chilly out there, a big dome of high-pressure, maybe if you sprinkles. the high clouds, 48 downtown, san jose 45, and the typical cool spot in santa clara at 37. moderate air quality, 37 in santa rosa, 34 loma, and 39 in livermore, 44 by the delta, so much colder this morning, two to 11 degrees colder for most. and we will be looking at a lot of sunshine today, hazy at times, and we will see temperatures above average with low-to-mid 60's, middle of the afternoon and the coast is going to get cooler tomorrow. we talk about the wooden shift coming up. liz: this morning, the 49ers are in los angeles. it will be the third time the niners take on the rams this season. abc 7 news reporter amanda del

castillo was in the airport as they took off. amanda: the sweet sounds of the 49er faithful, fans waiting hours before they started their truck l.a. outside levi's stadium, hundreds lined the sidewalk. fans waved flags, health signs, and screamed, anything to get their message through the bustle. >> i want the niners to see that we're faithful. we're sending them good vibes. >> i hope they get the inspiration that they know we're here for them. amanda: that big energy amplified now that nfc championship weekend has kicked off. since two california teams are going head-to-head, the support needs to be felt across the state. >> is just the fact that they'er in california, that makes it a lot easier to get to the game. >> beat l.a.! amanda: from the tiniest to the

hospitalization statewide have dropped below 15,000 patients for the first time in more than a week. san franciscans who got the johnson & johnson vaccine and the booster can now get a third shot. yes, the city's health department updated the city's guidance, recommending the pfizer. starting tuesday, oakland will our people 12 and older to show vaccination at many indoor public locations. that includes restaurants, bars, museums, and indoor events with more than 500 people. and several developments in the fight against omicron in the north bay, a shipment of 9000 n95 masks from the federal government arrived for clinics. hundreds of covid tests also arrived and could he sent around next week. >> this is great. i think it's going to keep us safer and it's going to help us, the next step with the covid. liz: in marin county, first responders now have until march 1 to be fully vaccinated and boosted. the previous deadline was yesterday.

only a small percentage of first responders are not vaccinated and they can keep their job if they agree to weekly testing. today, sonoma county is kicking off a large scale vaccine clinic. it's happening at the county fairgrounds in santa rosa. you do not need an appointment to get vaccinated or boosted their.. it just started and it will run until 4:00 p.m. the clinic is also open tomorrow and weekends through february 20. there's still no word if teachers in the west contra costa school district are going to go on strike. negotiations were held yesterday over covid safety measures. the union once weekly testing for everyone and testing twice a week for classrooms that have outbreaks. also on the list, demands are kn95 and n95 masks for all teachers and staff, and if there is no deal, the union said it would consider a strike vote. you can keep track of all the changes in the endemic. just go to abc7news.com/coron

liz: here's a live look outside this morning, looking at the by the darrow. there's a little windy but it should be a pretty nice day compared to the east coast. we'll talk about that and a moment. firefighters in santa clara are keeping an eye on possible flareups after a fire left significant damage to the elks lodge. an oven is being blamed for starting that fire crews say they were called out to the building on martin avenue just before 5:00 last night investigators say two people were preparing food for bingo night at the lodge and it appears there was some sort of grease fire. one person had to be taken to the hospital for smoke

inhalation. sonoma county man is pleading for his beloved cat to return. d said tourist in his neighborhood snatched the cat and they now have it in southern california. luz pena explains a he pieced the story together. luz: for the past three months, troy farrell has been fighting to get his cat back home. >> she was my support cap. that was my friend, you know? that was who i have. luz: nevins is a neighborhood cat. she's lived in sonoma for years. troy says she is the reason they chose the house. >> every time we go to a window, nevins would run up and be like, i'm here. let me in, let me in, let me in. i love you. so that's the sign. that's the sign. this is the right house. luz: several years ago, troy adopted her. in october, after he came back home from a trip, she was gone. >> they still my cat.

luz: neighbors say a couple staying at and airbnb two houses down from troy's asked about nebbins while seeing her out in the neighborhood. >> what do you know about this cat? we love this cat. it's beautiful cats. luz: according to troy, he got a call from long beach claiming they had his cat but couldn't send it. the vet at the vca had -- animal hospital scanned his microchip. >> it's my cat. well, we're not legally allowed to house cats in this facility, so we have to give them back to the people who stole her. luz: in a statement, veterinary centers of america say they have legal obligations to the client who initially brought in the cat, and confirmed they're fully cooperating with the sonoma county sheriff's investigation. now the neighborhood has united to get it back. >> really ask our visitors, i hope you enjoyed visiting sonoma

county. please return the cap. luz: troy is hoping the couple who took nevins brings him back to him and her family. >> she means a lot to this neighborhood. a lot. luz: in san francisco, luz pena, abc 7 news. liz: a decades-old ban on opening new bars in san francisco's castro neighborhood is no longer. city leaders voted to change the rule earlier this week. abc 7 news reporter tim johns explains the history and the plans for the future. tim: it's one of the liveliest neighborhoods in san francisco. the for the past three and a half decades, if you wanted to open a new bar in the cities castro neighborhood, you were out of luck. >> it was the story of this woman who came to us with this tale that we were a little surprised about. tim: raphael is the supervisor of district eight. he says his officer -- office was recently approached by

devastating economic consequences. >> unfortunately, we have lost a whole bunch of businesses that went out of business permanently. but having new businesses come in, it's a hope. tim: but it's not just replacing the old with the new. he hopes the new city rules will offer more lgbtq entrepreneurs to set up shop. >> to the extent that we're trying to open up the castro to more different kind of people, especially queer people, it makes sense to allow some of those folks to try to open as this is there. tim: in san francisco, tim johns, abc 7 news. liz: happening now, nearly 3000 fights are canceled as a major winter storm takes aim at the northeast. this could bring feet of snow to some areas, one with hurricane strength winds. this morning, snow was already accumulating on roads in new jersey. you can see these pictures here. states of emergency have been declared from the carolinas to maine. the brunt of the storm is expected to hit from to coastal

new england, bringing blizzard conditions, up to 30 inches of snow is predicted outside boston, and it will be snowing heavily today. >> not only are we expecting large amounts of snow, we're also expecting high winds. and we're fully expecting wide-out conditions tomorrow -- whiteout conditions tomorrow. this is serious. liz: is shutting down train service for many major routes. and lisa, it does some pretty serious. your sister lives on the jersey shore and she can't even open their door because there's so much snow. lisa: they have snow pushing two feet there. and in boston, not quite yet, but they had wind gusts of 50-60 miles per hour. the storm is pretty far offshore. if it was closer, it would be even more problematic. but they are getting a lashing with the gusty winds, the flooding, and now the snow that is really going to break some records there.

it is intense from cape cod, where they're looking at snow on the cape. back home, it's quiet, a little bit of struggle activity in southern california. but a brig -- big ridge of high pressure protecting us today. started out with some lightning and the carolinas. now the feature is offshore, that area of low pressure, which is intensifying and will continue to do so, just getting into the act now in boston. but you see new jersey just covered in snow, and this will continue up through nova scotia, halifax in canada, and western new york, buffalo, that snowy part of the country, not getting anything, so really a coastal event. look at all the haze. 90 can see why we have that moderate air quality with the dome of high-pressure overhead. not allowing for mixing, but temperatures in the upper 40's for santa cruz. it was in the low 70's yesterday, i think upper 60's today. 50 in the cities, 47 in oakland,

44 in mountain view, 45 in san jose. an half moon bay is a 48. the shark tank with some clouds around and moderate air at 8, 37 in santa rosa, petaluma, and low 40's for napa, wind chill index at about 30 this morning in livermore. so it has certainly been cold, anywhere from two to nine degrees cooler across the bay, and some blue sky here from the golden gate bridge. so the clouds thinning out, but the air quality less than ideal. at times, you'll notice that hayes, but dry, offshore rains will deliver us next week. we will see that fog and temperatures coming down slightly not only sunday, but to start to work week -- the workweek. we will get some offshore winds midweek, but no rain, looks like the first week of february trending dry. this brings us to the 22nd consecutive dry day, with no measurable rain.

delays, traffic was lighter than usual yesterday morning when this bridge in pittsburgh gave way, swallowing a bus and five other cars. 10 people suffered minor injuries. this happened just hours before president biden traveled to pittsburgh to highlight his infrastructure law. abc news reporter morgan norwod has the details. market: federal investigators are trying to figure out what led up to this, rich suddenly collapsing during the morning commute, five cars and this bus plunging with it. >> our engineering team will look for signs of stress in the materials that comprise the bridge, signs of fracture, signs of deterioration. but i do want to stress right now those are just general. we have no information on this collapse. morgan: first responders racing to the scene to form a human chain, pulling people from the partially crushed bus, the bus driver frantically calling for help. >> i was more concerned with getting the people off the bus because i wasn't sure where the

bus was sitting, if it was going to slide backwards. >> i can't believe this happened. morgan: 10 people suffered minor injuries, but no one was killed. the pittsburgh fire chief said the outcome could have been much worse. >> a half-hour later, the rich could have been full of vehicles with commuters going back and forth. morgan: according to the pennsylvania department of transportation, 14,500 vehicles travel over the bridge daily. the overall condition of the 52-year-old structure was listed as poor. >> we saw today when the bridge is in disrepair, it literally can threaten lives. morgan: happening against the backdrop of president joe biden's visit to the city to highlight his one point $2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure law, the president seeing the damage and destruction up close and promising swift changes. >> across the country, there are 45,000 bridges in poor condition. it's just simply on acceptable. morgan: morgan norwood, abc

liz: welcome back. here is a live look at sfo overnight. the niners made their way down to l.a., a lot of people getting ready for the big game. before we talk about that, the home of the wars will be home to another lunar new year celebration tonight. last night, large crowd turned out at chase center for live performances, a dj, food tastings, and all sorts of entertainment. there was also a huge tiger statue. it's one of six statues that have been placed around the city. the warriors are planning another celebration after tonight's game against the brooklyn nets. and the splash brothers might have a sister on the peninsula.

liz: the year of the tiger is approaching and the bay area is getting ready to celebrate. at an empty storefront, we can see the famous golden dragon. it's more than 200 feet long and it is carried by more than 100 men and women. just beautiful. some of the iconic cable cars in the city are also decorated for the occasion. this one that we spotted on the california straight line is also showing love for the 49ers. the lunar new year begins this

tuesday, february 1, and the san francisco parade is february 19. and to kick off the lunar new year and the annual flower market fair returns to chinatown today. the event takes over 11 blocks of chinatown, with more than 100 booths of candies, flowers, and fruits. there will also be a mini parade starting at the square and a ribbon-cutting there are plenty of activities today, like magicians, acrobats, and land edges to open the celebration. the fair runs from 10:00 to 6:00 today 9:00 to 6:00 tomorrow. and let's get a final check on the forecast. lisa: starting out with those cold temperatures and hazy skies. but as we get through the afternoon, the 20 be mostly sunny with moderate air quality. we get into some dry offshore winds by the middle of next week. it's one to be cooler tomorrow but rain not coming our way, highs 64 in oakland as well as concorde, 66 in san jose, above average in san francisco at 63.
