the areas around major shopping areas. reggie: friday's smash and grab motivating for the police chief to push for a change in the law. >> it does not make our life easier when there are so many cameras and we do not have access to them. everything friday night was captured on video but we did not have the ability to look at it and call out license plate numbers and suspect descriptions real-time. reggie: the chief brought up the issue on monday during a 101 sit down with phil. the mayor says the city will try to revise the rule that prevents sfpd from looking at surveillance videos in real time. however, activists and privacy advocate says that minor -- monitoring live video feeds raises privacy concerns. sfpd was sued for illegally accessing cameras at union square. kumasi: retail workers are

concerned about the increase in robberies in san francisco. stores at union square has heighten their security. storefronts are boarded up, private security workers guard the entrances of many stores. many luxury brands are locking their doors. once a worker and security guard sees you, you are allowed inside. >> we are doing what we can to ensure the that we know who is coming into our stores. >> i do get scared, but you have to make your money somehow. kumasi: we spoke to several workers in the union square area who were not allowed to speak on camera and they told us that the incident on friday was traumatizing and some of these companies are providing mental health resources. reggie: san francisco public utilities commission declared a water emergency for its 2.7 million customers in the bay area asking people to reduce usage by 10%. right now that is voluntary, not mandatory.

of the traveling production of " jesus christ superstar." court documents allege that he is a member of the oath keepers and on january 6 was part of a group that tried to push into the capitol building. three men are being charged with murder after an attempted robbery of a former oakland police captain ended with a fourth suspect getting killed. they were getting gas in downtown when investigators say three men tried to rob him. a fourth man was waiting in a getaway car. joyner pulled out a gun and shot and killed one of the robbers. another suspect fired back and hit joyner several times. he survived. a legal analyst explained why he has not been charge even though he shot first. >> they are saying that mr. joyner utilize deadly force in a reasonable way because he feared for his life and responded with deadly force. the da's office is not only
