will be a series of rainmakers. thanks so much for joining us. i'm dion limb that rain is moving through the bay area as we speak abc 7 news meteorologist. francis takes a look at how long those showers will last francis. yeah dion they're going to last for the next few hours until about 9 o'clock in the bay area and then we'll start to clear out on our storm impact scale. it's a one out of five. it's a light storm scattered showers expected over the next few hours generally less than a tenth of an inch for most areas, but maybe up to a quarter or more especially in the mountains and along the coast breezy at times as well. here's a look at the live doppler satellite radar system. so you notice over the last few hours. the rain is mainly fallen in the north bay, but it is starting to slide south and east right now. in fact, we're getting some light rain falling through santa rosa. luma already got about 400 of an inch just in the past hour. so and here's our forecast animation at six o'clock. you'll notice the rain starts to move on to the peninsula parts to the east bay 7 o'clock this evening continues into the east

in petaluma home to 8,000 rose bushes and hundreds of varieties, and they all need lots of water now that i know there's gonna be days of rain just super excited to get out there and so some seeds jessica says the drought has made growing roses. be tough, but the promise of rain brings. hope for the season the rain is super important just to create a nice water table and to help the roses get through the really cold periods. we put out the rain boots for people to come in this weekend. we found a lot of people at this ace hardware store in windsor getting storm ready. it's gonna be used to capture rainwater off of a shed roof into a rain barrel so that we can use that water for watering the garden a little bit of extra space. ski department at sports basement in berkeley was helping customers gear up for tahoe or snow was in the forecast i guess. it is sun up to. the first rain storm down here

everybody starts thinking about skiing again gets excited is coming in looking for new gear the tahoe regionrecoring f the r kaldore fire which burned more than 200,000 acres last month locals say several chances for snow. this week is great news. one of the driest summers in tahoe history, so with the shot of the rain that's been falling here for about two hours. it has certainly been a while since we have seen it firefighters say it means a possible reprieve from fighting wildfires, but they stress that why the fire season is certainly far from over great to see the rain. we will take every drop. we're live in petaluma cornell bernard abc 7 news. yeah, you definitely have that right cornell many. thanks now as the showers move into the bay area. we wanted to take closer look at a rain deficit. once again meteorologist francis deglassen joins us to explain how our rain totals are.

so low every little bit matters. yes deon, we could use every drop in fact our rainfall deficit for last season in santa rosa. we were almost below by 21 inches san francisco almost 14 inches, and you see even your 10 inches in oakland and in livermore, so well below normal last season now for california. here's our drought monitor. most of california is in the exceptional to extreme category about 87% and for the bay area. it's basically of us in the exceptional and also the extreme category what's great is we're expecting rain today to continue through this evening tapering off but this week we're opening up a wet weather pattern so we have periods of rain through the seven day forecast and that is great news for us because we could use every drop we might have a heavier system into this weekend and we might even end the month of october for this new rain season near normal all right.

thanks francis, and you can always check live doppler 7 and the weather conditions where you live on our abc 7 news app it is free to download just search abc 7 news bay area to developing news now cruise battling a wildfire in santa cruz county are starting to get the upper hand cal fire says the estrada fire did not grow overnight and containment is now at 60% that is nearly double from yesterday all evacuation orders and warnings were lifted today 14. acre so far have burned a burn north of watsonville at estrada ranch sparked this wildfire on friday the santa cruz sentinel reports that the burn was on a retired cal fire battalion chief's property. in the north bay a prescribed burn is scheduled to start tomorrow in sonoma county cal fire today said it'll happen west of magic mountain road near cazadero highway smoke will be visible in much of sonoma county. the fire will help maintain a fuel break designed to stop or

slow future wildfires. that burn is set for 7 am to 9pm pm on monday and tuesday. in the east bay a tribute to mark the 30th anniversary of the oakland hills firestorm the north hills community. association hosted a picnic to celebrate the people who keep oakland safe and to honor those who lost their lives in 1991 that fire killed 25 people making it the third deadliest wildfire in california history it burned more than 1,500 acres and destroyed 3,000 structures oakland's fire chief lives in one of the areas hit hardest by the blaze to prove that not only is it important to me and my family but to the members open fire department of their chief lives in hitler highlands as a reminder what is at stake. organizers handed out information on how to prepare for and stay safe during emergencies. fire storm the east bay hills fire is the latest 7 original production.

then by 8 o'clock this evening. the rain will be in the valleys and down through the south bay and then by midnight most of us will be clear and dry making for some very chilly conditions overnight into tomorrow morning rainfall estimates for the most part near 10th of an inch all around the bay maybe 900 of an inch in oakland and then we could get more rainfall near the coast like half moon bay near a quarter and also in the higher elevations clear lake at near a quarter of an inch as well and with the system moving. east after it passes through the bay area. it's also going to bring snow to the sierra. so there's a winter weather advisory it at 8 o'clock tonight through 5 am tomorrow avoid driving during that time if you can because areas above. feet could get to date inches of snow maybe even close to a foot in some spots and there will likely be some travel delays temperatures right now are mostly in the 50s and you'll notice it was a drastic change from yesterday. we went from summer weather to this brisk fall like feeling

today. they drop by near 30 degrees in some spots in fact like that in ukiah and anywhere from 20 degrees to 15 degrees cooler in many parts of the bay area as a system moves through we all start getting breezy and gusty questions right now winds at sfo 26 miles per hour as well as fairfield and san francisco and novato 17 miles per hour. so the lows tonight will be quite chilly. make sure the kids bundle up for school tomorrow morning, especially in the north bay. only upper 30s through santa rosa lakeport low 50s for almost everyone around the bay area and at the beaches in the coast upper 40s, and tomorrow's highs will be about 10 degrees cooler than average so similar to days numbers most everybody in the 60 san francisco 61 oakland 63 san jose 64 santa rosa 66 degrees here is the accuweather 7-day forecast. so once the rain passes through we'll have a chilly start but mostly sunny tomorrow then

we'll see the consistency that we can have going on. i think that'll be the challenge for all of us. well in just two days the warriors tip off their 75th season golden state opens tuesday night in la against the lakers venice the home opener thursday night against the clippers at chase center. stephan curry seems to be getting better and better. that's a scary thought for the rest of the league. like to see the warriors shoot plenty of threes they can do that as well golden state hit 16 from downtown and fridays preseason finale the warriors did finish the preseason a perfect 5-0 and after losing the nba's inaugural play in tournament last season their sights are set on making a deep run in the playoffs this season. our expectations are definitely higher this year than they have been the last couple years and the way the league works, you know, you kind of need to step it up everybody in the locker room wants to win the championship first and foremost. whatever that takes, so we're just trying to be as prepared as possible with all these pieces we have i definitely think we're a championship caliber team good mix of guys and i feel like we can be really good defensively
