ruled his death a homicide. the newly released alameda county coroner's autopsy report concludes the cause of death for 26 year old mario gonzalez is the toxic effects of methamphetamine with other significant conditions as the physiologic stress of altercation and restraint morbid obesity and alcoholism classifying the manner of death as homicide on april 19th, alameda police responded to a call for a disorderly person in a public park police warn body camera video showed officers pinned gonzalez face down to the ground for approximately six. minutes and 17 seconds and my heart goes out to to the gonzales family. i am committed to a thorough investigation the alameda police. chief says, he's reviewed the autopsy report. this is information that i think people want to however, this information doesn't on me it doesn't get me to a completed investigation. it just helps get us closer to completing the investigation attorney michael haddad is

representing gonzalez's son. mario would not have died, but for the prone restraint that these officers inflicted on him while attorney at dante poynter is representing gonzalez's mother despite what some of the contributing factors may have been around him either being a toxicated or his his state of health. the fact is clear that he would be here today. if not for his interaction with the police. both are now calling on the alameda county district attorney to evaluate the case as a homicide and consider bringing charges against the officers. i just hope that the district attorney has the courage to do the right thing. he almeda county da's office tells abc 7 news. it is an ongoing investigation and they do not have a statement at this time. the alameda police chief says the officers involved remain on paid administrative. leave melanie woodrow abc 7 news. hundreds of san francisco high school students are expressing outrage today over what they say is the school district's lack of response to a number of sexual assaults and harassment cases. the students staged a rally at

amazon fire android tv and apple tv right now for to the latest on covid and today we learn the omicron variant has now been detected in santa clara county health officials say at least one person has tested positive while the variant was also detected. the county's sewer shed abc 7 news reporter dustin dorsey has the message now from county leaders. santa clara county health officials always said it wasn't a situation of if but when and the win is now yesterday we received our first report of a resident of santa clara county with the omicron variant santa clara county public health officer dr. sarah cody said the individual was vaccinated wasn't boosted and experienced mild symptoms while in self-isolation the symptoms began november 30th and the county sequencing system learned yesterday. it was in fact an omicron positive case the person with omicron variant had traveled to florida most likely where they were exposed. so a community exposure in

clara county 7 news. in oakland testing in vaccination clinic that closed earlier this week is set to reopen as soon as possible the site at franco-gawa plaza abruptly closed wednesday the nonprofit group called covid clinics as they've since been able to resolve some operational challenges at the site and have renewed their partnership with the city vaccinations will be free and no appointment is required. and announcement on an opening date is expected next week and as covid cases continues spiking across the country and right here on the bay area health experts warn new data shows young children and teenagers are contributing to the jump in transmission. that's concerning. obviously. it's a trend as kids under five are not yet vaccinated and remain unprotected abc 7 news reporter stephanie sierra a member of our abc 7 vaccine team is in the newsroom with a look at these numbers tonight seth. yes, dan. the cdc says since the beginning of our summer delta surge children are now making up one in every five new covid cases and over the past several weeks

kids have made up roughly a quarter of all new covid cases. it certainly raising concerns for parents about how to safely plan family gatherings this holiday season. since the beginning of the pandemic more than 7 million children and adolescents have tested positive for covid-19. both age groups not seen as super spreaders early on but new data shows that's changing, you know, the disease is finally getting into pediatric populations, and we're and we're seeing it there children under 18 now represent the largest per capita increase in new cases since the summer but ucss dr. george rutherford says in part that's due to pediatric cases already being low before our latest delta surge. is now being diagnosed in greater numbers in children and part of that is we have extensive screening programs in schools that are picking up asymptomatic cases and cdc data shows across the country more than 1500 children are currently hospitalized with covid a 37% increase over the past week rutherford explains that's in large part due to delta as the

higher elevations by tuesday tonight. it's going to be quite cold in our inland valleys with low temperatures dropping into the upper 20s to low 30s in the far north inland east bay low to mid 30s same range of lows down in the inland south bay. around the bayshore line upper 30s to about 40 degrees will be the lows highest tomorrow as it gets cloudy or cloudier only in the mid-50s about 55 to 57 degrees. not a very wide range there. let's talk rainfall late tomorrow night. the first wave of rain will begin pushing into the north bay between midnight tomorrow night and about 1 pm sunday. we're going to have some heavy rain spreading to all parts of the bay area accompanied by strong gusty wind and then later in the day someday evening into monday. we'll see rain expanding to all parts of the bay area again, so two days of drenching rain likely with strong gusty wind turning colder on tuesday producing the possibility of mixed rain and snow in the bay area is higher elevations rainfall totals here about two and a half to five inches of rain. meanwhile the sierra winter storm watches in effect from 10 pm saturday to 10 pm tuesday.
