flooding. we start with meteorologist drew tuma, he is tracking the midi -- radar on what has been historic day. >> so much rain in such a short amount of time. we are teetering on one of the top five what is days reported in san francisco. more than a foot of rain in parts of marion county. live doppler 7 showing you we are tracking the back edge of this atmospheric river now moving through parts of marin county, parts of sonoma. here's that begich right here. that's the end of that heaviest rain. we are dealing with heaviest rain around the miller valley and napa. the city of san francisco, some pockets of heavy array. those pops of yellow in oakland as well. a similar story from walnut creek to concord. antioch dealing with cap your showers, as this atmospheric river continues to move through.

and we're tracking light to moderate rain at this hour. still have some issues in the north bay. flood warnings are up around sebastopol, petaluma, and sonoma. we've seen a lot of rain, so our roads are flooded and our streets and creeks are overflowing. a flood advisory for the city. parts of contra costa and alameda county, because we have seen a lot of water on our roadways. on a storm impact scale, it is a level for major storm tonight at least for the next three to four hours, future weather? tomorrow morning, 7:00 a.m., your morning commute does not feature heavy rain, but will likely see some affects of this rain still in the next 24 hours. we will talk about ponding on the roadways. >> the san anselmo creek rose quickly today. and actually started spilling over in some spots, leading to blood sirens being sounded. the creek looked more like the

rabbits. we saw flooding in san raphael and kentfield. marin county received well over a foot of rain. going out to reporter luz pena in sausalito, where the city has declared a local emergency tonight. >> we've been covering the impact of the storm throughout marion county, with flooded businesses, homes, and neighborhoods. now we are in sausalito where there are hundreds of residents without power. many residents were caught off guard. over eight inches of rain in matter of hours college residents off guard. >> i'm like 10 feet above sea level here. >> help ed to get here? -- how bad did it get here? >> it was taller than this camp. you can see the watermark, where it stopped. >> andrew was ready to evacuate

after seeing woodland avenue flood. >> the higher ground right there, you see that? all that whole property is 20 to 30 feet above sea level. >> so your plan was to go across the street? >> not a big plan, but yes. >> this area flooded with over two feet of water. several businesses in downtown did not have time to react. the manager of a store said he had not seen a storm this big in 30 years. the water has not flooded this high before? >> never. >> it was a little flooded in here. and then the next thing you know, we just started pushing the water out and it seemed liked -- like it was just getting bigger, the drains were clogged. >> two miles north, san anselmo

residents braced for the worst as the greek overflowed. >> it was sort of like a flashlight. >> you are not anticipating the storm to get to this point? >> not this early in the day. >> a resident said it was necessary to close out their downtown area and sound up the flood warning. on 11-year-old saw the creek and knew what was coming. >> i told my parents, it's not a flood. they were like no, it is not. and i was like, but the sandbags out. they don't listen to me. >> by that time his parents checked, they noticed two feet of water in the garage. >> do your parents listen to you now? >> yeah. >> but the storm is far from over. >> i'm concerned about our hillsides, and the amount of rain. it's going to be a sleepless night for our town staff, our first responders. many, if not all of our residents as well. >> sausalito is under a local

emergency order, and saw a water main rate and downed power lines. as you can see, it is still coming down hard. live in sausalito, luz peña, abc 7 news. >> all that rain in marin county proved too much for this tray. in woodacre, you can see the large oak topple over onto a home. the damage was severe, two bedrooms were destroyed. residents had to find somewhere else to stay for the night. the ground is completely saturated in that area of marin county. in fairfax they have gotten more than nine inches of rain from the storm. several trees came down in san francisco today. this is video from sydney walton square on front street in the financial district. trees also came down in the cole valley neighborhood.

we saw fire crews cutting up one of those trees in belvidere street and parnassus avenue. one block away another tree came down on top of a car. these were just a few of the downed tree calls for san francisco fire. flooding remains one of the biggest problems as the rain keeps on coming down. this is what it looked like earlier. contra costa county off interstate 80. streets look like a river, and drivers got stuck in it. in millbrae, a lane has flooded and there is a lot of standing water. that's where our reporter tim johns is, tim. >> yeah, jr. in millbrae, the water is currently up to about my ankles. several hours ago, it was up to my shins. earlier in the day, it was knee-deep residents tell me. for people living on the street, the past 24 hours have not been easy. >> my whole garage is up to my

kneecaps. >> everything is floating around. >> this house for decades, that was a result of the storm slamming the bay area. it is facing flood damage. >> the fire department came out, they told me they couldn't do anything about it because it was high tide. and the city's pumps were doing no good. >> flooding across multiple neighborhoods but downed trees caused evacuations out of several homes with many two comfort rate -- >> there is a tree into a house just three blocks from here. -- >> electrical outages have been widespread. pg&e is working around-the-clock. >> is -- our crews will be out there in full force.

-- >> for the residents of the street, stein says he wants local authorities to work on improving drainage to make sure this doesn't happen again. >> i don't want them to continue spending our taxpayer money, and then they are going to go plant plants and do things on the upper area. they should focus on things that are unexpected. >> and jr, that really does say it all. residents tell me they don't know what they will do next. we are going to write for the -- wait for the floodwater to receipt. in millbrae, tim johns, abc 7 news. >> several sonoma schools will be closed tomorrow, meaning know in person classes or virtual learning. bennett valley union and current bill school districts will be closed because of the flooding. montgomery school in because it arrow will be closed because of the power outages and roof

leaks. fire crews in cloverdale had to rescue several homeless people stranded in the middle of the russian river this morning. the group was camping in a section of dryland in the middle of the river. they were able to get there because the water level had dropped so much during the drought. the water rose quickly. they were surrounded by that rising water a short time after it started raining. firefighters were able to get the four people and their dog out. >> all of this comes so fast, there was no hope. it was fast like you were not believe, man. >> fortunately, they got up. the group said they had ignored warnings to leave the area, as that storm approached. the north was hit particularly hard by this storm. and it's causing flooding in one santa rosa neighborhood. residents were evacuated, and the order was lifted before 7:00 this evening.

damaged homes are going to be inspected by the city. reporter ryan curry caught up with some of the evacuees. >> northbay residents are feeling the harsh impacts. >> we've got kids in our house -- kits that are ready to go if needed. >> matt has lived on the street for eight years, he says it has never been this flooded. >> it's been dry the last four or five years, what we've seen some pretty big storms but nothing like this at all. >> he says the water started flowing high on the street early in the afternoon. as it started rising, authorities helped many of his neighbors leave their homes. >> my neighbors got out an hour ago. we have friends down here that i'm hoping they're not going to suffer too much from water in their home. >> the street is right near a creek bed. other residents say the water level started rising rapidly. many parts of the street flooded. >> the flood markers are at

around nine feet. it was pretty high. >> it's moving so fast down hit -- there that it's moving this rock. >> but it is not just santa rosa. many parts of the northbay are feeling the effects of the storm. crews in sebastopol are fixing downed power lines. ivan lopez and his family are laying out sand to prevent flooding from getting into his home. >> we're trying to prevent water from coming into our property. we are using sandbags, trying to get the natural drain storm at that. >> he says he's street doesn't have the best sewers. and he doesn't want to take any chances. >> we woke up, it was about 4:30. we got some equipment and tried to get this thing done. >> neighbor said they were unsure it would -- how long it would take for their evacuated neighbors to return. they told me most people on the street have evacuation kits

hero faces seemingly impossible challenge. ♪ tension builds... ♪ the plot twist. ♪ the hero prevails. in hollywood, this would be the end. but our here, we are just getting started. introducing the all-new nissan frontier. >> welcome back. another look at live doppler 7. it has been let up all weekend, especially tonight as the strongest arm in ear slams the bay area. we're going to get another look at the forecast with meteorologist drew tuma in a few minutes. there have been a lot of problem sino santa cruz county, including this flooding in boulder creek. you can see water rushing down the roads in some of these shots. and the moment a tree and a power line came down around

2:00, it hit a car. no one was hurt. the driver says he feels lucky to have escaped any injury after a tree fell on his car as he was driving on a road in belton this afternoon. we will check out the scene in south san francisco in market neighborhood, scaffolding collapsed. no injuries were reported. the corner of ninth and, streets. the area is now blocked up with caution tape. a massive rockslide about 45 minutes north of doraville has shut down highway 70 in both directions. this happened near tobin in plumas county. you can see water pouring down the hill where giant boulders collapsed onto the road, and clearing the mess could take several days. those are some very big rocks. the storm is almost out of the bay area, that means it's already dumping rain and snow in the sierra. these are some of the nighttime

views of north tahoe. you can see rain falling along interstate 80 and truckee. a winter storm warning is in effect for areas above 6000 feet about -- until tomorrow night. wind gusts could reach 100 miles an hour on some of the ridges. meteorologist drew tuma is now here with weather. rain one minute, snow the next. >> what a day today. it was the wind, it was the rain. we saw several inches of rainfall. and we are going to see record totals once this day is wrapped up in about 40 minutes. live doppler 7 right now. we have some encouraging news in the northbay. you can see that back edge of our atmospheric river, it is beginning to move out of the northbay. we've seen almost six to nine inches across the northbay. heavy rain still across the central part of the bay and even into the south bay. we are watching thunderstorms that have developed live doppler

7 in up lightning strikes in mendocino. we do anticipate thunderstorms to stay out of our neck of the woods. live doppler 7 now, still a lot of rainfall to go through. these pops of yellow and orange through san francisco, the east bay as well. zooming out of her san francisco, some heavy rain. even in oakland. it's just been raining nonstop the last 24 hours. we're going to see the back edge of this atmospheric river moved to the city and that east bay within the next hour or so, then it moves to the south bay within the next four to five hours. here's the bigger picture. you can see our atmospheric river is just aim right at the bay area with that heavy rain and those strong, gusty winds earlier this afternoon. look at these rainfall totals over the past 24 hours. more than a foot of rain in kentfield. to almost nine ages -- young fella.

-- young fellow. more than six inches of rainfall in danville. south along the peninsula, to palo alto, the south bay closing in on an inch. the winds have backed off or they were gusting 30 to 60 miles per hour this afternoon. they have calm down, and will remain light overnight tonight. we are mainly in the 50's, and will stay here through the overnight hours. on the storm impact scale, still a level four storm tonight, at least the next four hours. by 3:00 a.m., the storm should be out of here. we still have several hours of the south bay to get through with that heavy rain. roads are flooded, and we still have power outages. 1:00 a.m., scattered showers in the northbay, heavier pockets of rain in the south bay. by 4:00 a.m., the heaviest of the wet weather is out of here. it is tapering to scattered showers. by 7 a.m., we are seeing partly

sunny skies. just an isolated shower here or there. additional rainfall on top of what we've already seen. probably at 10th to 2/10 of an inch. the heaviest has really moved out to the south and east. we're just talking about residual rainfall tomorrow morning. for the commute, use caution. the heaviest rain is out of here, but we will likely have a lot of standing water on our roadways and some debris. give yourself some extra time, extra distance between the cars around you. we will likely see a longer than normal commute on a monday. high surf warning begins tonight, lasting through tuesday morning. we are seeing waves -- 25 foot waves along our coast line. a winter storm warning is in effect until tomorrow night. about 6000 feet, six to 14 inches of snow, up to three feet in our highest peaks. our home temperature staying in the 50's.

the rain just keeps on falling. let's get another look at the weather with meteorologist drew tuma. >> we are in the final hours of the storm system. it is slowly exiting from north to south. let's take a look at the south bay. the radar showing you we've still got a lot of action on the screen. the north bay, significantly quieter than a few hours ago. still dealing with pockets of downpours in the south bay. we go down to the san jose foothills, some pockets of heavier rain with those pops of yellow. hercules, martinez, concord, antioch, we're seeing that yellow and even orange. that's heavier rain working through highway four. towards the pendency look, here is sfo, heavy rain over the airport in burlingame. still have some issues and i'm the north bay. flood warnings in effect for the early-morning hours for sebastopol, penn grove,

petaluma. a flood advisory for the city of san francisco, the peninsula, parts of contra costa and alameda, some smaller streams and creeks overflowing their banks. it is a level for major storm -- four major storm, and will hold at that level until two or 3:00 tomorrow morning. by 4:00 a.m., some scattered showers. by 8 a.m., it is all out of fear. we will take a look at the seven day forecast and show you some dryers guys in a few minutes. >> looking forward to that. the storm hit much of the bay area incredibly hard. we asked you earlier today to show it what it -- us what it look like in your neighborhood. many of you responded with a video of downed trees and high seas. >> well. -- >>woah.

>> there was excitement as pickup trucks plowed through flooded streets in santa rosa. not recommended, especially in martinez, where floodwaters could not stop the driver of this. . san rafael, a park was completely flooded. in santa rosa, this home nearly flooded. while powerlines came down in elsa brontë, and a fire was seen in san jose. perhaps the most intense video we received, besides this wild kite surfing video in half moon bay, came from the bay. a tied vote that -- boat captain reported this click. it comes from the san francisco bay. take a listen. intense moments from an angle you don't usually see. >> and thank you for sending all of those. flooding got so high in the

martinez concorde area, that it covered up the entire wheels of this vehicle, despite the danger. the flooding spread across several blocks of pacheco. the wiser -- flooding homes not far from the refinery. flooding in san anselmo caused concern as it rushed to downtown and flooded some streets this afternoon. you will hear flood sirens in the background. our anchor was there and saw police evacuating the downtown area. parts of san anselmo avenue was closed for a few hours but what has since reopened. corte madera, creeks were swollen from all this rain. this video was taken in ross up lagunitas road. the water was a few feet from overflowing and getting onto the roadway. here's a live look now at sfo.

the airport tells us there have been 63 cancellations, and 439 delays today. early this afternoon, winds were gusting close to 60 miles per hour. residents of one vallejo neighborhood had to shelter in place as the streets around them flooded. this is the corner of pepper and williams drive, near a small creek. combine that with clogged drains, and you get streets turned into giant pools. public works crews arrived to unclog the drains. but not before neighborhood kids , yeah, they have some fun splashing around. we are also following some significant news with covid vaccinations tonight. when the fda is expected to consider shots for children. and if approved, when those first shots could happen. >> live doppler 7 still track tk

>> welcome back to abc 7 news. this could be a significant week in the pandemic. boosters from all three vaccines are coming for all americans. the fda is set to meet and take up vaccinations for children five to 11 years old. our reporter with when youngsters could be getting shots. >> 28 million children may soon be eligible to get vaccinated against covid-19. with that key fda panel set to meet to review pfizer's new trial data, showing that at one third of the adult dose, its vaccine is 91% effective in kids ages i've to 11. -- five to 11. >> the data look good. >> it is expected expected exped

day. we are tracking the tail end of this farm. it is quieting down in the north bay, but we still have heavier showers along the peninsula and the south bay. this is moving to the south and east. by 1 a.m., the heaviest rain is in the south bay. 4:00 a.m., scattered showers out there. the atmospheric river is out of here, and by 7 a.m. we are waking up to partly cloudy skies and sunny conditions. we are mainly in the 50's as we head towards her monday afternoon. we could see isolated showers, but nonetheless the heaviest of the rain is really out of here the next couple of hours. scattered showers both monday and tuesday. then much drier, brighter midweek. next weekend looking a lot drier. >> thank you, drew. now with a preview of sports. >> the warriors get a lift off
