this morning, newly revealed text messages show former president trump's closest allies wanted him to take action on january 6th as rioters were storming the capitol. congresswoman liz cheney quoting this text message sent to then chief of staff mark meadows from donald trump jr. >> he's got to condemn this [ bleep ] asap. the capitol police tweet is not enough, donald trump texted. meadows responded, quote, i'm pushing it hard. i agree. donald trump jr. texted again and again urging action by the president. >> reporter: and as rioters stormed the capitol, fox news hosts

laura ingraham, brian kilmead sent these messages to meadows. >> quote, mark, the president needs to tell people in the capitol to go home. this is hurting all of us. he is destroying his legacy, laura ingraham wrote. please get him on tv, destroying everything you have accomplished, brian kilmead texted. quote, can he make a statement, ask people to leave the capitol? sean hannity urged. >> reporter: the texts were revealed last night as the house committee investigating the riot voted to hold meadows in contempt of congress. he's refusing to testify even though he provided the messages to the committee. the hearing was not carried live on fox news and the channel did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the text messages. congressman adam schiff also read a text message sent to mark meadows the day after the rioters from an unnamed republican lawmakers. >> we tried everything we could in our objection to the six states. i'm sorry nothing worked. the day after a failed attempt to stop the peaceful transfer of

outbreak has been identified as a 2-month-old girl from kentucky. >> i didn't want her to suffer any longer than what she was suffering. it was like i was in the tornado all over again and my world got flipped back upside down again. >> reporter: douglas says the ferocious winds sucked him and his family out of their home. doctors thought his daughter oakland had suffered minor injuries but tests showed swelling on her brain. monday the family agreed to take her life support. >> i am going to miss her crying in the middle of the night and waking me up. i'm going to miss her not wanting to be put down. >> reporter: the round of 24 twisters is now the deadliest tornado outbreak in the u.s. in more than a decade. the death toll in kentucky rising to at least 74 with more than 100 people still unaccounted for as of late monday. >> like the folks in western kentucky, i'm not doing so well today and i'm not sure how many of us are. >> reporter: but now authorities believe everyone who was working inside this destroyed candle factory in mayfield has been

pile, and all the rubble i'm guessing was like 15, maybe 20 feet deep of rubble, so it was -- it was cutting off my breathing. i was able to get my arm right like this is the only thing i could move. everything else was pinned, so i could kind of push myself up and get a breath. >> truly remarkable. douglas was trapped for four hours. rescuers had to cut the steel to save his legs before pulling him to safety. it was through a shattered door frame. turning to the pandemic the supreme court is refusing to block new york's vaccine mandate for health care workers. meanwhile, as covid cases surge california is imposing its indoor mask requirement once again and people dining inside restaurants in philadelphia will soon be required to show proof of vaccination.
