protection got up early for the long-awaited shot. neighbors kathy tran and adam king mitty morning of it, their kids ready for sleepovers and all the other activities they have missed during the pandemic. >> usually flu shots, she feels scared. today she is like, i'm so excited. >> they want to go to chucky cheese, we are planning to go to disneyland. >> now parents can take a sigh of relief and say that they are able to provide that same protective factor to their children. reporter: this is a pediatrician with kaiser in napa and solano counties, she is also a mom now looking forward to getting her six and eight-year-old daughters vaccinated. >> i would not advocate or recommend something for my own patients or for anyone else's patients that i would not do myself for my own children. reporter: kaiser northern california participated in the vaccine trials, now they plan to open vaccine appointments thursday in get shots in the alarms by monday, november 8.

we also spoke to a health officer today who plans to take his 11-year-old son to a vaccine clinic thishi schl. next month. lay:t we have all children five and up eligible for these vaccines, you wonder, will the kids, like we have to do, show proof of vaccination if they want to go to a restaurant or movie or theater, other events where local county rules prevail. reporter: absolutely, it is an interesting question that a lot of families are wondering about and yesterday, dr. susan fill with sft ph said proof of vaccination for the five to 11-year-old group would happen no suit or than eight weeks from now which takes us to the end of the year but she did say at some point, five to 11-year-olds will have to show some proof of vaccine to access some of those

about their child getting the vaccine, there are parents who have reservations. liz kreutz was in marin county today, she saw two sides of this issue, there are some parent to are opposed, also some parents working to make a shot a more positive experience for their children. reporter: at marin county's public health office today, preparations underway to begin vaccinating young children. kathy taylor works at ucf medical center and is the founder of ouchless er project, she and other moms have gathered donations to purchase colorful band-aids, these posters, anything to make the vaccination sites more kid friendly. >> we have 10,000 stickers. reporter: marin county has received 2700 doses of the pfizer vaccine for children ages five to 11, the first vaccination site will open this saturday at miller creek elementary school where they had this clinic earlier this year

for teenagers. the sides will then rotate to different public schools each weekend this month. the hope is that these decorations and distractions will make the shot less scary. >> when you put a little bit of something for them to look at or hold or bubbles to distract, the shot is nothing. reporter: not every parent sees it that way. in san rafael, a group of parents gathered and protested today, part of a walkout against vaccine mandates. >> i do not want our government playing possibly let with my child's life. >> i appreciate having the choice, but i don't appreciate being told that this is something i have to do. reporter: this protest as representative of how divisive these vaccines have become, while the parents here today did not want their children to get the covid shot, the county tells us their phones have been ringing off the hook with parents eager to get their kids the vaccine. >> there has been strong support from our parent community. reporter: can is the deputy

what better way with a place surrounded by water and to ensure there is actual ferry service? larry: starting january 1, there will be 17 roundtrips a day from treasure island to san francisco. kristen: as the holiday season approaches, the backup of cargo ships off the coast continues to impact the global supply chain. a california status emily and senate committee met to discuss solutions to the issue. that majority and backups are at the port of los angeles and port of long beach. the two largest ports in the nation. the port of oakland hopes the committee will redirect some of the ships there, which is currently operating at 50% capacity, to help alleviate congestion. >> this is not a competition. one of the solutions has to be to encourage our supply chain partners to utilize maximum capacity and alternate gateways. >> since march, the number of ships waiting to unload their cargo at the l.a. and long beach ports has doubled.

now thieves are targeting some of those shipping containers, they are interested in containers with high-end electronics and household goods according to the website cargo net, which tracks supply chain depths. california ports saw the most merchandise stolen followed by ports in texas and florida. long beach says its containers on property are safe, but there are reports criminals are the two containers once they leave the property on freight trains. larry: a robotic could hold the key to feeling some empty jobs. it is an ai powered french fry cook called flippy 2. miso robotics came up with this. flippy 1 makes burgers. flippy 2 saves kitchen space as well, it does need some human help, but critics feared automation like this could threaten jobs. as long as flippy 1 and

momentous of a day this is, let's take you back to january. >> me and my family had been careful. unfortunately, my mom picked it up on one of her trips down south. she came back, i gave her a hug, and there it was. reporter: while his parents would only see mild symptoms, davis's battle was not as easy. >> i thought it was a joke at first, but it showed me how real it is. reporter: with oxygen levels down to six to five, he was intimated and spent eight weeks in a coma with covid restrictions not allowing visitors, his parents were not sure if they would ever see their son again. >> there were a lot of days of just being honest, i do not think he was going to make it. >> i felt like i had survivors guilt. it was devastating. like people say, you don't think it is going to happen to you. reporter: audited.

sally would have the nurses put the phone up to his ear while he was in a coma or to speak to and pay for her son. when they could visit, she kept every single visitor pass, and now -- after a nine-month fight for his life, back home to his parents, siblings, and his dog, who stopped by his store every night he was in the hospital. >> hi! reporter: as he enters back through his stores again, he and his parents can't help but think about the journey it took to get here. >> it feels good ti have not ret it because i do not think we were going to get there. >> seeing him walk through those doors and come home is a blessed gift. >> i want to thank the staff and my family. it was another home.

occurring more frequently and having a huge negative impact on the economy and health of americans. dr. horn is a climate scientist at columbia university. >> i am disturbed by how quickly we are seeing the emergence of these unprecedented extreme weather events and seeing how large the impacts are. reporter: climate change can seem like an overwhelming problem, almost too big for an individual to make a difference. so what can you do? you can start in your own home. >> what temperature you set your thermostat to is important. also finding out if your utility offers a renewables program. at least some of your energy is coming from say solar or wind. reporter: heating and air conditioning account for almost half of the energy you using your home so ceiling drafts and improving their insulation can cut power use. you can also invest in led light bulbs and smart appliances. >> smart appliances always use less energy and over time, save money as well.
