this morning, newly revealed text messages show former president trump's closest allies wanted him to take action on january 6th as rioters were storming the capitol. congresswoman liz cheney quoting this text message sent to then chief of staff mark meadows from donald trump jr. >> he's got to condemn this [ bleep ] asap. the capitol police tweet is not enough, donald trump texted. meadows responded, quote, i'm pushing it hard. i agree. donald trump jr. texted again and again urging action by the president. >> reporter: and as rioters stormed the capitol, fox news hosts

laura ingraham, brian kilmead sent these messages to meadows. >> quote, mark, the president needs to tell people in the capitol to go home. this is hurting all of us. he is destroying his legacy, laura ingraham wrote. please get him on tv, destroying everything you have accomplished, brian kilmead texted. quote, can he make a statement, ask people to leave the capitol? sean hannity urged. >> reporter: the texts were revealed last night as the house committee investigating the riot voted to hold meadows in contempt of congress. he's refusing to testify even though he provided the messages to the committee. the hearing was not carried live on fox news and the channel did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the text messages. congressman adam schiff also read a text message sent to mark meadows the day after the rioters from an unnamed republican lawmakers. >> we tried everything we could in our objection to the six states. i'm sorry nothing worked. the day after a failed attempt to stop the peaceful transfer of

power through violence an elected lawmaker tells the white house chief of staff, i'm sorry nothing worked. that is chilling. >> reporter: the full house could vote as early as today on whether to ask the justice department to prosecute meadows for contempt of congress. in a separate development organizers of the january 6th rally near the white house are suing verizon trying to prevent the company from sharing phone data with the house committee. the death toll from the tornado outbreak across the midwest is rising as search crews comb through the rubble looking for survivors, people trying to pick up the pieces of their lives are now struggling without heat, water or electricity. abc's ike ejiochi continues our coverage from hard hit mayfield, kentucky. ike, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, mona. the search for the missing hasn't stopped here in kentucky. now we're learning more about the victims including a baby who's likely the youngest person killed in this disaster. this morning one of the youngest victims of the deadly tornado

outbreak has been identified as a 2-month-old girl from kentucky. >> i didn't want her to suffer any longer than what she was suffering. it was like i was in the tornado all over again and my world got flipped back upside down again. >> reporter: douglas says the ferocious winds sucked him and his family out of their home. doctors thought his daughter oakland had suffered minor injuries but tests showed swelling on her brain. monday the family agreed to take her life support. >> i am going to miss her crying in the middle of the night and waking me up. i'm going to miss her not wanting to be put down. >> reporter: the round of 24 twisters is now the deadliest tornado outbreak in the u.s. in more than a decade. the death toll in kentucky rising to at least 74 with more than 100 people still unaccounted for as of late monday. >> like the folks in western kentucky, i'm not doing so well today and i'm not sure how many of us are. >> reporter: but now authorities believe everyone who was working inside this destroyed candle factory in mayfield has been

accounted for. eight people did not survive when the building took a direct hit, but dozens were initially feared dead in the collapse. this morning the candle company is denying a report that employees were told they would be fired if they left the factory as the storm approached. >> hell like a war zone. unimaginable. >> reporter: homeowner marty janes considers himself fortunate. he and his wife were trapped after their house collapsed. once they made it out, his wife was rushed to the hospital with two broken legs. the couple now back together. >> what was that moment like when you finally got to embrace your wife again? >> oh, i started crying immediately. it was just -- i don't wish this on anybody ever, unbelievable. >> reporter: in illinois a federal investigator is nowing looking into the chance of an amazon warehouse which killed six people.

osha, which investigates all workplace deaths will determine whether safety rules were followed as the storm approached. a spokesperson says the company will cooperate. back in kentucky, these images are lifting spirits recovering the flag from the rubble of a courthouse. and one man is helping his neighbors by playing a piano that is still standing inside a roofless home. >> i don't want to face this storm or any other without walking with christ, and so in those trying times and even in the good times, that's where i want to be found. >> and president biden will be here in mayfield tomorrow to survey the disaster zone. mona. >> ike ejiochi in mayfield, kentucky, thank you. incredible stories of survival are emerging. we're now hearing from a worker at the candle factory who found himself buried under tons of rubble. jim douglas told our david muir he could breathily breathe with all the twisted steel pressing against his chest. >> i was at the bottom of the

pile, and all the rubble i'm guessing was like 15, maybe 20 feet deep of rubble, so it was -- it was cutting off my breathing. i was able to get my arm right like this is the only thing i could move. everything else was pinned, so i could kind of push myself up and get a breath. >> truly remarkable. douglas was trapped for four hours. rescuers had to cut the steel to save his legs before pulling him to safety. it was through a shattered door frame. turning to the pandemic the supreme court is refusing to block new york's vaccine mandate for health care workers. meanwhile, as covid cases surge california is imposing its indoor mask requirement once again and people dining inside restaurants in philadelphia will soon be required to show proof of vaccination.

cancelling classes once again today, after repeating what officials called an image from social media that included a specific threat. it comes just two weeks after the mass shooting at the high school. the 15-year-old suspect, ethan crum crumbley, charged as an adult. move him from an adult jail to a juvenile facility. >> this is someone that has never been in trouble before. because of his age or any other negative contact with his peers. this one isolated incident. >> reporter: that request coming after his court-appointed guardian claimed that crumbley is close to too many adult inmates in the jail and should be moved because of age. >> he could --
