get into the astroworld music festival in houston. according to newly obtained records from the houston fire department, there was chaos long before the gates even opened. this morning, a new look at the deadly astroworld music festival as officials describe minute by minute dealing with an out-of-control crowd long before the gates even opened. this new video shows fans rushing the barricades at the festival's entrance. similar scenes playing out as early as 9:20 a.m. according to handwritten logs obtained by our houston station ktkr. by 9:48, the first patient had been transported to a hospital, and just two minutes after the gates officially opened, a houston firefighter noting the the fences were breached and there was, quote, no control of participan participants. according to the logs those fences breached at least seven more times over the next several hours. fans crawling under fences wielding bolt cutters or using brute force to storm checkpoints. but it was just before travis

scott took the stage at 9:30 that night that firefighters ominously noted, quote, this is when it all got real. >> that crowd is super thick. if you go in there, this could turn into a rescue situation. >> reporter: over the next hour, dozens of fans were trampled or crushed as travis scott and drake performed with medics and good samaritans struggling to get help. overnight, a ninth victim dying from her injuries. 22-year-old texas a&m senior bharti shahani suffered multiple heart attacks after she was crushed and lost in the crowd according to family. overnight, travis scott and his team saying in a statement, they are, quote, actively exploring routes of connection with each and every family affected by the tragedy. scott also set up an email for families to reach out to him on their own time as prayers have going out for a 9-year-old boy who is right now in the hospital fighting for his life.

ezra blount was attending the concert with his dad, and officials say the crowd trampled him. the police chief this week said that he vowed to find the people and hold someone accountable for this tragedy and, michael, he said that this investigation could last months. >> thank you so much. coming up in our next half hour, travis scott's attorney is going to join us live, the first on "gma." whit. turning now to fears of a new covid surge, cases are climbing in nearly half the states across the country. our trevor ault is tracking the latest on the rise and the states pushing for all adults to get their booster shots. trevor, good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning, whit. we've said this how many times now but it's yet another wake-up call we have not yet put this pandemic to bed and just like last year this is a worrying seasonal rise in both cases and hospitalizations just as people and families are about to gather for the holidays. this morning, new covid cases are on the rise in nearly half the country with 22 states reporting a surge in infections and rising hospitalizations in 14 states, some already pushed to the brink.

>> our hospitals and icus are filling up with patients who are going on ventilators. >> reporter: health experts say this latest surge is fueled by unvaccinated americans' waning immunity from the vaccine and colder weather as more people gather indoors. >> people are starting to make plans for the holidays to get together, i think it's an important time just to let everyone know that we've got to stay vigilant. >> reporter: amid rapidly rising infection rates, officials in california joining colorado encouraging booster shots for all adults without waiting for cdc approval as grieving families of the unvaccinated urge others to protect themselves. >> covid is still here and get vaccinated and not risk having an outcome like we did for our family. >> reporter: and these alarming trends are popping up just as the number of new vaccine mandates are about to take hold including the one for federal workers, november 22nd, and president biden is steadfast

that mandates work. cecilia. >> thank you so much. we turn to skyrocketing prices across the country this morning. they are posing a new challenge for president biden. he's set to sign his bipartisan infrastructure bill on monday. but the inflation crisis is threatening his nearly $2 trillion spending plan, social spending plan with some in his own party questioning whether more spending will hurt americans' bottom line even more. our chief business correspondent rebecca jarvis has been tracking the latest, rebecca, you are following these numbers so closely. paychecks for millions of americans not expected to go as far as they have in the past. >> reporter: that's right, cecilia. and generally speaking, when you spend more money, you drive up prices more. now, moody's estimates that over the next two years, between 2022 and 2024, the infrastructure, climate spending and social spending bills will drive up inflation 0.3% but economists, cecilia, also believe that over the longer term, a lot of this spending on infrastructure will help ease the bottlenecks of

things that we've been seeing going wrong in our supply chain and will ultimately drive prices down over the longer term. cecilia. >> you have the holiday decorations behind you. the shopping is just around the corner if folks haven't started so how far will paychecks go when it comes to this holiday shopping given this inflation? >> reporter: i'm here in my secret garden, cecilia. if you take a look at where prices were this time last year for one of the most popular items on black friday, tvs, you would hve spent $500 for a tv. this year that same tv will cost you 550 with inflation, prices up there 10.4%. clothing prices up 4.3%, jewelry prices up 7.5% and furniture prices up more than 13%. one area where prices have come down are toys, down about half a percent as long as you don't get in on the frenzy and buy it on the resale market way jacked up. >> given the supply chain issues going on, thank you. we're going to turn now to the kyle rittenhouse murder

trial and defense resting their case. alex perez has the latest. >> reporter: this morning, kyle rittenhouse one step closer to learning his fate. >> we would rest. >> reporter: the defense resting their case thursday, but before that jurors seeing new images captured in the moments before the shooting, rittenhouse who argues self-defense is charged with killing joseph rosenbaum and anthony huber and injuring gaige grosskreutz with an ar-15. on the witness stand right-wing commentator drew hernandez who recorded the video. >> the first thing i did identify was that rosenbaum was charging kyle rittenhouse from behind. >> reporter: the defense also calling an expert who analyzed video from the protests and testified rittenhouse killed rosenbaum and huber and injured grosskreutz in a matter of 2 minutes and 55 seconds. grosskreutz, the only person rittenhouse shot and survived, watched the teenager's breakdown on the witness stand.

and described his reaction to that testimony in an interview with michael. >> to me it seemed like a child who had just gotten caught doing something he wasn't supposed to. >> reporter: jurors also saw this footage, hernandez took it of rosenbaum before the shooting appearing confrontational toward a group of armed men, but prosecutors pressing hernandez on his social media posts. >> have you ever posted anything on social media? >> yes. >> in support of kyle rittenhouse? >> one could argue, yes. >> reporter: and today both sides will work on jury instructions, closing arguments are set for monday morning, whit. >> all right, alex, thank you. now to that exclusive interview with an american tourist wounded outside a popular mexican resort. t.j. holmes has the story. t.j., good morning. >> reporter: hey there, whit. the state department has in place a level 2 travel advisory

warning americans who are going to the area of cancun to use increased caution because of potential crime and violence in the area. even hearing that you still don't think you're going to get shot as you jump into the pool at your resort. that is what happened to an american who is back home now with a story to tell and still with a bullet in his back. >> reporter: i was just like, man, this is it. like i am probably not going to make it. >> reporter: american tourist tanner vanvalkenburg is breaking his silence, speaking out exclusively to abc news, after he was shot while vacationing in a popular resort area in mexico late last week caught in the crosshairs of gunfire by rival gangs. >> we were eating tacos and that's when i started hearing gunfire. >> reporter: vanvalkenburg was with his partner and two friends when the gunman headed ashore in front of a hyatt resort and opened fire. the shooting left two dead and four americans injured. the armed suspects initially escaped but this morning, local officials confirm to abc news they have five people in custody. >> we thought that they were fireworks and then more started

going off and everyone started to panic and run and that's when i took off and all of us jumped into the pool. >> reporter: the melee sent tourists scrambling for cover, some even hiding under pool chairs. >> and as soon as the bullet hit me, i came up from kind of the water and i was holding the gunshot wound as i was bleeding, kind of putting as much pressure on it as i could because i knew i had been hit. i honestly thought that i was going to die because i thought the gunmen were basically going to come and kill everyone. >> reporter: the hyatt tells abc news they immediately engaged with local officials adding the safety and well-being of guests and colleagues is always a top priority. vanvalkenburg was taken to a hospital and later released but returned to the resort welcomed by the staff and guests. >> it was super emotional. they were really concerned about me and so i was really impressed of that. >> he had to go back to the resort to stay one night before

he flew back here, but a reminder, 40 million americans pre-pandemic went to mexico every single year. those numbers are going back up so just be aware. we turn to britney spears. the pop superstar's contentious conservatorship could come to an end with a high-stakes hearing set for today. kaylee hartung has more this morning. >> reporter: this morning, all eyes on britney spears. as a judge could finally put an end to her nearly 14-year-long conservatorship this afternoon. ♪ my life has been so overprotected ♪ >> reporter: earlier this week, britney writing in a since-deleted instagram post, this week is going to be very interesting for me. six weeks ago the judge suspending her father jamie from the legal arrangement. britney's conservatorship, usually reserved for the elderly and disabled, was put in place amid a bitter divorce and custody battle in 2008. in february, "framing britney spears" went viral spotlighting the so-called free britney movement. >> if i'm wrong and one day she

morning. this is what we were all hoping for. baby blaise waking up in his own bed this morning, his mother finally reunited with him after a 36-hour frantic search and he was found just within a mile of his home. ye-ooyn orgi, the ended. >> it was like i instantly started crying. i was speechless. >> reporter: speechless as her desperation turned into overwhelming relief thursday afternoon after a woman called 911 saying she had found a kid in her car. >> she took the baby inside her home. when officers arrived, they met with paramedics who performed a medical check on baby blaise. >> reporter: baby blaise was abducted early wednesday morning as his parents were unloading their car. his mother says she believes someone got into her suv and took off with the boy inside. later that day police located

the vehicle, but the baby was nowhere to be found. it wasn't until the day after that that his mother received a call she will forever remember. >> he was like, we got him and i was like, you got him? and everybody was just like screaming and i was like, okay, and i started crying. now i know my baby is safe. >> reporter: listen to this. just two hours before he was found, family and friends gathered together to say a prayer for his safe return and the mother tells me that she believes it was that prayer that brought her baby home to her. guys. >> we are so glad they are reunited and he is safe. elwyn, thank you so much. we are following a lot of other headlines this morning including the latest on that concert tragedy. travis scott's attorney is joining us live. and amy and our crew's wild journey to antarctica finally reaching those penguins, but first let's go to ginger. good morning, ginger. good morning to you, michael. those blizzard conditions we were warning you about came true.

islands to see the penguins. we also have an exclusive clip from the new marvel series "hawkeye," that's all coming up here later this morning. we are going to turn now to a morning exclusive and in a moment we'll speak live with travis scott's attorney as the death toll in that houston concert tragedy rises to nine, but first back to marcus moore there in dallas with the latest on this. good morning again, marcus. >> reporter: cecilia, good morning. as this investigation stretches into another day, the death toll as you mentioned sadly is rising. 22-year-old bharti shahani died from her injuries. she was a senior at texas a&m university and was at the concert with family. she suffered multiple heart attacks authorities say as she was crushed by the crowd. it's been nearly a week since it left eight others dead and hundreds hurt and there was chaos long before the gates even opened, and in the days since

there's been finger pointing about who could have or who should have stopped the show. and whether or not it could have stopped sooner by travis scott, the organizers or even houston police. this morning, no one has been held accountable, and there's no clear answers on what exactly went wrong. cecilia, the police chief said this is a criminal investigation, and that it could months for them to find answers as to what went wrong at this concert. cecilia? >> okay, marcus, thank you so much. and as you just said, there are so many questions and right now we are joined by travis scott's attorney, ed mcpherson. thank you for being with us. i want to start with bharti shahani, the ninth young person who passed away from the injuries that she sustained there at your client's show and we also have a 9-year-old boy in a medically incluesduced coma. i'll ask you how much responsibility does your client bear for what happened that night? >> you know what, that's what the investigations are about. that's what we're trying to get to the bottom of is who was

responsible. this obviously was a systemic breakdown that we really need to get to the bottom of before we start pointing fingers at anyone. >> there are so many questions, indeed, about what happened there. we know that police declared this mass casualty event before 9:40 p.m. the show though continued to go on for another 40 minutes. that mass casualty declaration, did it not get to your clients at all or anyone on his team for that matter? >> it absolutely did not. in fact, i think we've seen footage of police half an hour later just walking about and not looking like it was a mass casualty event, but clearly the important thing is that never got to travis. that never got to travis' crew. he's up there trying to perform. he does not have any ability to know what's going on down below, certainly on a mass level. >> so we've seen -- you're looking at one right now, so many videos from that show and we know travis stopped the show

several times. at one point he acknowledges that someone had passed out and called for help. we've seen other footage where you can see ambulance lights, conce concertgoers going out in stretchers. at when point did travis find out what happened, and while all this was going on, what did he think was happening down below? >> you know what, travis didn't really understand the full effect of everything until the next morning truly. he did not know what was going on as you can see from the clip, the clip right there he's on a riser at one point and he sees one boy down and he actually asked security, stops the show and asks security to get to that person. there are a couple other times, one with you say an ambulance but looked more like a golf cart with some lights. he wasn't sure what that was but he stopped the show for that and told people to get aside. if they're okay put their hands up. there was one other instance in front of him where he saw something specific, but understand that when he's up on the stage and he has flash pots going off around him and he has an ear monitor with music

blasting through it and his own voice he can't hear anything. he can't see anything. >> we also just saw this new report that marcus was talking about right before you about how out of hand this was even before the concert started. folks storming security gates, one person sent to the hospital before the gates even opened. was travis scott aware of any of that? >> he certainly was not. he's not part of that. he doesn't run security. he was preparing for the concert and that's it. so this is the first time i've seen footage of that and i'm pretty sure that travis wasn't aware of that until much after the concert. >> but this isn't the first time, sir, that fans have been injured at one of travis scott's shows. he was arrested, in fact, twice for incidents that took place at his concerts. does he not have a history of inciting crowds that come to his shows? >> you know what, travis as an artist has really grown up a lot. i've spoken personally to him

about this and he really didn't understand the magnitude of his power up on the stage, i think, as a young performer and he's really matured over the years. he does understand that. that's why when he saw something specific he told security to get over there and when he saw other things that were specific, he made sure that somebody went to help. >> so when he was telling the crowd that night to rage that was not inciting them? >> i don't think so. i think it's nothing more than any other performer wants. you want your audience to be engaged. you want them to be standing up. you don't want them to be sitting down. i certainly don't think he -- i know he didn't have anything like this in mind, certainly. he wanted them to be engaged and he wanted them to have a good time. we're coming out of covid. this is what the festival was about. >> ed mcpherson, we thank you for your time. michael? coming up, amy will join us live with more from her incredible journey, so stay right there for more "gma." there she is. e for more "gma."

? yes we're on petermann island and it's snowing, first of all, which is so picturesque but everywhere you turn you see glacier, icebergs, stunning but the thing that makes this island so special are the residents right behind me, the penguins, and there are thousands of them on this island which is so super cool. you know we had a tough time getting here. we had high winds, high seas all through this notorious drake passage, but looking at all of this, wow, was it worth it. antarctica is known for being the coldest, windiest place on earth and it's living up to its reputation. our expedition team enduring bone-chilling temperatures, rough seas and hurricane-force wind speeds with gusts of up to 90 miles per hour. you know, i've covered a lot of hurricanes so i think it's fairly safe to say these are hurricane-force gusts. antarctic weather is living up to its reputation. shortly after we got off the air thursday, the captain shut down the outer decks for everyone's

safety, rerouting on the fly charting a new course south sailing toward petermann island, hoping to outrun the storm but along the way the sun came out and so did some of antarctica's most famous residents at bailey head on deception island. as you can see we are still dealing with tropical storm force winds just battering us so weren't able to get on to the zodiacs, the last island we were at, so this is our plan b. deception island here behind me and those little black dots, those are penguins. finally, our abc news crew was able to disembark the "endurance" for the first time since boarding for a broadcast tech test. it is 10:00 p.m. here tonight and we are in the harbor with an absolutely magnificent, majestic iceberg behind us to bring all the wonders of antarctica to you. all right. we're laughing, the snow is

really starting to come down hard here. doug, our resident penguin expert, is telling me there are as many as 6,000 penguins right now on this island which is remarkable. we want to let everyone at home know we went through some very intense animal sessions where we learned to stay 15 feet, that's the closest we can get to these animals because we don't want to do anything to disturb their natural habitat and their natural ways so, doug, this is exciting to be here to get here and witness all of this, but it's very important, how are these birds, how are these penguins affected by climate change? >> that's a great question, amy, and the location we're at today is exemplary of the impacts that they're feeling from climate change. warming temperatures have made the habitat more suitable for these penguins here, the gentoo penguins and less suitable for the former occupants adelie penguins here before. there's just a couple hundred of the adelie penguins left so it's been a real dynamic shift in this peninsula, where the temperatures have changed so dramatically over the last few decades. >> and it's what we're doing in our country and in other

countries causing this for piece penguins. that's what we're hoping people will learn when they see this and how beautiful these guys and ladies are. i can't tell them apart. talk about their majestic ways and what could happen if things continue down the path they're on? >> if things continue the way they are, these animals operate on a fairly strict regime. they evolved under temperature regimes that were more conducive than they are now. if we don't change our ways and if we don't amend our behaviors, we'll see animals like these penguins disappear off the planet. >> and that would be a tragedy. doug, thank you so much. going to send it back to you in your warm studio. >> we're just talking about the penguins going back and forth. that little walk. you going to do it? >> yeah, yeah. >> penguins going across. >> you're really going there. okay. coming up, you left me hanging. our "play of the day." >> i was like the world.

by our houston station ktrk, officials were facing out-of-control crowds for hours on end before travis scott even took the stage. but it was that moment just around 9:30 that night that officials wrote, quote, this is when it all got real. overnight, travis scott and his team saying in a statement, quote, they are actively exploring routes of connection with each and every family affected by the tragedy. speaking to cecilia this morning scott's attorney repeatedly denying that he had any knowledge of it throughout his set. >> i didn't understand the full effect until the next morning, truly, but understand that when he's up on the stage and has flash pots going off around him and an ear monitor with music blasting through it and his own voice, he can't see anything, he can't hear anything. >> reporter: scott's team also says that he has set up ang

's one of our farite guests, john stamos is here, everybody. always, always a pleasure to have you on the show. >> thank you. >> people love "big shot" and they love you in "big shot." i'm going to read a headline from "the l.a. times." john stamos is one of tv's most underrated actors in "big shot." he has found the perfect part in a lovely show. time he received his due. >> did my mother write that? >> no. but they say it's like a stamos renaissance, a stamossance. >> after 80 years in the business somebody writes something nice like that is very sweet. >> congratulations are in order, because you just got picked up for a second season. >> right in line with the second anniversary, right? >> that's fantastic. >> don't you love disney plus? >> yes.

>> i know i seem like a company man but i am. i mean i'd be so bummed out if i wasn't on disney plus right now. >> you get a second season out of it. what is the audience connecting with so much in the show? >> well, you know, family entertainment, right? you guys -- i know you have kids. it's, you know, discord is at an all-time high and decency at an all-time low. so when you have a show that's about heart and about, david kelly writes the show and so it's grounded, i play a basketball coach who gets kicked out of the ncaa -- ncaa is college basketball, by the way, throw a chair and then i have to go coach these high school girls but it's a guy who comes in with preconceived ideas of women in sports and came at a perfect time with the issues that, you know, the women sports, locker room stuff, and it's just a female forward, female empowering -- i'm the only guy on there. it's like 98% diverse female and it's disney. it's inclusion.

it's unity, it's diversity, i just am so proud of this show. >> and it's perfect that you're part of the disney family because i understand that you and your wife are huge disney fans and you do disney bounding. you dress up not as a disney character but representing a character. what is this all about? >> when i first met my wife, you know, when you get to know -- i play drums, i play ukelele, i love disney, i love disney bounding. i'm like, that sounds hot. [ laughter ] sign me up. but it's the opposite of hot. you can't wear costumes at the parks so it's sort of a tribute to -- if it's mickey mouse in black and yellow you wear those but it's too much. i like to wear nice clothes especially when i'm walking around and they usually don't turn out -- weird colors, a lot of yellow shoes. >> match the color theme? >> you match the color theme but she'll come on, do you have anything amarith? i don't even know what that is.

one time i came home, she was spray painting my shoes yellow. it's beautiful -- we show some -- >> we rolled some pictures. >> my son doesn't like it either. he was throwing off the hat and stuff. these are high class family problems to have. >> there's your son billy. billy is 3 now. >> he's like i don't want to wear this. >> does he have a favorite disney character? >> you know, he has a lot of them -- that's my wife. isn't she beautiful? >> she is. >> you know, she was at disneyland a few weeks ago and don rickles was one of my dearest friends, second father to me, and billy ran up to mr. potato head and rickles -- there is a voice, hey, kid, i'm here, you know, mr. potato -- and i started crying because it was just that moment where don never got to meet my son and he always wanted me to have -- oddly enough when billy was born he looked just like don rickles so. most babies do.

>> reporter: hey, guys, it is so exciting. paula right now is inside her sister alexandria's house and we've been here all morning long with all the folks. paula knows what it takes to take care of a family and started the lullaby house, an organization with her sister alexandria. we have a little surprise for paula. paula. alexandrea, paula, come on, come on. where's paula? paula. come here. hey, girl. hey, paula. i'm janai norman with "good morning america." >> hello. >> you are on live tv right now. i know. come on, come on. it's okay. look at this. we've been sneaking around all morning long. come on, come on, come on. all these people here who love you. they want to celebrate you. they all know how special you are. how do you feel, paula? it's a lot, right? they all know how special you are but let's show america your

story. watch right here. >> oh, my. >> i think you'll probably describe my mom as someone with a little bit of spunk. >> huh? >> one of the things i admire most about her, though, is her capacity to love. >> reporter: paula cornelius is a giver. when it comes to how far she'll go for someone her love has no bounds. >> paula was a social worker when she first graduated from school. she would take care of a lot of kids in the foster care system and so she decided to start adopting so she adopted 13 children all from teenage mothers. >> not everyone has the capacity for 13 kids or more but i think she really just has a grace for family, a grace for parenting specifically. >> reporter: when paula found out she couldn't have biological children of her own she stepped up for others. first adopting sydney and then

adopting more, and after that, she realized a lot of her kids had biological siblings so adopted them as well leaving her and her husband with one very large, very happy family. >> i'll tell you what, christmases became stressful. it's not even about blood. it's about family, love and taking them out of not so good situations and inspiring them and giving them a foundation to go out in the world and accomplish great things. >> reporter: but paula opening the doors for these kids to have relationships with their biological parents as well. >> they get the best of both worlds. you have adopted, then you have your blood parents. >> reporter: for these 13 paula has changed their lives but they're not the only ones she's helped with her love. teaming up with her sister to form the lullaby house in dallas, texas, an organization dedicated to helping teenage parents. >> giving that love and support they need and letting them know that even though they may be in a crisis situation it doesn't define their life.

>> reporter: now those she's helped want to thank paula for everything. >> thank you so much. with all my heart. >> bless you, bless you a thousand times over. >> i love you. >> i appreciate you and i still look up to you and i thank you because my life would have not been the same without a big sister like you. >> all: we love you, mom. we love you, mom. >> now, paula, how are you feeling right now? i see you wiping tears. >> overwhelmed. overwhelmed. thankful. >> you had no idea this is happening, did you? >> oh, goodness. >> all these people love you so much and we know this year has taken such a toll on you with covid. your sister alexandrea was diagnosed with cancer. thankfully she is healthy. you were with her every step of the way. we also know that you had a big family trip planned but because of the pandemic that was canceled. i want you to look right here. you might recognize somebody with my friend rob marciano. rob, take it away. >> hi, janai. good morning, paula.

we're here, of course, with mickey himself. i mean the mouse that can do just about everything and we know like janai said that you were planning a trip here to disney world and while mickey was really disappointed, he really wanted to meet paula, so mickey and everybody here at disney world, we want to bring you here to meet the main man. you, your entire family vacation in disney world, paula. america loves you and so does disney. what do you think about that? >> so, paula, you are going to disney world. five days, four nights, so exciting but like i said, we know you had a family trip planned for like 25 people, everybody here, your first big family trip. >> yeah. >> we know everything is bigger in texas including the surprises and that's why disney is not just sending you, paula. disney is sending every single one of you, to disney world. [ cheers and applause ] yes. >> oh, how awesome.

long. she has done so much. how does it feel for you and how was it keeping the secret? >> hard. hard trying to keep it from 13 children. but it just meant the world to me and again she tells me all the time i brought her out of retirement. you know, just coming to work for the lullaby house and the things that we do and that same love that she's poured into her family has carried over into our organization and we're changing lives and it's all because of her. she is in the community after working and serving and, you know, every day so i couldn't ask for a better big sister. >> amazing. well, congratulations to all of you, and, guys, there's one more thing, because this is all in celebration of disney plus you're all getting a disney plus subscription for next year. >> you do? okay. watch this. >> take a look. >> watch this. >> hey, i don't think i asked cameron the word for stop. hang on. nice doggie, good doggies. sl is incredible to be part of this team in action. i am feeling our shared animal connection. i got to tell you. i never thought in my whole life that i'd be mushing. that's my pack. >> amazing. >> but as we were exploring dogs and what they're about, they're pack animals, so people in those settings not just sergeant preston of the yukon but they built a little contraption like a ben-hur jury-rigged ben-hur chariot and put a bunch -- a pack of huskies and, sure enough, they take you on this wild ride. i did it. >> i want to show up to the dog park like that. just kind of roll in. my dog is part husky and my walk feels like that on the leash. >> what's your dog's name? >> copper. >> copper. >> a little rescue mutt. very cute. >> our first dog was ginger and

our current family dog is woody who appears in this episode. it kills me. i watch all these episodes and , baasngly delighted at my own self but i getho my kids are part o and i gave them all my family albums so my parents appear in it. >> speaking of that, your kids, by the way, we have to mention you shot some of these episodes with your kids involved. what was that like? >> you know, they were always, dad, there's emily, my wife, and there's charlie and i'm holding river. yeah, they were like, dad, what are you doing? where are you going, so i was happy to involve them and they're very sensitive. we had a couple of wonderful directors, katherine o'kane and karen who just let them play and catch them as they were playing. yeah, they were in fireworks this year. we got to see up close charlie's birthday is fourth of july, so he always gets treated but never -- i had never seen anything this close up. one of those big families who do

character, who would it be, ellie? >> my is ariel from "the little mermaid." it's not just the red hair. she was a childhood icon of mine. her voice is like heavenly. and i don't know -- i haven't thought it totally through and don't want to have a tail but i would love to be able to sing the song. >> gadgets and gizmos aplenty. >> galore. somebody else is -- >> who cares. i got two daughters so, you know. rob, how about you? >> i would be either goofy or pluto, because i need to figure out why, why does goofy walk on two feet and wear clothes and pluto is like naked and run around -- we need a gritty prestige drama to figure it out. >> the mouse next to mickey is a humanoid -- >> a little too deeply. little too deeply. >> i just want to sing, man. >> you two, we're here to talk about your show and "home alone" is such an iconic movie.

it's a christmas favorite for most. what made you want to take on such an iconic role? ellie, we'll start with you. >> we love -- i say we as though -- rob and i read every script together. >> on a tandem bike. >> the script which is written by mikey day who writes on "saturday night live" was such a great story. i laughed out loud reading it. it breathes new life into the "home alone" franchise. we get to be the bad guys. but we're kind of good. we're trying to save our family. that's why we burglar a young boy's house. >> yeah, i read the script and said i don't care if they make it. i've had a lovely two hours reading it. they said do you want to be in it, i said, yes, please. we tried not to screw up the amazing script and the wonderful direction by dan. i got to work with ellie who is the best. >> rob is the best. >> let's take a look. >> oh, dear. >> breaking and entering. >> just entering. i had the key.

>> against the wall -- ♪ like a lightbulb ♪ >> this is so terrible. that's why i didn't do it. come on. >> well, good. ♪ like pinocchio ♪ >> we need that. >> i know what we'll do. let me think. ♪ reindeer games ♪ ♪ like monopoly ♪ >> that's too late. >> those are some vests. >> yes. >> they let me pick my own costume for that scene, swear to god. that's what i chose. >> there was a lot of physical comedy in this. did you do your own stunts? >> we're very proud of ourselves. yes, we got to do the bulk of the stunts. anything that didn't pose, you know, a serious danger, yeah, yeah. >> so what was that like? >> we felt like superheroes. we had our stunts team, they came to us from new zealand, they were fantastic and trained us so thoroughly, so well and felt very safe. it was fun. we get hurt, but in the name of comedy. >> they really made us do it

all. i thought we would spend half our time in the trailer reading a magazine but they made us do all the stunts, we didn't do all of them well, but when we couldn't do it elegantly or make it look cool, then they'd bring in the pros but put us through the paces. >> when i read the scene -- outdoor pool scene we fall into, i absolutely thought we will be outside in the dead of winter like sinking into a pool but it was inside. uh-oh. >> no spoilers. no spoilers. >> there's a boy tormenting you throughout this process played by archie yates here. do you think he actually enjoyed that process like a little bit? we're looking at some of the clips here. seems like he had a good time. >> too much i'd say. we're making movies is a job, it's not a game, and obviously he was very happy to be doing all that stuff. i don't think he was necessarily acting so much as just existing to harm us. >> it's every boy's fantasy, right, to beat the -- >> it's mine. >> out of your -- i guess we're not his parents but parental figures so i think he had a blast.
