>> building a better bay area. moving forward. finding solutions. this is abc7 news. >> san francisco's district attorney about harsh repercussions following brazen retail theft/november. you saw this video. we have learned at least two of the suspects arrested have agreed to lesser charges and plea deals. thank you for joining us. >> at the time of the arrests, the district attorney was adamant the conduct was felony conduct and charged as such. >> but now as melanie woodrow explains, two suspects have pleaded guilty to misdemeanors. reporter: these are the images most of us are familiar with from november, as people burglarized multiple luxury retailers. but there was more crimebeyond union square . >> there are also multiple

cannabis dispensaries that were hit around the same time. reporter: connected cannabis was one of them. the san francisco district attorney announced charges against named people, including three accused of brutalizing cannabis dispensaries. >> these are not petty thefts. it is not misdemeanor conduct, it is felony conduct. reporter: two suspects were arrested connected to the cannabis burglary and have pleaded guilty. tracy mcrae says she's not surprised. >> it goes to our that you can come here and basically get away with everything. reporter: the das office says one suspect pleaded guilty to misdemeanor second degree commercial burglary. the other to misdemeanor trespassing. >> which is no different from someone being on your front lawn, where there is a no trespassing sign. and you telling them to leave and them refusing to. reporter: brooke jenkins is a

former prosecutor who was now a volunteer with the campaign to recall him. >> it is, that cases are resolved by way of plea deal, but the da gave a press conference indicating a strong opinion that the conduct was felony conduct and would be charged as such appropriately. which suggests that the das office believed that they had sufficient evidence to support those charges. reporter:november when th announced the felony charges, some asked if they could guarantee they wouldn't be reduced. >> judges have discretion in that matter. reporter: he encouraged journalists to stay on top of it. . >> if you follow the case you will see that when people commit crimes in san francisco, there are consequences. reporter: though some say those consequences were not strong enough. as part of their guilty plea, each will be on probation for a year. one served five days in county jail and the other 10, each with credit for time served. both are ordered to stay away from connected cannabis.

one of the suspects was also ordered to pay restitution. >> this was essentially a slap on the wrist. reporter: the das office confirmed the cases have been settled but has not yet responded to a request for comment. melanie woodrow, abc seven news. >> new details tonight on a deadly new year's eve shooting in san francisco in a richmond district. three teenagers have been arrested in connection with the killing. the victim, a man from oregon. police say his car and dog winge 15-year-old and to 17-year-olds. all from the city of richmond. they say a search warrant as well as the victims of stolen car and his missing dog. >> to the east bay now, where a couple is picking up the pieces after their home was stolen. the bus they were living in will stolen last week in oakland. today abc seven news reporter brian curry talked to them about how they were able to get it back. >> we have some damage on our

driver door. we suspect they were able to get in -- to break in this way. reporter: they surveyed the damage to their bus. >> for whatever reason, they carved out some wood right here. reporter: which they nicknamed the joy bus. >> this decal up top was designed by my grandfather who passed away this october. they obviously tried to remove the decal in an attempt to disguise the bus but were unsuccessful in doing so. reporter: but the only thing joyful right now about this bus is that it is back in their possession. they parked the bus in front of the relatives' house where they have been saying. last wednesday, someone stole it. >> my partner woke me up to let me know the bus was gone. >> it's different than having your car stolen, they live in this vsn -- this van. so they started to question whether they will have -- they would have their home returned. >> i was hopeless at one point, i felt angry and frustrated, sad. reporter: they asked for

help from a retired chp officer. he helps people find stolen cars. >> that bus will stolen because they knew how to steal that type of vehicle. reporter: he advised them to look in popular homeless camps in oakland and they found one on east 12th st. someone else was living in cited. the couple says the interior is severely damaged and their valuable items are known. we reached out to oakland police and are waiting to hear back. the couple says they plan to make repairs and use the bus once again to travel. >> we have some mechanic work that needs to be done and a lot of possessions that we need to replace. definitely some cleaning that we are working on right now. but it's actually starting to look better. reporter: brian curry, abc7 news. >> there are new developments in california's fight against coronavirus.

hospitalizations statewide have dropped below 15,000 patients for the first time in over a week. >> san franciscans who got the johnson & johnson vaccine and a booster can now get the third shot. the city's health department updated its guidance recommending pfizer for the third dose. >> tuesday, oakland will require people 12 and older to show proof of vaccination in many interpublic locations, including restaurants, bars, museums, concert venues, gymnasiums and indoor events with more than 500 people. >> in the north bay, the deadline for first responders to be fully vaccinated is now being extended. the announcement comes as a nonprofit health provider could be one of the first recipients in the bay area to get free n95 masks and testing kits from the federal government. hears cornell bernard -- here is cornell bernard. reporter: a new shipment of more than 9000 masks from the federal government just arrived to protect many low income families they serve.

400 million are being shipped to community health centers and pharmacies nationwide. hundreds of covid test kits have also arrived and could be distributed next week. >> this is amazing news. it's great. i think it will keep us safer and it's going to help us in the next step with covid. reporter: first responders now have until march 1 to be fully vaccinated and boosted. the deadline was january 28. dr. matt willis explains the change. >> because there have been high rates of illness among first responders, they haven't actually had the chance to get those booster doses. because you can't get boosted within a certain time after you've been infected. reporter: police and firefighters have reported high vaccination rates. but there's a small percentage of those who have refused. the county says they can keep their jobs, but must test weekly. >> we have 5% that opted personal reasons to go ahead and not get vaccinated at this time. it could be religious or health beliefs. health issues that they have. reporter: vexing clinics or plans for the next four

weekends at the sonoma county fairgrounds to help slow the spread of omicron. >> more than 20% of our eligible population has not been fully vaccinated yet. about 40% have not yet gotten boosted. we know vaccination and boosting makes any difference. reducing the chance of serious illness. reporter: appointments are encouraged but walk-ins are also welcome. >> we do want to get to breaking news coming into the director of the embattled edd is resigning. year ago. governor newsom appointed nancy f. to take over, serving as chief deputy director of external affairs, legislation and policy at the edd. she will be sworn in as director on tuesday. >> in the east bay, downtown oakland's only full-service hotel is up for sale.

the marriott city center has 500 rooms and is located on broadway between 10th and 11th streets. it has long been a hub in the city's central business district. so far there is no word on the asking price. >> a celebration at sfo today for the passage of last year's bipartisan infrastructure bill. and the millions it'll provide for long-overdue improvement at the airport. >> over the next five years, $250 million is coming to sfo to jumpstart upgrades to terminals stalled by covid. we are fighting for our share of a $5 billion pot for california specifically. reporter: pelosi and labor leaders also touted what they call the good paying union jobs that the infrastructure legislation will create. the airport plans to use new funding to complete the final phase of the harvey milk terminal one, as well as upgrading sfo's electrical power infrastructure. >> a lot more to come,

struggle with food insecurity. local leaders celebrated the grand opening of the community food hub called keina. it will provide free culturally relevant and nutritious foods to low income residents living in the new affordable housing complex in the mission bay neighborhood. >> you hear about neighborhoods saying no to new housing or no to affordable housing. if you do it right, it uplifts and enriches the entire community. to have affordable housing, to have families at all income levels, seniors, to have services like a food hub, that is a win-win for everyone. >> in addition to the food, the hub will provide residents with a place for family-friendly activities, including ones that promote food education. >> what a nice resource. the building that housed a renowned bay area business is about to receive a significant owner. tuesday, the sf board of supervisors is expected to vote on an ordinance granting casa sanchez's district building a historical landmark status.

tickets are continuing to sell for the rams and the niners this sunday. >> but you don't need a ticket to enjoy the game in a stadium like atmosphere. our reporter, dustin dorsey, shows us the biggest niners watch parties happening in the south bay. reporter: there are diehards and then fremont resident ray pena, he's been collecting 49ers memorabilia for decades. >> is our actual game tickets from the nfc championship game. reporter: but his prized possession is something no one else has. after an accident and cancer diagnosis, he lost his right eye and had it replaced with a 49ers prosthetic. he's known as the eye of the 49ers. with his niners in the nfc title game, he has his eye on something that can be a new addition to his collection. some championship care. >> i want to go to the super bowl. hopefully a trip to los angeles after sunday. reporter: for this weekend, he will be in the bay area to watch the game.

with record ticket prices, he and other local 49er fan clubs are hosting a watch party at metro city restaurant and bar in sunnyvale. >> you meet people from all over the world at these events, doesn't matter if you are from here or the east coast -- from another country. it is about our team. reporter: there will be watch parties across the bay area this weekend, including in downtown san jose. this location hosted the official super bowl watch party in 2020. >> it gets really packed. we have lines out the door before we even open. the energy here is great. we play the game audio. there's a dj. kids are out. it's great energy. reporter: great energy and great for business. after covid-19 changed watch parties last season, the 49ers deep run is just as important for fans as local business is. >> it is a godsend for the restaurants. we have been struggling for the last two years. to have this energy back so quickly and unexpectedly, it is great. >> if you don't have tickets for sunday, find a place to enjoy the game with the faithful.
