53 to 56 at noon, 55 to 56 4:00. all of us have a better chance by 7:00 for rain. we will talk more about this coming up. kumasi: thank you. how the officials say the omicron variant is spreading quickly throughout the country. reggie: a new study is showing just how transmissible it might be. jobina is here with more on those jobina: findings. jobina:cases of the omicron variant have been included in 17 states, including here in california. it may have borrowed genetic material from the common cold, making it more infectious. even though it may be more transmissible, reports out of south africa indicate hospitalization rates have not alarmingly increased. dr. anthony fauci warns we still need information. >> we really have to be careful before we make any determinations that it is less severe or really does not cause any severe illness comparable to delta. thus far, the signals are a bit

encouraging regarding the severity. jobina: another new study, this one from johnson & johnson, shows mixing and matching their booster on top of an original pfizer vaccine prompts a strong immune response. health officials continue to urge people to get vaccinated and get their booster shot. 6 million people across the country received shots on friday. kumasi: thank you. whether you have a vaccine or not, you need to follow a new set of rules to enter the u.s. stick a look at sfo this morning -- let's take a look at sfo this morning, where any international traveler needs to show a negative covid test within 24 hours of traveling. amy hollyfield is joining us live in the newsroom. amy: this starts today. president biden put this into place in response to the new omicron variant. international travelers now need a negative covid test within one day of returning to the u.s.

on the big blue box. kumasi: a thrift store struggling to get by after having his store broken into for the second time in the month. the thief used a drill to cut through the glass doors at 4:30 yesterday morning. a person it took several cash registers, as well as close off the racks. 's the store's security system alerted the owner. reggie: a store that wanted its hours due to theft now installed security gates. this was at the safeway on market street. the gates prevent would-bewith shopping carts filled with items. errors were also added around the self checkout area, funneling customers out through one exit. this safeway used to be open 24 hours. last month, it started closing at 9:00. happening today, san mateo county is launching a new program to address mental health emergency calls. mental health teams will work

11:00 this evening. i will show you future radar for the overnight hours their tomorrows morning commute, coming up next. here is jobina with this morning's commute. jobina: good morning. the fog is a big part of the commute. this is a live picture showing you the san mateo bridge. there is a new fog advisory in san mateo. what we are seeing here is the eastern span of the bridge as you hop on. you can prepare for low visibility as you make your way toward the peninsula. the bay bridge toll plaza is looking better in terms of the fog. once you get off, it is looking kind of dark as you make your way into san francisco. metering lights came on at 5:39. we are talking about the bay bridge, i want to let you know about this. ntc is opening to commuter -- two to meter parking lots. there in albany, near interstate 80 both are intended to be used for carpooling or employee shuttle services.

mike: let's take a look at what's going on as far as wednesday. it will be a cloudy day, with a chance of drizzle over of the day. the best chance of showers will be up near the sierra, especially on the upslope there. her neck system develops just about on top of us on thursday, with our best chance of rain developing in the southern half of the bay. look at all that snow in the sierra. doesn't that look good? we desperately need it. why? let me show you that snowpack. it is not very good. it is 17% across the entire sierra. but on the low end, it is tahoe at only 11%. reggie: thank you. new this money, a study about blood pressure spiking in adult during the pandemic, more so in women than in men. possible factors include an increase in alcohol consumption,

now, it is just one day. travelers have already said the three-day restriction was stressful, as they waited for results and hoped they made it in time. the key is going to be coming up with a plan, doing your research , something frequent travelers say has become the norm during covid. >> there have been different research and's each time i have traveled this year. it is just checking the restrictions each time and making sure you have the most up-to-date info. amy: it's official say they're trying to do this to catch more omicron cases before they make it into the states. passengers have already been required to get -- i'm vaccinated travelers have already been required to get this test before travel, but now it applies to all passengers. the cdc recommends, but does not require, getting another test three to five days after income. reggie: thank you. at 6:00, the mayor of new york

city just announced a vexing mandate for all federal employees. de blasio, who is set to leave office at the new year, causes a print of strike. the city will also require proof of full vaccination for anyone ages five years old and up for indoor dining, entertainment, and fitness establishments. kumasi: seven more cases of covid-19 have now been identified on a norwegian cruise line ship that first set sail in new orleans. that brings the total number of cases to 17. the ship left louisiana on november 28 and stopped in belize, honduras, and mexico. more than 3000 people were on board. they all had to be tested before getting off. norwegian says it requires all passengers and crew members to be vaccinated before departing. reggie: health officials are raising concerns about another twin-demic. the first cases have been detected in marin county.

on average, influenza kills between 20,000 to 50,000 americans every year. infectious disease experts say we are about two weeks away from seeing how fast influenza will spread this year. that is about the same time scientists say they need to see the transmission rate of omicron variant. marin county is starting to see the first flu cases earlier than usual. >> it's looking like it may be a challenging winter for us. we have shown that influenza is darting to ramp up across the region. typically, mid december is when we start to see a spike in influence of cases. reggie: nationwide, there are reports of influenza cases in recent weeks. 80% are in children and young adults. if you have questions about the flu shot or covid-19 vaccines, we do have resources available at abc7news.com/vaccine. you'll get the latest updates. kumasi: federal investigators are looking for clues to find out what brought down a plane in

southern california. it went down just 16 seconds after taking off on saturday night. people on the plane died. sheriffs deputies say the conditions were really foggy at the time, but it is not clear if whether officially played a role in the crash. reggie: now to the michigan school shooting investigation. we are learning more about the parents of the 15 euros suspect and their actions for they got arrested over the weekend. jobina has more, as all three of them are now in the same jail. jobina: yes. authorities found the parents inside an empty commercial building early on saturday morning. the man who owns the building says he has a friendly relationship with them and he invited them to stay at his art studio. according to that man's attorney, he was not aware the authorities were looking for them. officials say the couple with through $4000 from an atm before the manhunt ended. their lawyers insist they were not turned runaway. >> our clients were absolutely

going to turn themselves in. it was just a matter of logistics. >> they are not speaking to us, any of them, and they are all in my jail, all segregated in separate cells and constantly monitored. jobina: investigators say the father bought a gun on black friday, days for his son allegedly used it to kill students. they have all pleaded not guilty. seven teens and the detroit area have been charged in copycat threats, which forced more than 80 districts take kansas school a suite. reggie: thank. the so-called dancing grannies group appeared for the first time in a parade after the death of several of their members when an suv plowed through a christmas parade. granny's link arms yesterday to honor those members. people in the crowd also held signs in support. they hope to get back to dancing next year after they recruit new members.
