rams fans who are frantically trying to sell their tickets to the highest bidder at this point. reporter: a little something going on. sunday this place will be packed. how many 49er fans are going to be here? a little ticket trickery perhaps may have taken place to help the rams establish home-field advantage. sunday's nfc championship game is not even kicked off and already, we are hearing complaints about fairness. diehard 49er fans saying they were given the by hard by the rams front office, shut out from the ticket buying process. the rams are challenging that call. the team saying, the game is sold out, our season-ticket members bought up all available tickets during a presale over the weekend. there is no policy in place. presale caused the ticket shortage. not a huge shocker says barry rudin of ticket resale or berries tickets.

confirmed cases of the newest covid-19 variant. fewer than 100 cases have been reported in the u.s. this week, the free covid-19 test kits people ordered from the website covidtest.gov will begin shipping. customers should receive email notifications with shipping updates, including estimated delivery dates and tracking numbers. a new study involving over 2000 couples trying to have a baby shows men who got covid have fertility issues following infection. luz pena is part of our vaccine team, and she spoke to the co-author of the study at about their findings. reporter: last year when covid-19 vaccines became available, there was concern these vaccines could impact fertility. several studies have proven that is not the case. . we are learning getting covid does impact fertility among men for at least two months. this research, funded by the national institute of health, shows that men who tested

positive for covid-19, within 60 days of their partner's cycle, were 18 times less likely to conceive during that cycle. >> our hypothesis is that getting covid and potentially having a fever associated with covid could affect from out of genesis, the process by which firm develop. and other studies have shown fever, regardless of whether it is covid or something else, can affect sprinkler quality for the next couple of months. reporter: dr. wessling was the co-author of the study. . her team followed 2100 couples between 21 to 45 years old for roughly a year. 75% of them got vaccinated during that timeframe. do you notice any fertility impacts in women who got covid or who got vaccinated? >> in our study, we did not observe any effects of either vaccination or infection in

women. and that was regardless of time since vaccination or time since infection. reporter: they also did not find any fertility setbacks in men who got vaccinated. dr. michael eisenberg, director of the male reproductive medicine and surgery program at stanford, explains why the body's temperature is key. why is fever playing a role in this? >> fever responds to the infection which the body does normally, it can slow down spurn production and toxic force berm in general. reporter: dr. eisenberg highlighted men who get covid-19 could also experience challenges beyond fertility. within the 60 days after infection. >> there can be impacts such as to spurn production and sexual function too. we have seen links to erectile default -- erectile dysfunction. all of those probably contribute to the lower chance of pregnancy in the first window. reporter: according to this

study, the decline in fertility among men after getting covid did get better after those 60 days and many couples who participated in the study are now pregnant or had kids within that year period. these experts emphasized the importance of getting vaccinated to prevent these setbacks if you want to conceive. in the newsroom, luz pena, abc 7 news. kristen: i realize covid has only been around a couple years, but that -- but is there data for the longer-term impact for fertility? reporter: more data is needed. several studies point him in recovering after those two months of following infection. dr. eisenberg said there may be some men who could have lingering effects of covid. he pointed to concerning studies suggesting covid could reside within men's reproductive system. kristen: thank you so much for that information. larry: if initiation's have resumed between the oakland unified school district and the teachers union.

pacific heights, residents are dismayed and on edge after finding anti-semitic flyers placed all around their neighborhood. >> it was a small's -- a small sandwich bag and had a flyer that said, the entire covid agenda is jewish. reporter: aurora who is jewish and asked we not share her last name, noticed the flyers on a walk sunday morning. she picked up several scattered along pacific avenue. these flyers are placed at a time when there is already unrest in jewish communities, following the hostage situation at a synagogue in texas, and overall rise in anti-semitism. >> nationally, over 2000 anti-semitic incidents in 2020. that is the third-highest tally that we have recorded since we have tracked it in 1979. reporter: teresa is the deputy regional director with the anti-defamation league which tracks these incidents. she said in addition to san francisco, the flyers were also reported in chico and in several other states including texas,

colorado, maryland, wisconsin, and florida. . the miami beach mayor said the police are actively investigating. >> it is important to call out anti-semitism when we see it. reporter: the adl says they are aware of the group behind these flyers. they say it is a loosely organized extremist group that espouse white supremacist things online. the leader is based in simone -- in sonoma county. they ask anyone who finds flyers to report it. >> we need to make sure that law enforcement investigates and gets to the bottom of what was going on. >> the fact of the matter is, whether it is coming from outside or within our city, jewish people are still being intimidated and made to feel unwelcome. reporter: in san francisco, liz kreutz, abc 7 news. larry: lightening the mood, decent waves and beautiful january weather enticed surfers to head out to mavericks. who is catching this wave? who is dropping in on my wave? these guys are out.

kristen: the u.s. supreme court is taking on a case, challenging the use of race in college admissions. what are the arguments in this case and why now? race and social justice reporter julian glover has been looking into this complex issue and joins us live. we often say there are two sides to every story. this one has even more. reporter: it certainly does. depending on where you stand on affirmative action in higher education, this either came as a surprise or a win for you. a hearing the supreme court would be taking of these cases. those four and a guess -- against the measure agree the high court hearing the cases is very significant and has the potential to modify or eliminate affirmative action in higher education as we know it. on monday, the u.s. supreme court announced it will take up two challenges to affirmative action against the pope -- the oldest private and newest institutions. at issue, whether the race of an

applicant should be considered in college admission decisions. >> if the supreme court overturns earlier precedent, it means affirmative action in admissions is over. reporter: the case is being brought before private institutions factoring race into admissions decisions are in violation of title vi of the 1964 civil rights act, which prohibits schools that receive federal funds from discriminating based on race. >> we hope to see the highest court of our nation, once and for all, settles the legal dispute around race consciousness in higher education. reporter: a formant -- affirmative action has a long improved campus diversity. >> research shows these benefits include reducing prejudice, reducing social distance between racial groups, cultivating dialogue skills, encouraging comfort with people from other races. there are so many benefits. reporter: group californians for equal rights foundation believes the practice is not fair for

all. >> there is a penalty that is is disproportionately levied against asian american applicants, both in the harvard case and in the unc case. reporter: the group is urging the high court to nara how affirmative action can be applied. some are strongly against upending decades of legal precedent. >> people in general want diverse student bodies. and affirmative action is one of the ways you get there. if you take it away, it makes getting diverse student bodies much more difficult. reporter: both cases are organized and backed by conservative strategists and businessmen edward bloom, who back the 2013 supreme court case that gutted protection in the voting rights act, leading to nationwide voter restrictions. you may recall 25 years ago, ag, california voters voted in favor of prop 206, banning affirmative action and public institutions of higher education.

the dow finished up 99 points, .3% the s&p 500 fin fin fin f and the positive territory hired by 0.3 percent. joining me now to talk about the stock market is a chief investment officer of winans investment. >> how are you doing today? larry: i am doing just fine. try not to look at the numbers, and a lot of people believe the market is due for a correction, and here we are. what is driving the dip as well as the volatility? >> a couple of things, january sets the tone for the year, it goes way back, i've seen a back to the 1930's, you have the federal reserve, state of the union address, earnings, what happened last year and certainly guns going forward. when you take all that, and a lot of people were eyeing their gains in december and saying they want to take a little bit

off the table. that was the making of a perfect storm and that is what we have right now. the most noted thing, you talked about in your last story, you then throw in when is going on with russia, what could go on with oil supplies globally, what is happening with certain agricultural commodities that russia, in the case of ukraine, weed is a big commodity coming out of ukraine. you have all these -- wheat coming out of ukraine. inflation numbers are higher than expected, the federal reserve is likely to accelerate their plan on raising interest rates, not delay it. a lot of investors have been caught flat-footed thinking that whenever there is a dip and will get -- immediately bounceback like today. >> how our local stocks racking -- reacting? for the past couple years with all the tech sector do really well. >> last year they had a

fantastic year. when you look at how it played out from beginning to end it did well. here's the thing, at some point, i just literally did a video today for my clientele. nothing goes straight up forever. the valuations on stocks, including the bay companies, our record valuations. it is not how the norm to have these things pull back, not necessarily fall apart, pulled back to where bidens -- buyers are more informed to step in and buy them. every earnings report so far to come out this year there is a cautionary tone because of what is going on with covid on the dampening of the u.s. economy, we have heard a phrase we have not heard much from the late 70's, stagflation. a office and aerial of low economic growth and higher inflation --

and higher inflation. >> the market obviously hate uncertainty, new detailed some of the major unknowns, ukraine, inflation, omicron, all acting in here. what is your outlook going forward? what is a next you're going to look like? >> i think the next year will be challenging from the standpoint of the market, it will trade sideways. if you look back at what happened in the late 1970's, i am a financial historian and i find it interesting how things find a way of cycling. with that in mind, the dow jones industrial average went sideways during a very high inflationary cycle. i am trying to tell investors, you cannot expect the markets to go up 20 plus percent every year. certainly the leadership will change. i think commodities will play a more prominent role in people's portfolios going forward, whether they actually go out to

buy futures, contracts, cells or they by the exchange traded funds. the leadership in the market will shift. oil stocks that are doing as well as they are is a good example of it. the last thing we have a talk about, crypto. a lot of people so the argument they would be a hedge against a stock going down. it is not been the case, people want to shift back into gold and silver for inflationary protection in their portfolio. >> very interesting. i can certainly attest to the crypto not holding up as a hedge against inflation. i appreciate all your insights. >> my pleasure. kristen: a lost lottery
