there is a social media firestorm erupting. one of the owners is explaining their decision in an exclusive interview. san francisco's police chief also reacting. staff at hilda and jesse seated the uniformed officers, but staffers grew uncomfortable by their presence and asked the officers to leave, which they did. one of the owners tells me the decision has nothing to do with who they were, but what the officers were all carrying. >> it is not about the fact we are anti-police. it is about the fact we do not allow weapons in our restaurant. we were uncomfortable, so we politely asked them to leave. it has nothing to do with the fact they were officers, and everything to do with the fact they were carrying guns. >> the officers are welcome to come back to the restaurant without their weapons, and staff would be happy to serve them. she agreed to the interview with me to clarify false narratives on social media about why the

officers were asked to leave. san francisco's police chief also weighed in. he said "the san francisco police department stands for safety with respect, even if it means respecting wishes our officers and i discouraging. i welcome officers who deserve to know they are appreciated for the difficult job we ask them to do in their uniforms to keep our uniforms and businesses safe." new developments with the omicron variant. . it has been detected in at least 16 states. researchers say it may be more transmissible because it shares the same genetic code as the common cold. the u.k. is requiring all travelers coming into the country who are 12 years and older to show proof of a negative test two days prior to departure. it is a sign of the times. a flower shop in millie valley says it is so desperate to get

pandemic stress, many say they need to mealtime share. >> it is what it is. let's enjoy this season. >> in san francisco, cornell barnard. >> things have changed. in the ease bay, an oakland woman narrowly missed getting her purse snatched after her kids sprang into action to stop her attacker. surveillance video shows a man follow and approach the 54-year-old woman as she returned home with her daughter. you can see the man run up the front stairs and grab the woman's handbag. that is when her son heard screaming. and along with her daughter, chased the man away. she says it is just what needed to be done. >> sometimes, parents get nervous really easily, and they don't know what to do. as the younger generation, we try and protect the other

generation. >> she says her family has been attacked2 previous times, so they are adding security cameras. she's also thankful for neighbors who saw what was happening and started screaming and helped provide surveillance. so far, there have been no arrests. to the north bay, where we are learning about a major chop shop bust that involves stolen porsches. the wanted fugitive accused of stealing a number of classic cars and parting them out has been arrested after he got off of a cruise ship in san francisco a week ago. wayne kreger is in custody on a 2019 warrant for grand theft. officers raided two chop shop locations in santa rosa and novato. they found eight classic porsches, along with carports, fraudulent paperwork, and fraudulent vehicle identification numbers. an 18-year-old santa rosa high school student arrested on suspicion of bringing a gun to campus.

it happened friday at montgomery high school. officers pulled the student from class and searched his backpack. the student most likely did not intend to use the weapon or threaten anyone with it. he's been booked into sonoma county jail for possession of a concealed handgun and bringing a gun onto school campus. the parents of the accused michigan school shooter are now in police custody. they were found last night in an art studio in detroit. they are accused of not doing enough to stop their son, who is accused of killing four people and wounding seven others on tuesday. karina mitchell has more on this story. >> they are being held separately in the same jail as their son. their capture came after they failed to turn themselves into authorities when warrants were issued for their arrest. they were caught in a nearby detroit. >> if there is no culpability, why would you go -- be in a warehouse in detroit? >> police believe they had help

getting into the warehouse, and say anyone who assisted them may also face charges. lawyers say their clients were not running, and were going to turn themselves in on saturday. >> that is fine, we don't wait for them. >> in a court appearance, they were charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter in the deaths of four students from oxford high school. both pleading not guilty. prosecutors say their son carried out a shooting using the gun purchased by the father days earlier as a christmas present. prosecutors say they were aware of disturbing and violent drawings found on their son's desk the morning of the shooting. >> this is a very serious, horrible, terrible murder and shooting. it has affected the entire community. these two individuals could have stopped it. >> the judge set their bond at half $1 million each. they can face up to four 15 year prison sentences if convicted. their son has been charged as an

u.s. and prompting a fresh round of warnings. be concerned but don't panic. the message from health officials about the new omicron variant. at least 16 states have reported cases of the strain, including california. alex per shay has the latest. >> doctors and scientists are racing to learn more about the omicron variant as it pops up in more parts of the country. the first case reported several days ago. even states with no confirmed cases are issuing warnings. >> should not be surprising it can be omicron already. >> it was first dictated in southern africa. it is spreading their choices fast as the delta variant. >> a few weeks ago, they were about 200 to 300 cases a day. now there are over 15,000. >> despite the many unknowns, officials stressed the best thing against it is vaccination. in the past few days, more americans have lined up to either get their first shot or a booster. >> the signs on this one are

clear. the vaccines help keep people from getting sick. the boosters provide an extra layer of protection. >> 22 states have seen upticks of 10% or more in hospital admissions over the past week. >> delta continues to drive cases across the country. especially in those who are unvaccinated. >> nearly 60,000 americans are now hospitalized with covid-19. >> must be vaccinated by december 18. that's according to a judge who today denied a request from the firefighters union to delay the enforcement of the city's vaccination mandate. the union argued the mandate was not properly bargained and saute parliamentary injunction to block it from taking effect. about 400 firefighters arista being put on unpaid leave later this month because they had not been vaccinated. travel rules have been changing because of the spread of the new variant. if you are traveling over the next few weeks, especially going out of the country, experts say

close borders if the new variant spreads. new rules already require passengers to show a negative covid test within 24 hours of their flight back to the u.s. >> this is something they need to plan and start as soon as possible, wherever their destination is, to book appointments asap. this is a requirement, and you will not be getting on a plane coming back home if you don't have your proof of negative covid-19 test. >> a positive result could mean being stranded overseas in quarantine. border restrictions may mean losing money for tours, lodging, and transportation. many companies offer specific covid-19 travel insurance. if you are going overseas, check for policies covering expenses in case you are quarantined. medical coverage if you get sick from covid. cancellations for lodging, tours, transportation, and airfare. >> look for policies that let you cancel for any reason, such as not wanting to travel during
