can actually see is only part of the threat. floating right alongside often invisible to the naked eye are microplastics tiny particles that could come from clothing cigarette -- and even the rubber from car tires and the way it wears off is when the tire hits the road it wears off these little tiny bits of tires. they're so small. they're practically microscopic but their effects could be devastating to fish like salmon and other marine life in recent studies kelly moran and her colleagues at the san francisco estuary institute set out to do. the likely sources of microplastics and also confirmed that storm water is a main culprit. there are study for the first time. revealed that microplastics were mostly coming from outdoor rain. and washing across outdoor surfaces, and they were carrying microplastics into san francisco bay in other words the kind of downpours that have swept through the bay area this winter creating runoff that literally pulls microplastics along with

it, but now with a better understanding of where plastics come from and how they're transported researchers are hoping will be able to come up with innovative solutions everything from introducing new technologies to changing old behaviors. remember the rubber particles several companies including one called the tire collective are engineering onboard devices designed to capture the worn rubber before it's left on the road and potentially recycling and researchers say limiting the tiny clothing fibers pushed out from dryer vents is another opportunity. if you pull out a rack or even throw some hangers on your shower rack and dry some of your clothes that way it's actually really cool because it'll reduce the amount of microplastics getting into the bay because they won't be going out your dryer save the base david. is also points to new efforts by cities and the state to cut down on plastic use. so the more we can eliminate single-use plastics and packaging and other materials the less there is to get into the environment and into

southern california along the central coast there, but this is a really in the upper levels of the atmosphere the moisture, but we still are looking at an outside. chance of some rain to the south of us, that would be hollister san bernardino county but for the bay area unfortunately things are going to remain dry. here's a closer look at all the cloud covers so mid and high level clouds spinning up from time to time and looking at some mild temperatures to start our sunday 50 in oakland right now. it is 52 in fremont as well as san jose. so all that cloud cover insulating us temperatures in the coolest locations are in the mid-40s out towards livermore. are in santa rosa, but the fog has been confined out towards the delta not dealing with that this morning seven to eight degrees warmer palo alto and livermore livermore. you were cold danville in the upper 30s yesterday. so a big bump up this morning if you're headed out earlier our air quality remains unchanged we're under that moderate level due to that high pressure lid

and very little wind affecting us. so when we get these drying trends and high pressure throughout the winter months, it just doesn't take much to trap those poll. and so we're looking at hazy skies when the high clouds thin out from time to time and as we look right now towards our exploratorium camera, it looks pretty good visibility wise you've got the clouds and then partly cloudy throughout the afternoon the dry pattern continues well into next week. we were looking at the end of the month for some changes now that's looking very iffy throughout the day today. you can see how the clouds are going to thin out. we've got more sun here for parts of the north bay. remember that system is to the south of us. so looking at the cloud. and maybe if you sprinkles along the central coast, this is our holiday tomorrow where once again we're in the mid to high level clouds and this system is going to be on the way out. so with it, we'll bring in a slightly cooler air mass monday into tuesday, but notice how we clear out after that. it looks like high pressure building in more substantially. so look what happens here.

we get wednesday with temperatures in the 50s close to the bay then thursday a few more 60s more sunshine. and then by friday, i think this could be one of our warmest days either end of the bay could be hitting 70 degrees. so we're talking about a lot of sunshine and into the extended outlook with the big picture here. you'll notice that the rain not even up into the pacific northwest so it is absent 60 today in oakland partly cloudy 62 in san jose temperatures in the mid and upper 50s in the valleys the accuweather 7-day forecast the holiday dry and pleasant with partly. mostly cloudy skies on our monday the clouds will clear out the temperatures warm up and we're into the end of january still well above average with our rainfall, but we needed to come back and january and looking kind of iffy list. we'll look into february maybe. oh, okay. well across her fingers we get it. thanks lisa. just dad if you have tickets to see celine dion perform this
