jobina and i will keep an eye on that. the breeze will turn around and become an onshore breeze this afternoon, look what it does to temperatures and clouds. almost no sunshine and highs in the upper 50's to low stray shower possible at 7:00, but a chance tonight. more on that coming up. reggie: we want to get to breaking news we have been tracking all morning. an amber alert issued for a teenage girl from valeo. ticket good look at this photo. she is 15 years old. authorities say she was taken yesterday afternoon at a gas station in santa rosa at the corner of grenville and fulton road's. police say she was forced into a green chrysler minivan with temporary texas license plates. police release this image of the suspect, a 20-year-old. she is 5'6", has a thin build, long dark hair and was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt with green and red cherries on it and black jeans.

they say the vehicle may have been heading to the los angeles area. kumasi: focusing on education is a big part of the effort to build a better bay area. two schools will be closing after a late-night vote despite parents rallying to keep them open. amy hollyfield joins us live with more and what this means. amy: the school is one of the ones that will be closing. take one last look, you can see the carla full mural on the side of the building gives a glimpse into the life of the students who walk these halls. they are emotional. the superintendent says with the $14 million deficit and declining enrollment, they had to make the hard choice. parents persisted -- protested the proposal yesterday, and their voices were heard. the district voted to close to schools instead of the proposed four. the superintendent says the buildings they have need repairs.

doing repairs on all buildings would be expensive and could prevent them from doing much needed upgrades and classrooms. the students, parents and district employees questioned the need for closures. >> we have a great school and great teachers. why should we have to close down? >> they should not be closing the school because of that. you need to advertise and get people to come back to hayward. that want to live in hayward. amy: here is a look at the enrollment issue. officials say the district had a 25% decline in students over the last 20 years. and that number is expected to keep going down. they voted just before 11:00 last night, so it was a late night. they voted to close a trowbridge and bowman. they left the door open to vote on more closures after next year , but for now, it will be these two schools they will shut down after the school year. they will not be opening in the

fall 2022. live in hayward, abc 7 news. reggie: engineers at kaiser permanente who have been on strike for two months will get a show support. labor leaders say more than 40,000 workers will take part in a one-day soup at the strike starting at 7:00 this morning. they will pick at several facilities and quizzing in san jose. stricken kaiser engineers repair and maintain medical equipment. in a statement, kaiser says they are offering local employees wages similar to other employees , but union leadership once more, asking for unreasonable increases far beyond any other union at kaiser permanente. kumasi: every american adult could soon become eligible for covid-19 boosters. the of days excited to authorize moderna advisors shots for people 18 years and older as soon as today. jobina's at the live desk with when the cdc could give final approval. jobina: sources to abc news and fda approval today could clear the way for the cdc to give final approval tomorrow.

if the approval timeline goes as expected, all adults might be able to start getting their booster shots as early as this weekend. at least a dozen states, including california, are already offering the shot all adults. officials are citing the growing number of breakthrough cases and more evidence showing waning immunity after six months. cases and hospitalizations are climbing across the nation. at least 27 states have seen an uptick in daily cases in the last two weeks. >> although the highest risk are those people who were unvaccinated, we are seeing an increase in emergency department visits among adults age 65 and older, which are now higher than they are for younger age groups. jobina: the white house is also encouraging parents to get their children vaccinated. the administration says about 2.6 million kids come almost 10% of those eligible, have gotten a shot. in order to be fully immunized by christmas, they should get the first dose by this sunday.

reggie: california's my turn website is open for booster shot appointments. this is the first time all adult californians are able to sign up. last week, the state announced all adults should be eligible to get a booster. many have been finding it difficult to get an appointment. the only requirements are you have to be at least 18 and been fully vaccinated at least six months ago. kumasi: governor newsom says supportive oakland -- the port of oakland is ready to ease the backlog of container ships. speaking in long beach, he said to container ships have already been diverted from long beach to oakland this month and another diversion is happening next month. port of oakland officials say they are ready, but a local trucking company says while there might not be gridlock on the bay, there is a delay for truckers getting the containers to their final destinations. >> they should be able to do two and a day. we can't even do one. it is horrible. on this we get in line, pick up the container the day before,

parents fought hard to keep them open. they rallied yesterday along with kids into district employees. many spoke out. more than 50 people give their opinions during the meeting.bute h enough udo fi up theyavmany of the repairs. >> even if we did minimal repairs, it is a significant amount of money for each of the aging facilities. does not even get to the kind of classroom upgrades we want for students. amy: here is a look at the declining enrollment here in hayward. it is down 25% over the last 20 years and is expected to keep going down. last night's vote came late, just before 11:00. this may be news to some people as they are waking up this morning. but this vote was a bit of a compromise. they decided to close on the two schools instead of the four they were considering.

bowman and strawbridge -- ridge will stay open through 2022. they do have a $14 million deficit. live in hayward, abc 7 news. kumasi: happening today, major push to get east bay students thanksgivieoodistct is vaccine clinic today and will include a visit by the state epidemiologist. the clinic runs from noon to 6:00 at markham elementary school. if you can't make it, you do have options. the district says it is planning 21 vaccination pop-ups this week at elementary schools and is offering covid testing and to come tests during the week long break. -- take home test during the week long break. reggie: many families are planning to travel and get-together. san francisco rolled out a plan to encourage everyone to do so safely. jobina's at the live desk with a look at what health officials are recommending. jobina: this is exciting for a

lot of families. a year later, finally planning trips into get-togethers. san francisco school officials are asking everyone to play it safe. that involves getting tested frequently. this week, public schools in the city began handing out these self swab kits to anyone who is symptomatic or has been in close contact with someone with covid-19. that is in addition to mobile testing sites being run by the district. synthesis goes public health department offered this update. -- san francisco's public health department offered this update. >> as people gather and engage, the contact rate will increase. therefore, there are more opportunities for the virus to spread. jobina: here's what officials recommend. families should delay travel until everyone is fully vaccinated. if they do need to travel, test before and after the trip. there may even be in need to quarantine everyone when she will get back, regardless of

vaccination status. as of today in san francisco, 13,000 children ages five to 11 have received their first dose of the vaccine. that is 30% of the kids in that age group. reggie: we sat down with oakland police chief yesterday to talk about the immense number of shootings into violence in oakland. he says this is a result of unprecedented firepower on the streets. the chief is worried prime is only going to get worse as his ranks shrink. >> it's been a wake-up call for all of us. they are firing guns and communities can cause so much damage to families, but also community because the community is hurt, as well. reggie: some examples. there was one incident where 200 rounds of gunfire were shot. on sunday night, mother and her 11-year-old daughter were shot in their home. 11 days ago, a boy not even two years old was killed by a stray bullet while writing a family car on interstate 80 in oakland. -- riding in a family car

interstate 880 in oakland. >> i think it is aboutnk it is t ability to regain the trust of our community, so that they don't believe that less police makes them safer. reggie: currently, only about one third of oakland homicide cases result in an arrest and charges. the chief says that low clearance rate is likely tied to the same number of investigators looking into double the number of homicides in oakland. kumasi: it is not often a patient receives a welcome party when arriving at hospital. but that is what is san jose man got when he arrived at santa clara valley medical center. noah davis returned to the hospital that treated him for covid-19 for nine months. he is the hospital's longest covid patient since the onset of the pandemic. abc 7 news was there when he left the hospital earlier this month in got to see his dog for the first time in a really long time. when he returned to the hospital

kumasi: a man and woman are dead, both shot and killed in a high-rise residential building in the heart of downtown oakland. police responded to reports of gunshots inside of an apartment unit at the residential towers

at 17th and broadway just after midnight. the oakland police departments as both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. officers say both victims were open resident -- oakland residents. homicide investigators have been called out. the two deaths overnight are now the one 21st and one 22nd -- 121ast and year. reggie: elijah mcclain $15 million because of his death. he died in 2019 after a violent confrontation with police where he was held down, then injected with the powerful sedative by paramedics. he died days later after being taken off of life support. the settlement will be divided between his mother and father. officials tell abc news once finalized, it will be the highest police settlement in the history of colorado. kumasi: pacific retail theft a
