it has been a heck of a storm but we are picking up a narrow trail of showers across the bay from san rafael to san pablo to concord. what remains of the storm ranks only as a one on the impact scale. maybe a few more showers and a slight chance of thunder. tonight, it's going to be quiet. maybe spengler to. more showers will develop in the north they. let's get a look at storm totals and records. sandy: this was one memorable storm. take a look at the rainfall totals -- over five inches in san francisco. oakland was the fourth wettest. even in the rain shadow of the santa cruz mountains, san jose, close to two inches. concord just over three inches of rain. we still have some clouds there

and a couple of showers. daily rainfall records were set yesterday from santa rosa to napa with over five inches. going back to 2009 for san francisco, the record was 2.48, well above the daily r above the the day and an all-time record for santa rosa yesterday. the previous was set back in 2019, just over five inches. spencer will be back in a few and it's with a full look at the forecast. ama: live in san francisco were several trees fell during the storm. >> i have to confess i didn't leave my house until early this morning. i was surprised to see all the debris on my way to work but even more surprising was the number of fallen trees that affected every neighborhood in

san francisco. the saturated grated grated grad winds forced many trees to topple over in san francisco. according to the departmt workg branches and fallen trees were reported throughout the city. yesterday morning, the owner of this free us had a monterey cypress crash into the back of her car. a dtw spokesperson said she could file a claim with the attorney's office. >> as long as the ground is saturated, it's likely there will be trees falling in the next couple of days. let us know and our crews will get there. >> this was the trail of the city -- trees falling on storms and scaffolding collapsing. the botanical garden inside golden gate park was closed, deemed unsafe for the public. over the weekend and this morning, city crews cleaned out about 200 catch basins.

ama: abc 7 is committed to building a better bait area and one part areas of focus is racial social justice. we've reported on crimes targeting the asian-american community and new statistic from the fbi back this up. they went up 76% in 2020. 278 instances were reported last year compared to 100 58 in 2019. the fbi says black people were targeted in a majority of the hate crimes reported last year but the pandemic appears to have fueled an uptick in anti-asian hate crimes. two former san francisco district attorneys have joined a campaign to recall their old boss. melanie woodrow explains why they left office. >> organizers to campaign -- to recall chase aberdeen say they have more than enough signatures to create a recall election in june. they've added to former district

this has been the ever-changing conditions over the past 24 hours. it was closed due to rock slides . chain controls were lifted early this morning and my crew was already on the road heading up here when the roads began to wind out and chain controls were back in effect. this is the type of weather where you should be carrying chains. we are seeing seeing seeing seeg here, so check out this embankment. i'm five foot three and this is about two feet of snow. everyone who likes skiing and snowboarding is excited for their resorts to be open. i checked with the major resorts and they report more than two feet of snow, and some places more than three feet. the newly named palisade that tahoe more than three feet.

you can see the closed sign there -- they are still struggling after the caldor fire damaged a lot of the mountains. they are working every day to make sure the mountain is safe. they do know the west express will be closed and they are uncertain when they will reopen. are very happy. a lot of good with the bad as we are still in recovery after the caldor fire and this epic snowstorm. dan: thank you so much. our downpour here rot and iconic spot in yosemite roaring back to life. water is gushing into yosemite falls. just last week, it was lifted as dry on the national's website. here's a picture of the falls

announcer: bilding a better bay area -- moving forwards, finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. ama: the storm that hit the bay area continued to impact people's money. sky seven was live over millbrae avenue and you can see flooding impacting traffic. a couple of cars stranded in the water. a gas station and several other businesses in the area were affected by the flooding. dan: let's go to the east bay where there were a number of downed trees and power outages to contend with. leslie brinkley is live with the story. >> i am here at heather farm park and this is a the natural pond here many people know really overflowed yesterday. i have been told it is since back to normal and that's the case across much of the east bay today, getting back to normal.

nearly seven inches fell in moraga. debris flows were enormous. usually an early-season storm has lighter rain. even though crews were prepared, this monster storm overwhelmed them. >> the wind on top of the continuous storm brought on a lot of debris. a lot of tree limbs onto the road, plugging up the storm drains. >> crews worked tirelessly removing the debris and reopening flooded roads across the region. in concord, dangling lines were reported above the creek behind this hotel. cable and power companies had many calls for assistance. seem to take it seriously, the warnings about it. contra costa county and other minutes counties say they always have sandbags available. this time, they were wiped out

of their sand supply. the county said it was totally gone. people showed up over the weekend to get sandbags to protect their property and are in the process of replenishing their sand. dan: let's go to the north bay. marion county was hit hard by the storm. stephanie sierra explain how people there are recovering. >> heavy rain brought more than just high tide. the home nestled right next to a creek on 1st street in san rafael, the water puddling into the basement and the street turning into a river. >> yesterday it was a little river all the way down the street. it was absolutely incredible. >> dennis shea has lived in san rafael for years and says this was the worst he's seen. >> the flood we had in new year's eve 2005, that barely got

into my driveway. >> he says some driveways were submerged in more than two feet of water. a similar scene a couple of miles down the road. that downtown was bone dry over a week ago and was close to overflowing. >> around 5:00, we had the sirens going off and the police came by and said you have to evacuate. >> this is as high as it has been in quite a few years. >> the mayor is >> in recovery mode. >>everything is back up and running to speed. people are taking off the floodgates and the creek looks to be at a decent level. ama: let's take a look at the pg&e power outages hat. still a lot of customers without service. we just learned of an outage impacting people in central

am. because the peninsula and north were the hardest hit areas, the peninsula, we saw a lot to do to get our customers back up to power. ama: hopefully today, tonight, tomorrow? >> we have brought in cre cre san diego gas electric and other less hard-hit areas to help us restore the power in these hard-hit areas. we are going to be working around the clock until all of our customers have power. ama: at least we see the blue sky behind you. weather is cooperating today. >> there's multiple damage locations on one line, so if they fix one location, they have a couple of other locations where they need to fix equipment where they can re-energize the line. some areas we couldn't get into early this morning because it was flooded or access issues, we

are gaining access and seeing more damage to be repaired. that is what we are up against today. a lot of vegetation has come down, so we have a lot of vegetation management crews out there in all these locations. ama: any information for people who lost power before they start turning things back on? >> hopefully they are getting the outage alerts. however you signed up to let them know when the power is expected to come back on. once we inspect what caused the outage and what needs to be repaired and what was broken, then we have an estimated time we can restore power and let our customers know we are in the process of assessments and here's the time we expect your power to be on. we have customers getting those notifications and they are

making the proper precaution for when we will be getting power back on. ama: thank you for the update. dan: in the south bay, this is not a prank -- strong winds from yesterday's storms blue these across the parking lot. he season tailgaters looking along as the toilets slid across the pavement. you could think of this as a prelude of what was to come. that problem really stinks. spencer: all of mine have to be saved for late late -- late night tv. the effects of the storm are winding down but we have a high surf warning in effect for coastal areas. large breakers could reach 20 to 30 feet. bear that in mind if you are near the coastline.
