south of the golden gate by about four or five pm we do. showers in the city beginning to move into the east bay the south bay is still dry. it's after sunset at night the showers move into the south bay very light and scattered in nature or already beginning to dry out in the north bay and the storm system is pretty much out of here by the end of the day on sunday rainfall estimates again,
