thanks for joining us, i am christian z. -- kristin z. >> clara county announced today, are the most of any bay area county. alameda has seven confirmed cases, all from a cluster of a dozen kaiser workers who tested positive for coronavirus after traveling to a wedding in wisconsin. san francisco was the first place in the united states to diagnose and omicron case on december 1. abc 7 news reported dustin dorsey has the warning and growing concern about omicron from santa clara county officials. reporter: omicron is here. it is changing the outlook for santa clara county health officer fully masked, not even taking it off to answer questions, a concerning message after seeing cases rise worldwide.

>> when i look around the corner ahead, what i see is a daily --deluge of omicron. one of the most challenging moments we've had yet in the pandemic. reporter: omicron is now present in some level throughout the county, according to four watersheds. 10 confirmed cases. for unvaccinated. these numbers are expected to grow. >> what we think is going to happen is a big omicron search on reporter: top of delta. reporter:what can we do? >> we recommend booster shots for everyone who is eligible. reporter: only 44% residents 18 and older in santa clara county are boosted. early data shows positive results against omicron. >> especially looking at pfizer, effectiveness against omicron was about 30%. when you boosted that person, the effectiveness went up to 75%, at least.

reopened a walk-up vaccine clinic at the plaza, which recently closed due to contract issues with the third-party vendor. the cal osha standards board voted to re-adopt any updated workplace rules. it now requires fully vaccinated people to mask and social distance at work if they may have been exposed to the virus, but aren't showing symptoms. kristen: classes are canceled licker kawhi high school tomorrow because of social media post, threatening a school shooting. post circulating on tiktok says attack would take place at school with the initials ghs. it turns out the threat was made by a teenager in los angeles, the school references in that area. gilroy officials decide to cancel classes. cybersecurity experts eight social media companies need to do more to flag accounts that encourage violence and bullying. >> instead of waiting 24 hours before flagging that account,

this should have the highest priority. kristen: the fbi says it is aware of the tiktok challenge, which encourages students to make false threats. authorities say anyone who makes such a threat could face federal charges and five years imprisonment if convicted. jr: new details of emerged about that deadly shooting involving two tesla workers in the parking lot of a plant in fremont. today, the suspect was arraigned on a charge of murder and is being held without bail. an autopsy is set for today on the victim. covert -- coworkers say both men were working monday morning when they got into an argument. the suspect -- they heard the suspect that he quit. the other man finish his shift and went to the car up -- around 2:30 in the afternoon. pressure was found on the ground next to his car, key still in the door, shot in the back of

the head. fremont police say they tracked the suspect's car until phone before and after the time of the crime. the evidence shows he was at the scene when a happened. they followed his part to milpitas and arrested him that night outside 7-eleven. police found ghost gun in the car, short barreled rifle with no serial number, a bullet and shell casings which match evidence of the crime scene. kristen: we've been on storm watch a week because of the atmospheric river that dumped several inches of rain on the bear -- bay area. you can see conditions are dry right now. what we all want to know is did the rain helped the drought? sadly, no. in the new map released today by the u.s. dropped monitor, there is no change from last week. those two maps are identical. most of the bay area remains in the category of extreme drought. we also have nearly no change tour reservoirs.

sky 7 flew over this reservoir in santa clara county, which is 38% capacity. where we do see a difference is in the sierra. we got this video from the uc berkeley twitter feed. he received more than 16 inches of snow over the past 24 hours and more than 80 inches over the past week. let's check in with spencer christian for more details on our snowpack. spencer: crashing to the floor. we were blessed with a lot of snow in the sierra, the snowpack situation is looking a lot better. be sure your comparison between before the atmospheric river dump that so and after. statewide, we were at 23% of average snowpack before the atmospheric river arrived. now 83% of average, from north to central to south, the dramatic improvement in all those regions.

you might be wondering what lies ahead going through the weekend? no snow will be following the -- following the next three days. but more snow is likely to follow up midweek next week as well as more rain here. the forecast later. jr: a big step tomorrow in what could keep the a's in oakland. reporter: the long-awaited environmental impact report for the howard terminal ballpark proposal will be released tomorrow. that 3500 page report will be out at 8:00 in the morning and available online. the city addressed all the public concerns. this is a big step toward them staying in oakland. mayor schaaf said in a statement, this would keep everything on track for final approval in 2022. jr: a key milestone about to be reached, they released the document at 8:00, then what

happens after that? reporter: after reviewing the document, 35 hundred pages there have a session on january 19, 2022. the fastest time that could be approved is february, there will be lawsuits, there are always lawsuits on project like this. jr: we hear so much about las vegas. this is certainly great news to hear. what is going on with las vegas. is this even going to happen? >> there are reports about las vegas. they haven't announced an official site yet. as far as oakland is concerned, the biggest hangup is whether oakland could raise $52 million for the offset. i heard today the city has not only met but exceeded that free hundred $52 million number. that is good news for oakland and the a's.

-- $352 j.r.: after the oakland a's lease expires -- melanie woodrow found out, at the top of list, tens of thousands of permanent new jobs. reporter: the african-american sports and entertainment group announcing 30 k for -- 30,00000 permanent living wage jobs through the oakland arena develop project. as they evaluate what to develop at the site, they plan to provide meaningful occupations and gainful wages for oakland residents, including the most disenfranchised members of the community. >> is a profound responsibility to our community. we all sit here and scratch our heads, try to figure out where are the answers to what is happening to our young people. >> it's about public safety,

access and job opportunity. this process is going to enable that to happen. >> more jobs equals more safety. reporter: possible jobs could include jobs in construction, engineering, maintenance, on-site security, retail and management. >> there is a need for jobs in oakland, there's a need for job training services. reporter: that could include entry-level apprenticeships and working place mentoring and coaching. all the jobs will guarantee a minimum wage of $15 per hour. there will be a minimum of six jobs per 1000 square feet of retail space. >> we have here hundreds of acres of property that are on bart, on freeway, by the airport. that have a precleared environmental process and strong community support for development. reporter: when asked, the

losing arguments, walking the jury back to the most critical pieces of evidence revealed over the last three months. abc 7 news reporter was in federal court and has new insight from legal experts. reporter: legal experts say these closing arguments are art -- arguably the most critical of this trial, especially for the jury. this is the time they're combing through the most relevant details of this case to be able to answer this question, is it all enough to prove elizabeth holmes had the intent to defraud beyond a reasonable doubt? what would be your answer to that question? >> one could argue this is amount of lies, and a show of deception to raise money to pursue her dream of this technology. reporter: elizabeth holmes walked into federal court, one step closer to losing -- learning her pay.

this comes down to her credibility against the evidence and testimony of 29 other witnesses. >> i think of the jury follows the evidence and testimony they could certainly convict her. reporter: hagan says the jury was reminded today it is not a case of he said, she said but a case built on evidence. >> we have the documents, website, powerpoint presentation she made, the logos she changed, the changing of conclusions in reports. reporter: the government built its closing argument on simple questions like imagine what an honest pitch to investors would have been and then reminded the drake what was portrayed to them, with voice recordings to back it up. where is the defense poked holes in the prosecution's argument, alleging they were hiding certain details about interactions with pharma

of asian american women. kristen: what was said by one of the suspect says how stereotypes lead to the attacks. our anchor has the story. reporter: shocking details are coming to light about the six men arrested in a crime spree targeting more than 170 asian american women in san jose and across the bay area. any victims preyed upon in parking lots. >> this is a major problem across the region. county law enforcement has been unprecedented in the way they have worked together. reporter: i spoke to the supervising death beauty district attorney of santa clara county, who said primary suspect anthony robinson, who faces up to 95 years behind bars, targeted multiple asian women daily. prosecutors were stunned by what he admitted. >> when mr. robinson was arrested, we were shocked to find he admitted that he was deliberately targeting asian victims, on a mistaken and prejudiced belief that they

quote did not believe in bank accounts. reporter: the effort was spearheaded by san jose police. she clarified why three men were released from custody. >> not every member of this criminal group had an equal role. anthony robinson clearly was engaged in a voluminous number of incidents, but some of the other individuals may have only participated in one or a few incidents. reporter: additional charges for all six men will soon be announced. she says the investigation is far from over acknowledged dozens more unsolved incidents. her message to the asian americans in our community -- >> don't lose hope we are regularly evaluating these cases. regularly attempting to hold those who perpetrated these cases accountable. we know there are more suspects out there. just because they have not yet

been charged does not mean they won't be. kristen: san mateo police have arrested three women were theft and an store. it happened at hillsdale shopping center in san mateo wednesday afternoon. please say the suspects -- police say the suspects drove off but were later stopped. they found bags of clothing in the car. they were booked in the jail and face multiple charges. j.r.: contra chi sheriff's deputies arrested a man following along slow speed chase. they led officers from martinez to pleasant hill. police used spike strips twice to try to stop his truck, but he continued to drive on the rims. he gave up about 1.5 arrow hours ago -- hours ago and to the car. kristen: a man was holding a pellet gun when officers shot

across the country. san francisco unified is one of those districts desperately looking for teachers, especially substitutes. they are now hoping they can tap into an unlikely group of people. our senior education reporter found out who they are. reporter: john murphy is a substitute teacher working for san francisco unified. these days, with a dramatic teacher shortage, he is considered a hot commodity. >> we have a staffing shortage, 36 classrooms right now, no teacher, a record. we couldn't find anybody to hire or that teacher has gone on leave. reporter: substitute teachers are the ones who step in, right now there are not enough of them either. subs in san francisco unified are covering only 64% of daily vacancies. >> there's been a demand for subs in the past. there is more now. i would say you could compare last year and this year, maybe double the demand. reporter: the economic policy institute has called the teacher

shortage real, large and growing. worse than we thought. in fact, their recent report shows how bad it is. blue line represents the number of new teachers in the pipeline. the yellow shows the demand for educators. the projected supply of new teachers in the country will not meet the demand. denise that the stanford graduate school of education -- >> have an aging population of teachers, not enough people coming in to replace it. add covid on top of everything, trying to go online, the same aging population with real peers. reporter: san francisco is out reaching out to those experienced teachers who retired at least six months ago in hopes they will become substitutes. >> that is our hope. substitute teaching can be part-time. we don't need them to come back five days a week, even two days a week would help us so much. reporter: the district told us

joins us. the company fail -- accused of going to honor warranties and operating without a license. reporter: infinite auto protection is its name. it could be fined up to $500 million. customers we talked they waited for the company to honor promised refunds. they filed a claim with infini auto protection for a loan gasket. -- blown gasket. the company told her a $1500 repair for 20 -- 2004 bmw did not cover -- qualify for coverage under her warranty. >> i was shocked. when i was talking to them regarding the policy, they were adamant everything is covered. they will do this, they will do that. reporter: she continued to push for coverage from infinite, also known as opulent marketing. infinite ultimately agreed to

pay $150 of her $1500 repair bill. michael is eight deputy commissioner the california department of insurance. >> when you file a claim with your insurance company, that insurance is there, that is white paper it. it is not a negotiation. reporter: nina refused that offer, but says she negotiated $1400 refund of her warranty policy. >> i did not think that was fair. i was thinking at that point, if i could take something back, it would be better than nothing. reporter: rick filed a $900 $900 claim for an issue with this thermostat. infinite wood agreed to pay $300 of his claim. rick accepted the offer, but also canceled the remainder of his policy and agreed to a refund of $2062, payable within 14 days. both nina and rick are waiting for their refunds. nina says she's been waiting 20 months.
