it may never happen again. they have a long way to go to get close to tom brady status. liz: brady's network that it will be up to brady himself to announce what his plans are for the future. developing news out of san francisco. police are investigating a deadly hit and run accident. it happened last night on lincoln avenue. a car crashed into a building and when they arrived, they found a driver, unconscious. another car on the scene, but whoever was driving ran off before police and firefighters got there. days before the lunar new year, an asian man is living in fear. this was not the first time he has been attacked.

he requested that we only use his first name. he was picking up his marriage license. that is when he suspected somebody was following him. a man called him a stupid asian and punched him in the eye. he says his vision is still a little bit blurry and an 2019, he was stabbed and attempted robbery on his birthday. there has been an hate crimes targeting asian americans starting since 2021. >> 2019, i got stabbed. walk on the streets like normal. why do we have to hate? liz: he is also exceptionally

grateful to the group of strangers who tried to shield him from the attacker. he is encouraging asian americans to be on alert at all times. in east bay, drivers are hoping that today will be smoother than yesterday. first, this pickup truck smashec over the center divide. this happened yesterday morning. train service was stopped between west dublin and the valley. some freeway lanes were also closed. they found a possible incendiary device on the eastbound side of 580, near the scene of the first accident. traffic was stopped again so that the bomb squad could check it out. the device turned out to be harmless.

liz: police ca -- say n people have died in a traffic collision. a dodge charger was speeding on a city street and ran a red light around 3:00 p.m. the charger hit multiple vehicles. 15 people were involved in the crash and six vehicles. one person remains in critical condition. the driver is among the dead. there is a new subvariant spreading across europe and the u.s., referred to as stealth omicron. we spoke to experts who explained the difference. what might be making it more transmissible. reporter: preliminary data shows it may be more contagious than omicron.

>> in denmark, where it has taken over, it looks like it is 1.5 times more infectious than the original omicron. reporter: confirm that it isss circulating at a low level in the u.s. two confirmed. is it worse than omicron or delta? transmit more, but sophia, it looks like it is not more severe. reporter: he broke it comparison to the original strain. >> there is between these viruses. reporter: they identify the section where it is forming. >> there are a couple other ones

on strike after the district agreed to improve safety measures against covid-19. an agreement was reached yesterday morning. it involves kn95 masks for students and teachers. also, increased pay for substitute teachers and volatility -- voluntary fillings. in san francisco, they reached a deal for educators through -- to receive bonuses. substitute teachers can expect substantially increased pay rate through the deal as well. the board of education is expected to vote on this deal next month. lisa, we have been hoping for rain, but it does not seem likely will get any, anytime soon. lisa: we will focus on the weather. dipping below 100% with six

liz: a new study looks into a popular appliance. spencer and restaurants, gas stoves are the way to cook. now there is a debate about the

environmental trade-offs. the amount of methane that the stoves released into the atmosphere. >> we were able to quantify each phase of the operation. reporter: they measured the release and a more complete way using simple stoves of different brands and ages. they were able to calculate methane levels while the stoves were being used and when they were turned off. >> when you turn the knob and hear the clicking sound, there is gas being emitted during those phases. reporter: at good amount is released as unburned methane, equal to the climate impact of the carbon dioxide released by half a million gasoline powered cars. laura feinstein is the sustainability and resilience policy director.
