shock days after the school shooting that claimed the lives of four teenagers. the 15-year-old alleged gunman facing charges as an adult. and now in an unusual move, the prosecutor is going after his parents who police say failed to turn themselves in today. u.s. marshals are now offering a $10,000 reward. abc's trevor ault is in michigan. trevor? >> reporter: byron, unprecedented move from the prosecutor here now charging the parents of the alleged oxford high school shooter. james and jennifer crumbley charged with four counts each of involuntary manslaughter. as the prosecutor announced those charges she revealed chilling details, that it appears the parents bought this gun for their 15-year-old. >> i'm angry as a motor, i'm angry as the prosecutor. >> reporter: prosecutor karen mcdonald taking a rare if not unprecedented step, charging the parents of the 15-year-old accused in the oxford high school shooting rampage. >> you are the parents of ethan

crumbley, is that correct? >> yes. >> that is right. >> reporter: the couple last seen at their son's arraignment wednesday. they were due to turn themselves in today. their attorney claiming they are not on the run, but their whereabouts still aren't clear. their son charged as an adult, pleaded not guilty to 24 counts, including first-degreermurder a lot of things that could have been so simple to prevent. >> reporter: today the prosecutor leveling shocking accusations, alleging on black friday, james crumbley brought his son with him to buy that sig sauer 9 millimeter. prosecutors referencing these now-deleted instagram posts, one friday from the alleged sooter's account captioned "just got my new beauty today." and this saturday on his mother's account captioned "mom and son day testing out his new christmas present." >> clearly based on the statements of the shooter, the statements of mom, that was his gun. >> reporter: the morning of the shooting, prosecutors say another teacher was alarmed by a picture drawn by the teen that

world, may have made mistakes, but didn't commit a crime. >> the defense position is elizabeth holms had really high aspirations for herself and this company, theranos. but that she fell short and that that's not a crime. she really had no ill intent. >> reporter: the defense stunned the courtroom in late november, calling holmes as their first witness. >> it is always a risk. criminal defense 101 would tell you never to put your client on the stand. >> she walked up to the stand, took off her mask, smiled. that set the tone for the rest of her testimony. >> she is an incredibly likeable person, and i think she did that on the stand. >> she got to tell the jury about her brain child, the origin of her company. the moment holmes' testimony seemed so turn when is she told the jury about a rape allegation. >> reporter: an emotional holmes telling the courtroom she was raped at stanford, so distraught he dropped out saying she w going to build a life by building this company. >> her voice cracked. it seemed as if -- she looked

like she was going to cry. in that moment, the court was silent. it was a very heavy feeling in the courtroom. >> reporter: then there were the accusations about her relationship with former theranos c.o.o. sunny be nny be atmosphere more than 20 years her junior. the two were romantically involved and lived together for ten years, three of them in this house purchased for $9 million. their first meeting something they described in depositions to the s.e.c. >> i met miss holmes in 2002. >> we were in the same stanford program. >> reporter: on the witness stand, holmes described how she says belwani questioned her acumen saying, he said i didn't know what i was doing, that i needed to kill the person that i was to become a successful entrepreneur. she claims he scheduled much of her life, controlling what she ate and how long she slept.

a routine submitted into evidence showed a day that began at 4:00 a.m., a prayer session, healthy lunches, and dinner with broccoli and quinoa. >> frankly, some of the testimony that she gave was really, really shocking. i thought it was helped by exhibits of contemporaneous notes she had taken on her iphone, some things written down in notebooks. >> reporter: more than just control, holmes claimed there was abuse. she told jurors that balwani would get very angry with me and force me to have sex with him when i didn't want to, because he would say he wanted me to know he still loved me. >> they are putting on this battered women's syndrome.e - the idea is that simultaneously while she is presenting to the world this confidence this ambition this ability to run this multimillion-dollar company, that simultaneously, she has a psychological hold on her as a result of this abusive

relationship that she's in with sunny balwani that actually negates her ability to perceive the wrongfulness of her conduct. >> reporter: his lawyer, jeffrey coopersmith, has maintains holmes' allegations are deeply offensive to mr. balwani, devastating personally to him. he denies all allegations of abuse. i sat down with coopersmith in 2019. he indicated no evidence of such a deeply fractured relationship. >> does he feel in any way that he was duped by elizabeth holmes? >> no. mr. balwani believed in elizabeth holmes and her vision for the company. he tried to execute that plan with her, to make it a success. >> the defense took a huge risk in mounting this defense, because it really could backfire on them. jurors may see it as a sort of cheap shot at getting the sympathy card and that she is now playing the victim. >> reporter: with holmes on the stand, prosecutors once again took aim at the false claims made about the company's devices, that it could run

hundreds of tests on just a few drops of blood. in actuality, they can never run more than 12. prosecutor robert leech playing a clip from "mad money with jim cramer." >> how many tests can your device do? "i did not," holmes responded. the jury will receive the case in the coming weeks. >> it only takes one juror to have some reasonable doubt to have a holdout. there is a possibility here of a a hung jury is always a win for the defense. >> this has been a really hard jury to read. they don't yawn. they don't laugh.
