vaccinations for school children. families would not be able to get a personal belief exemption for this vaccine. that would have to make sure their kids had it under this bill. thank you for joining us. ama: amanda del castillo has more from lawmakers and parents. >> the latest move to get more california kids it vaccinated. >> we will be passing a statewide law to keep schools open and safe act to require covid-19 vaccines for in-person school attendance. amanda: before the bill's potential impact on students, california legislature still have to debate. if passed, starting in 2023, students would not be allowed to opt out of receiving the vaccine. the only way to skip the shot would be a medical exemption. >> it is a gigantic loophole because it allows people for no reason, from their point of view or politics to not have their kid get vaccinated. amanda: this comes days after a

state senator introduced an act that will give 12 to 17-year-olds the ability to get the vaccine without needing their parent's permission. >> whether it is teenagers getting their own vaccines or truly requiring all schoolchildren to be vaccinated for covid unless they have a medical reason not to, that makes all the sense in the world. amanda: not all parents agree. >> we all know with omicron going on, it's evading vaccine. i think we need a choice. amanda: others say the choice is easy. saying the move to add the vaccine to an already required list of vaccinations will make a difference. >> 100, 200 years ago when we did in have life-saving vaccines and people died from preventable diseases. i'm all for eradicating. amanda: both senators' bills would have to pass

through the assembly and senate. dan: several republican lawmakers have voiced opposition to the bill. in a statement today, the senate republican leader scott wilkes said "i'm both vaccinated and supportive of vaccines, but this drew kony and proposal undermines parental rights." ama: checking headlines. some santa cruz county schools are using a new protocol to cut down on exposure notices. they treat cases as though the entire student body has been exposed. walgreen says the earliest people can expect to get free n95 masks is friday. some are already being distributed in the midwest. those free covid test kits offered by the government are going to be shipped out this week. people should expect to get an email that provides a tracking number and estimated delivery date. dan: a pioneering bay area brewery is calling it quits

after three decades in business. the economy is something we are focused on and the owners of marin brewing company says rising rents and the pandemic have left them no choice. cornell barnard spoke with some loyal customers saying a final goodbye. >> to brewing company. cornell: friends raising a final glass to one of their favorite places ever. >> it is a marin staple. >> this place is the best. it is very sad. cornell: pictures of loyal customers hang on the wall. after serving up craft beers like pale ale and thousands of other bruise for three decades, marin brewing company is closing its doors for good. >> it is kind of breaking my heart a little. i have been coming here for a long time. family, friends. it has been home. >> we have to pack it up and move it out. it is a real shame. cornell: the founders says

january 31. >> it is so sad to see them go. ama: in the east bay, antioch police investigating a deadly shooting outside a liquor store at a shopping center. officers received multiple reports of gunshots in the parking lot off delta fair boulevard. when they arrived, they found a man lying on the ground. witnesses reported seeing a car speeding away. so far, no arrests have been made and the victim's name has not been released. dan: the san jose city council is set to vote tomorrow on a new law requiring gun owners to buy liability insurance and pay a $25 annual fee. the council drafted the ordinance last june and month after the vta shootings. if passed, san jose would become the first city in the nation to impose these kinds of requirements. the national foundation for gun rights is already threatening a lawsuit. they said it would violate the constitution and punish citizens

who have not committed a crime. >> no good deed goes on litigated when it comes to gun regulation. we expect there will be lawsuits. that should not deter us. the good news is we've got a great law firm. dan: the mayor says the money that comes from the fees would be funneled into programs that work to reduce gun violence. ama: developing news -- firefighters continuing to make progress against a wildfire burning in monterey county. the colorado fire is 40% contained. it broke out friday night. evacuation orders remain in effect for some residents. a section of highway 101 is also closed. dan: 49ers fans are gearing up for sunday showdown with the los angeles rams. this is one hot ticket. the rams are trying to avoid a repeat of their last meeting. the faithful filled sofi stadium, turning it into a sea of red and it may difficult for rams players here place calls. ticketmaster said only

abc 7 news anchor dion lim the arrest makes her feel the community is a bit safer. dan: a judge said last week he would not had time to pg&e's criminal probation because federal prosecutors declined to ask him to do so. if nothing changes, that means the probation will be over tomorrow night. our reporter in sacramento has been covering pg&e and spoke to some survivors of the utilities disasters. >> pg&e went on federal probation because of this disaster more than 11 years ago. the san bruno gas explosion. a jury convicted pg&e of six federal felonies, including obstruction of the investigation. eight people died. sue lost three. her teenage son, husband and mother-in-law. you are worried this decision will cost lives? >> right. i don't think i am alone here. >> she is not.

a whole group of survivors called on the judge to keep the company on probation after they told their stories last year, u.s. district judge said he would consider extending the probation if federal prosecutors asked them to. but there office declined, saying it was not necessary. >> shame on them. shame on them. >> they are continuing to kill people. >> he is on the town council in paradise. pg&e's crimes earned his house down. >> if i was on probation, and i have been in the distant past, and i violated that probation, i would be locked up. >> while on probation, pg&e pleaded guilty to a felony for starting the campfire and 84 counts of involuntary manslaughter. >> the fact that the federal prosecutor will not take the judge's lead and keep these

people on probation so they are scrutinized so they cannot kill another person is a slap in the face to me personally and every survivor whose life is different because of pg&e's e responsible actions. brandon: the judge says pg&e has gone a crime spree during probation and will be a menace to california. pg&e is accused of felonies in the 2019 kincade fire and 2020's zogg fire which killed four people, leading to more manslaughter charges. instead of extended probation, the u.s. attorney's office wrote "at this juncture it appears the state courts are the proper forum." >> it is going to take years for those to come to a judgment. it did for us. >> who's getting paid off? >> obviously, they need a new prosecutor. brandon: two of the more than 70,000 people hurt in pg&e disasters.

if the judge does not keep him on a leash, they worry they may have more company soon. >> it hurts my heart. it hurts my heart. brandon: if nothing changes, the one day left on pg&e's probation will be its last. dan: brandon reached out to the justice department and u.s. attorney's office for comment but they declined. they have pointed out in the past that there is no legal precedent for extending probation. the judge declined to comment on the story as well, citing judicial ethics rules. ama: wall street rallied beating back dramatic losses. the dow was down more than 1100 points. it's finished up 99 points, .3%. the nasdaq gained 86 points. the s&p 500 also finished the day in positive territory, higher by 0.3%. experts cite multiple factors for the volatility.

the federal reserve does begin its first policy meeting of the year tomorrow. dan: let's turn our attention to this steady as she goes weather forecast. ama: sandhya patel will let us know if anything changes. sandhya: i think we will see some change but we have to wait until the end of the month or early february before we see that pattern shift. let's talk about the rain because we are still ahead of the game. i know we are in the drought. sfo, above average. oakland, 1.62. san francisco is that 114% of average. statewide, the snowpack is that 106%. all of these numbers i just showed you will continue to go down until we see that pattern changing. no rain on live doppler 7 but we are tracking fog tonight. temperatures anywhere from the 30's and some of the coastal and valley locations all the way to the 40's and 50's. visibility is low.

dense fog in santa rosa. half moon bay also reporting fog at five mile visibility. san francisco is not really showing any signs of fog but that will be changing. foggy areas in the morning. breezy to gusty in the hills tomorrow and a dry mild pattern will carry over through this week but some changes may be in-store. the shark tank looking good. air quality is moderate the next two days. let's look at the hourly forecast fog along the coast and the bay. also some fog towards the delta but as we head towards the afternoon, that fog will peel away from the coastline and everyone will be left with some sunshine but definitely hazy conditions. the morning temperatures will be in the 30's and 40's. coldest areas will be in the north bay valley's where you will see some mid 30's by the

morning so grab the jacket before you go. by the afternoon come upper 50's coast side to the 50's in places like fairfield. hazy skies expected. the weather looks fantastic for the nfc championship game on sunday. it is going to be 70 degrees before the game. temperature dropping down to the upper 50's. dry all the way through next week. monday, a slight possibility of some rain. a snow chance in the sierra. that is the computer model we are leaning towards. the european is not bringing us much through early february but look at what the gfs is doing. maybe a quarter to a third of an inch. accuweather 7 day forecast -- morning fog, breezy in the hills. we are looking at more clouds on friday. temperatures bouncing back for the weekend and remaining above average with the slight possibility of rain on monday.
