killed. the young man's body was escorted out of the hospital last night. the shooting happened on around 430 in the afternoon yesterday. abc seven news reporter joiorter us with what we know. >> they don't know if this was a random shooting or targeted. he was in his own car and was iw uniform. he did get the officer treatment as his body was taken out of pilot hospital in oakland. it was near the bay bridge. the recruit was home from training at the academy when he was shot which caused him to crash the car. officers stood at attention and saluted.

the recruit was set to graduate and become a sheriff's deputy next month. a spokesperson spo department is heartbroken. >> we have talked to the parents and clearly, they are distraught. and he does have a sister and a girlfriend. we did all those things necessary. >> the department will likely release the victim's name today but wanted to give the family some breathing room. highway shootings are not out of control. they are asking for more license plate readers and surveillance readers on the highway. no arrests have been me been men shooting that happened yesterday. abc 7 news.

kumasi: later today, the alameda county sheriff's office is planning to release the name of the recruit that was shot and killed on interstate 580 in oakland yesterday. officials say he was on his way home when someone fired a gun into his car. >> oakland unified has 900 students and staff that tested positive over winter break and there are hundreds of positive tests. masks are required for staff starting next week.

kumasi: the search is on for the stolen dog, a service dog in san francisco. a thief grab some of the dog by the harness and took off yesterday. investigators hope a microchip will help track her down. you're asked to call san francisco police. >> and oakland resident says that she was robbed when she was taking a walk on sunday and says it was at gunpoint. she says two robbers approach or near lenexa on sunday afternoon and took including her id and she wrote about it on twitter saying that she had trouble sleeping after this happened.
