several men yesterday afternoon at an gas station in santa rosa. police say she was forced into a gray chrysler minivan with temporary texas license plates. police released this image of the suspect, 21-year-old. he is 5'6" with a than build. she has long black hair and was last seen wearing a green and black sweatshirt. investigators say that vehicle may have headed to the l.a. area. jobina: focusing on education is a big part of her effort to build a better bay area. two schools will be closing after a vote despite parents rallying to keep them open. amy hollyfield is joining us live on what this means. amy: the vote was a bit of a compromise. they decided to close two schools instead of four, which was the proposed plan. including this school,

strawbridge elementary school in hayward. many parents did not want any school closures and there were some rallies yesterday to fight to keep them all open. the superintendent says the district has too many schools and not enough students. he says the buildings they have near repairs. doing repairs on all of the buildings could be expensive and prevent them from doing much needed upgrades. students, parents, and district employees questioned the need for closures. >> we have a great school and great teachers. why should we have to close? >> even if enrollment is down, we still should not be closing the school because of that. you need to advertise and get people to come out to come back to hayward and want to live in hayward. amy: officials say the district has had a 25% decline in students over the last 20 years and that number is expected to keep going down. they voted just before 11:00

encouraging parents to get their children vaccinated. the administration says about 2.6 million kids, almost 10% of those eligible have gotten the shot. in order to be fully immunized by christmas, children should get their first dose by this sunday. kumasi: thank you. california's my terran website is open for booster shot appointments. this is the first time that all adult californians are able to sign up on the site to get the shot. last week, the state announced that all adults should be eligible to get a booster, but many found it difficult to get an appointment. you have to be at least 18 and be fully vaccinated at least six months ago. >> osha has suspended enforcement of its vaccine mandate for companies with more than 100 employees. this comes after the fifth circuit court of appeals ordered a motion to hold off until further court rulings. the court said the mandate is fatally flawed and the lawsuit would likely succeed because the mandate exceeds osha's

cars parked in the garage were damaged. firefighters say there was construction happening on the property at the time. a cause has not been identified. the driver of this car was taken to a hospital after a rollover crash overnight. this is at the intersection of old piedmont road and piedmont road. the car slammed into a tree and rolled over onto its roof. there is a big mess on the roadway. firefighters managed to pull the driver out of the car and into an ambulance. kumasi: a growing problem for business owners and residents in santa rosa. unhoused people leaving waste, trash, and needles on the street. liz kreutz shows us the frustration and what the city is doing or not doing about it. liz: in downtown santa rosa, there are bustling restaurants and businesses in benches with charlie brown sculptures, but tiffany moore who owns empire optometry says the charm of 4th street is often overshadowed by

at the corner of kernville and fulton road. police say she was forced into a green chrysler minivan with temporary texas license plates. police released this image of the suspect, 20-year-old semino. 5'6" with a thin build, she was last seen wearing a sweatshirt and black jeans. the vehicle may be headed to los angeles. reggie: some hayward parents and students are upset this morning as they are dealing with the fact that their elementary schools will be closing next year. the school district says they do not have enough to keep these two campuses open. amy hollyfield is live at one of the schools. amy: take a good look at strawbridge elementary school here in hayward. this school will be closing after this school year.

the school board voted late last night to close this one and also moment elementary. parents fought hard to keep them open. they rallied yesterday along with some kids and district employees and many spoke out, more than 50 people gave their opinions during the meeting, but the superintendent says kids are leaving the district. they did not have enough students to fill up the schools they have and many of those buildings need repairs. >> even if we did just minimal repairs, it is a significant amount of money for each of our aging facilities and that does not even get to getting in the kind of classroom upgrades we want for our students. amy: here is a look at the declining enrollment. it is down 25% over the last 20 years and it is expected to keep going down. last night's vote came late, just before 11:00 last night and it was a bit of a compromise. they decided to only closed two schools instead of the four they were considering.

bowman and trowbridge will finish this school year, but will not open in the fall of 2022 and they did leave the option of closing more schools in the future on the table, saying they have a $14 million deficit here in the school district. live in hayward, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. kumasi: happening today, a major push to get east bay students and families vaccinated before, during, and after the thanksgiving holiday. the oakland unified school district is hosting a vaccine clinic. it will include a visit by the state epidemiologist. the clinic runs from noon to 6:00 p.m. at markham elementary school. the district is planning 21 vaccination pop-ups this week and offering covid testing and take-home test during the break. reggie: after more than a year apart, many families are planning to travel and hold get-togethers next week for thanksgiving. san francisco has rolled out a plan to encourage everyone to do

that safely. jobina fortson is live with a look at what health offenders -- health officials are suggesting. jobina: this is the true definition of the saying what a difference a year makes. san francisco school officials are asking everyone to play it safe and that involves getting tested frequently. this week, public schools began handing out these self swab kids to anyone who is symptomatic or who has been in contact with someone with covid-19 jobina: that is in addition -- that is in addition to mobile testing sites. the public health department offered this update. >> as people gather and engage in the busy holiday season, contact rate will increase and therefore, there are more opportunities for the virus to spread. jobina: here is what the health department recommends. families should delay travel until everyone is fully vaccinated. if they do need to travel, to

test before and after the trip and there may even need to be a quarantine period when everyone gets back, regardless of vaccination status. as of today in san francisco, 13,000 children ages five to 11 have received their first dose of the vaccine. that is 30% of the kids in that age group. kumasi: thank you. there are new charges in the corruption scandal at san francisco city hall. an indictment was filed tuesday that accuses roderigo santos, a structural engineer, of asking clients to contribute to the san francisco golden gate rugby association. the indictment claims santos intended to influence bernard curren, who was active with the organization and with the city building expect at the time. federal investigators say the two engage and a conspiracy for nearly three years. reggie: new developments in a gas station robbery in oakland. the retired police captain who was wounded is now out of the hospital.

police chief baran armstrong tales chronicle that veteran is now recovering at home. he was shot six times at a downtown gas station last month. joyner was in critical condition. one of the armed suspects was fatally shot by joiner. joiner was legally carrying a firearm at the time. chief armstrong says they are looking for the other two suspects. speaking of the chief, the shocking level of gun violence in oakland recently is the result of unprecedented firepower on the streets. he fears that crime will only get worse as the number in his force shrinks. >> it has been a wake-up call for all of us. it can cause so much damage -- damage to families, but also the communities. reggie: there were 200 rounds of gunfire in a shooting last week. on sunday night, a mother and her daughter were shot in their home. 11 days ago, a boy he not even two years old was killed by a

stray bullet while riding in a family car on interstate 80. there are 681 officers right now, but that number is expected to shrink as they direct resources away from traditional policing. >> it is about our ability to regain the trust of our communities safe -- so they do not believe unless the police make them safer. reggie: only one third of open homicide cases result in the rest and charges -- in an arrest and charges. that low clearance rate is tied to the number of investigators trying to look at double the number of homicides in oakland. kumasi: it is not often that a patient receives a welcome party when arriving at a hospital, but that is just what a man got when he arrived at santa clara valley medical center. he returned toostal treatefo covid-19 for nine months. he is the hospital's longest patient since the onset of the pandemic.
