learned on december 6, and now six more cases. omicron has also been found in the sewer system there. >> santa clara officials said it was not a situation of if but when, and the when is now. >> yesterday, we received our first report of a resident of santa clara county with the omicron variant. >> santa clara county public health officer said the individual wasasas not boosted and was in isolation when the symptoms began to show. quickly person with the omicron variant had traveled to florida, most likely where they were exposed, so a community exposure in florida rather than an international exposure. >> the county is utilizing positive tests three people as well as a surveillance system through county sewer sheds to

epidemiologist who actually attended that wedding and then ended up getting sick herself. here is her story. >> i give people a cautionary tale. you know, if a group of medical professionals and public health professionals cannot prevent spread at a social gathering, it is just the luck of the draw for everyone. >> the associate dean of public health integration and an epidemiologist at michigan state university attended a november 27 wedding in wisconsin with about 100 guests who were all wearing masks at the church and at the reception except when they were eating, drinking, or dancing. quick thinking that i was at an event with very responsible people who work very smart, who we all did the right thing. we got tested in advance. we got our vaccines, many of us had our boosters, and we still ended up infecting each other, and some of us have -- i know for me personally, then came

home and infected our loved ones. >> she said she infected her daughter and had to isolate from her three month old granddaughter. she said she had a scratchy throat and severe headache but is ok now. meanwhile, kaiser permanente said alameda county public health announced 12 covid-19 cases on december 3, most of them the omicron variant. 11 of those cases are among staff at kaiser's oakland medical center. one work at highland hospital. >> of the cases that we are aware of here in alameda county linked to this outbreak, so far, all of them have traveled to the wedding. >> ultimately, eight patients and eight additional staff at kaiser were identified as being potentially exposed but tested negative. >> i just think we have to be a bit more vigilant. while we all have covid fatigue, the virus does not.

gusty wind will sweep across the entire region and by midday sunday, the focus will be mainly san francisco, the peninsula, the south bay, and by tuesday, it spreads again to the entire bay area and will be accompanied by cold air late monday into early tuesday, which means we could see snow mixed in with the rain and the higher elevations, but the real snow will fall in the sierra. in the sierra, a winter storm watch will be in effect from tomorrow, 10:00 tomorrow night to 10:00 tuesday night. we expect two to five inches of snow above 4000 feet. listen to this -- six to nine feet of snow. i will give you a closer look at this little bit later. >> nine feet of snow is a serious amount of snow. spencer mentioned the storm is going to bring snow to the sierra. we do not get too many level 3 storms in these parts, especially not lately. people are already getting ready.

>> hundreds of san francisco students rally today to denounce what they say is the school district's lack of response to sexual assault and harassment cases. our senior education reporter says the district acknowledges it can do more to protect students. >> all right, y'all ready to make some change? [cheers and applause] >> these students from different public high schools in san francisco say they feel ignored by a school district they claim is doing very little to address sexual assault and harassment on their campuses. >> there is a lack of accountability. there is a lack of transparency, and there is a lack of real action surrounding these issues. quick to during today's rally, students presented the school district with a list of demands. among them -- create a support system for survivors and teach students starting in elementary school the meaning of consent.

prevent and respond to sexual harassment. the district now wants to engage students in that process. holiday season, but for many, the holidays can be challenging. >> therapists and other mental health professionals see a spike in requests for service around this time of year. >> for getting a therapist who looks like you can be challenging in the asian, latinx, and black communities. abc's race and culture reporter looks at the lack of diversity in the mental health field. >> when you go to talk to someone and you bear the most vulnerable parts of yourself to that person, you want that person to really understand you. >> clinical psychologist dr. christine garcia says that often means prospective clients are looking for mental health professionals who mirror their identity and understand their experiences. >> as a female, as a latina, i have had multiple experiences

with each of those identity memberships. in my work as a clinician, that has helped me out not just in working with filipinos in the community but in other communities of color. >> but a lack of diversity in the field can leave new clients stuck on wait lists. a new analysis from the abc 7 data journalism team found it is increasingly difficult for latinos, asians, and blacks defined mental health professionals of the same race, ethnicity, and gender. data from the census bureau shows in the san francisco metro , white people are twice as likely to find a mental health professional of the same race than asian people. findings are similar in the san jose metro, which includes all of santa clara county and sand medina county. white people are one and a half times as likely to find a mental health professional looks like them than their hispanic/latino counterparts in the area.
