a cold front is several hours away. it will be impacting the bay area with a pet or change today. -- with a pattern change today. it is in the 50's in union city and hayward. temperatures are as warm as 60 and as cool as 39 in santa rosa. level 1 system coming in at 3:00 to 4:00 in the north bay, live look outside where we will have partly to mostly cloudy skies through the bulk of the day. by 4:00, we have a few showers along the coastal hills. they will be sinking south. looking at the shower chances, later in the east bay and southbay. we have several chances of rain coming up this week. we will talk about it coming up. >> many in the bay area are ready to greet the first rains of the season with open arms. fire crews hope the precipitation comes and gives them a break from fighting the

wildfires. our reporter shows us how residence in the north bay are getting ready. reporter: it is a sunny day for pickle ball in nevada. rain is coming. these players say bring it on. >> the rain will not deter these people. reporter: our dry weather pattern is changing. >> there are opportunities to see more rain. reporter: it could bring some relief for our epic drought. dry grass is everywhere, and so is the threat of fire. sky seven was over this wildfire monday night that burned acres.. crews were watching the weather hoping for a break from a busy wildfire summer. >> it is looking really good. all the weather forecasting is looking really good. it should give us a little reprieve. reporter: the rain is welcome.

fire season is far from over. >> we need to remain vigilant and prepare for after the rain comes through. it could rain solid through the week. i would be happy. reporter: john came to ace hardware in windsor with hopes of saving every drop of rain. >> it is going to catch rainwater so we can use that water for the garden. reporter: this story was busy with people ready to weatherproof. don't forget the sandbags. remember these, still the best way to keep water away from your house. the store supervisor says the shelves are stocked and storm ready. >> just trying to get prepared with what customers will need. reporter: in case you forgot, this is what rain looks like. we cannot wait to see it again for real.

in the north bay, abc 7 news. >> we may have forgotten. it has been so long. you can always check abc 7 doppler on our abc 7 news app. the evacuation order for a wildfire has been downgraded, allowing people in santa cruz county to return home. the estrada fire has burned over 138 acres. crews when some of the embers jumped the containment line and started another fire. it is northeast of carlito's. nearly 300 people were told to evacuate. calfire canceled another controlled burn yesterday. the family of an oakland man shot and killed by the fbi are demanding answers. >> jonathan cortez. >> protesters marched and

chanted outside oakland city hall yesterday. he was shot and killed last serve a warrant. the agent said he pulled a gun. the family said an fbi agent showed up at the funeral. they are demanding answers. the fbi denied the allegations. children will be at the center of a statewide protest tomorrow. calls are going out on social media for parents to keep their kids home from school to protest governor newsom's covid vaccine mandate for california schoolchildren. we have the story from the east bay. reporter: the plan is to speak up by not showing up. according to various social media posts by those organizing a campaign to keep kids home from school on monday to protest governor newsom's covid-19 vaccine mandate. >> we know if our children stay home from school, that will impact the funding that schools

get for that day. we want them to know that we are serious about not being forced to vaccinate our children. reporter: california schoolchildren who attend in person will be required to get the covid-19 vaccine once it is fully approved. enforcement could begin as early as january. >> would typically sign an agreement with most public schools that your child will be vaccinated. there is typically a list of vaccinations or immunizations that you are required to have. >> it disappoints me that people are continuing not to take this vaccine seriously. as a parent, your number one responsibility is to make sure your child is in a safe school setting. >> realize that this vaccine is not a slamdunk. you can still get the disease. you can still pass the disease. reporter: 85% of residents have

received at least one dose of a covid vaccine. it is a reality the governor credits with getting his state to the lowest seven-day case rate in the country. >> on the the t county offered an incentive to get people vaccinated. e t to doses received $25 target gift cards. pfizer boosters were also available. the county says it is working to increase vaccination rates among the latino population. >> i think it is important in our latino community. there is a lot of stigma out there about covid. at the end of the day, this is the safest way that our community can continue growing and being healthy by taking this vaccine. >> currently 67% of san mateo's county -- san mateo counties latino population is vaccinated.

news. as always, we will start with a look at the weather. let's g b right now, we have offshore. it is milder out there. the breeze has switched to the south-southwest in advance of this cold front. we are looking at breezy winds and temperatures not as cold. 50's downtown. 59 san jose. santa rosa 39. those wind chill areas certainly chilly. right above half moon bay mile-per-hour wind gusts. the atmosphere is still super dry. we are welcoming this weak system later today. temperatures will be slow to warm today. it is going to be breezy and cool and dry for the first half of the day. there is rain in sonoma county. 5:00 along the peninsula and into the south. we will track the other chances

for rain in the week ahead in a few minutes. >> covid-19 cases are down. millions of americans remain unvaccinated. numerous cities and employers have issued mandates, but many people are resisting the requirement. christine sloan has the details. >> as covid case numbers continue to fall nationally, more vaccine requirements continue to go into effect. not everyone is willing to roll up their sleeves. in chicago, a court battle is heating up between the city and police force, about half of which is unvaccinated. >> we have seen from the fraternal order of police, a lot of misinformation, flat out lies in order to induce insurrection. >> the city announcing those who do not get vaccinated will be placed on no pay status. in seattle, the police department is making

preparations ahead of a monday deadline for all officers to provide proof of vaccination. the concern that the department may lose hundreds of officers who are choosing not to get vaccinated. in everett, washington, 200 boeing employees staged a protest against the company's vaccine mandate. mask rules are now loosened in san francisco. masks no longer required in some environments if everyone is fully vaccinated and there are not more than 100 people. >> it is a nice feeling that the city decides it is safe for us to take our masks off. >> this week, acc panel will meet on recommendations for moderna and johnson & johnson boosters. if authorized, the boosters could be out at the end of the week. >> coming up on this anthony fauci will talk about mixing and matching vaccines.
