denmark where it's sort of taken over. it looks like it's about one and a half times more infectious than the original omicron the cdc confirmed ba2. is through low -level so far over 100 cases nationwide two of them confirmed. santa clara county, but is it worse than omicron or delta, dr. deepak srivastava president of the gladstone institute's explains. it looks like this is going to transmit more. but so far, it looks like it's not more severe ucsf professor nevin grogan broke down ba2 in comparison to the original omicron strain in many ways similar each have about 50 mutations. there's a 30 mutations that are overlapping. between these two viruses professor crogan's team identified the section where the majority of transmission is forming within the b82 variant and there's a couple of other ones here that we may we think

maybe involved in suppressing the immune response this new variant may be more effective in doing that versus original variant experts are also calling ba2 stealth omicron because of noticed a key difference in its genetic sequence and makes it harder to track. it does not have a mutation in a region that makes it drop out and so it looks very much like delta on a pcr test so you can't tell the difference and that's why they call it stealth. both experts agree, i don't think we should be concerned every time we should real. that the virus mutates i think there should be some satisfaction knowing that the scientific world has tools that we've never had before in san francisco, luz pena. only on seven just days before lunar new year. an asian man is living in fear after being attacked and called a racist insult near city hall

west contra costa county school district will not be going on strike after the district agreed to improve safety measures against covid-19. attentive agreement was reached early saturday morning that deal includes k and 95 masks for students and staff members and weekly testing for all 54 school locations. also increased pay for substitute teachers and volunteer fill-ins. the deal comes as absences soared during the recent omicron surge. in san francisco the school district there reached a deal for educ. to receive bonuses amid a teacher shortage teachers will receive two one-time bonuses of $2,000 a year substitute teachers can expect a substantially increased rate of pay through the new deal the city's board of education is expected to vote on the deal at its meeting next month. all right, once again circling back to the weather and talk about a dry spell spencer the idea. we got a little bit carried away with all the rain we got in december and early january, but

finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. the bus was bouncing and shaking. oh, this is frightening. we are hearing from a bus driver who's on a bridge in pittsburgh as it collapsed yesterday. driver wasn't even scheduled to be working at the time and says he is lucky to be alive. and ntsb team has arrived to help with the investigation into friday's collapse that entered 10 people somehow no one was killed and inspection last year found the bridge to be in poor condition abc news reporter elwyn lopez tells us this disaster could have been much worse. the national transportation safety board is on the scene in pittsburgh trying to determine the cause of friday's bridge collapse. we are going to put this bridge under a microscope. we're going to look at the entire history of this bridge from the design construction maintenance repair all work. up until the day of the collapse the collapse happening just

it especially problematic including flooded coastal roads the rate of snowfall and down power lines. blizzard conditions has impacted air travel with 3500 flights canceled so far in long island the epicenter of the storm roads are slick and dangerous. the storm is expected to taper off overnight. and we do have an update tonight on the 700-acre fire burning your big sur. it's now 90% contained that fire started eight days ago in a remote area between big sur sur and carmel by the sea. hellfire expects the fire to be contained by wednesday crews have made steady progress against the rare january wildfire. evacuations have been lifted and road closures have been reopened one structure has been destroyed. in the north bay a driver faces dui charges after veering off a highway and landing on top of a storage unit. the chp says the driver was speeding when he pulled off the highway highway 29 in napa early

this morning. driver was not seriously hurt, but he was taken to the hospital where he was arrested for suspected dui. car had to be hoisted off the top of a 12-foot foot tall container on laurel street. it hits several vehicles and a trailer and a storage another storage container and ended up there this one. some out of the movies seeing a car on top of the container that was something else. yeah pretty on real to see a similar crash happened at the very same place last year. the chp says in this case the driver turned off the highway possibly thinking he reached his exit which was a half mile away. california's net neutrality law has been upheld by a federal appeals court ninth circuit's decision is a setback for the telecommunications industry in its fight to keep the state from enforcing it. basically it means california can continue banning internet
