celebrate the holiday and now we're getting a check of snow and the forecast with meteorologist lisa argen. so all right lisa, are we in for more snow in store? i know folks in livermore were probably surprised to get dusting yesterday, right and you know, our rain snow mix and we are in store for more sierra snow at least until tuesday, and it looks like by the end of the year, we are going to get a break the second half of the upcoming work week take a look at how active it is right now, especially in the mountains where it is 19 in truckee 20 at the tahoe valley airport and back home plenty of 30s and 40s have allowed for the inland valleys here from rumsey to clear lake to see a little bit of snow things quieting down in the north bay as well as the east bay except you can see right here or east of highway 84 and around 680. we've had some light showers but upper elevations. it has been all the mountains from hamilton to mount tam and mount diablo just near 30 degrees or below and so that's

why you see the pink there the white over on mount hamilton where still certainly looking at a little bit of snow in the sierra, nevada. it is just been all about bonus snow where we're picking up another one to two feet, but above 7,000 feet three to four feet. unfortunately. the wind gusts have been up to near 100 miles an hour at the ridgetop. so if you look at tahoe city an additional one inches and as we get down towards kirkwood 47 inches 52 around donner, so they've got some work ahead of them to plow those roads and it's been certainly almost impassable and impossible to get up there with so much snow happening and a lot of folks on vacation 39 in mountain view right now. it is 47 in san francisco 36 up in napa. there is a gusty wind around half moon bay up to 24 miles an hour. so it feels like it is in the low 30s in some spots. look how much colder it is in concord 10 degrees colder 15 degrees colder in santa rosa and

a look outside certainly festive out there scattered showers winding down this morning, then we're going to see an uptick this afternoon into early monday the cold this morning will be tuesday widespread twenties and our inland valleys this sierra snowpack 121% of normal for lake tahoe into yosemite 129 percent look at the southern part of the state overall. 30% of average and more to come. here's a look at the timing today and the shower activity 8 o'clock. you can see more showers and then we stop this at 4 clock where they're beginning to pick up again some moderate and as we go through the overnight hours, this is midnight another line of some heavy downpours. this will bring us into a level two to start early monday morning and then as we get into the afternoon, we're looking still more scattered showers we are for a bit of a break as we get into the middle of the work week. so this is today and tomorrow picking up about three quarters of an inch of rain redwood city
5:51 am
even mountain view, san francisco and oakland, maybe a third of an inch in san jose. so we get bob we're still pretty active into monday and tuesday some showers wednesday things begin to push to the south thursday new year's eve new year's day. we're looking dry for a change, so that will be a nice break guys today chilly upper 40s to 50 level 1 system into a level 2 system for your early monday and then it's all about the rain snow mix julian where we've already seen it around mount hamilton, mount diablo mount tam who knows even into the valleys of the north bay snow levels could get as low as 500 feet. i didn't say sea level, but that's the next thing that we would be looking at because this is really really some cold polar airheaded our way. yeah certainly been frigid out there. as of recent in seventies across the rest of the country. we're missing out but it's all good. it's all good. thanks, lis.

a well for many attending a worship service is a part of the holiday season despite relatively high vaccination rates in the bay area church mosque and synagogue attendance is still far behind pre-pandemic levels. i take a look at the numbers and speak with faith leaders. nearly two years into the pandemic. there are more empty seats in churches synagogues and mosque than prior to the pandemic signaling worshipers are reluctant to return some communities are still very concerned and wary about coming back and they're really quite cautious others are really just coming back and groves catholic bishop oscar cantu at the diocese of san jose said despite ongoing covid safety protocols, like masking up and proper spacing south bay mass attendance averages between 60 and 90% of prepandemic levels depending on the church. so we're trying to keep that balance of inviting people back and yet maintaining the safety protocol now concerns over the omicron variant ahead of the christmas holiday are throwing

congregations another curveball an abc 7 news data team analysis of cell phone information estimates attendance at worship centers is down 22% nationwide comparing january 2020 numbers to october 2021 in santa clara county. a 24% decrease in church attendance, alameda contra costa napa and solano county have seen near identical dips in attendance. i still think we have a long ways to go to be at attendance of pre-pandemic levels rabbi. mosha longer of chabad san francisco said attendance for services at the synagogue are only half of prepandemic levels. despite san francisco having one of the highest vaccination rates in the bay area. our number one goal is to people and create community, so it's been very difficult for us to do that with all the different variants coming out according to our data team analysis. san francisco. had one of the lowest dips in attendance at worship centers at just 5% followed by highly

vaccinated marin county at a 6% tip and attendance and san mateo county with a 9% dip in attendance my wish is is that san francisco and the bay area can hopefully heal from this pandemic the rabbi said he's beginning to see that healing he was able to welcome more than a thousand people to light the bill graham mama menorah in person for hanukkah this year. whereas last year the event was only live streamed in the south bay services continue to be livestreamed across the diocese in some congregations continue to worship outdoors to slow the spread as the church looks ahead to 2022 i'm looking for hopeful, you know in simple terms of a kinder gentler society. most of our counties with the highest vaccination rate saw more people back in pews showing vaccines or working and breaking congregations back to their
