chiefs of the busiest emergency departments in san francisco. >> about three weeks ago i think were in the one 40's and today are we in the 90's. that is a significant drop in hospitalizations. >> at san francisco general hospital, dr. caldwell is still reporting a peeking cases, admitting 10 to 15 covid patients a day in the last two weeks. >> we are in a similar boat that we have been in the last 10 days to two weeks, where we are in the mid-50's and above in terms of patients in the hospital. >> a new york times analysis of cdc data found that the average chance a boosted person died of covid was about one in a million, during october and november. both emergency departments are noticing a trend of those coming in with covid now. >> the highest risk as those unvaccinated, the next are those who are vaccinated with the --

>> the city of stockton is mourning the loss of a fire captain shot and killed overnight while on the scene of an active fire, member's of the fire department and other first responders stood at attention of the casket carrying the body. as it arrived at the funeral home this morning, him and his crew were at the process of putting out to a fire inside of a dumpster next to a commercial building next to aurora street, when the veteran captain was gunned down. >> he served the stockton fire department for over 21 years. he leaves behind a wife and two grown children, i ask you to leave -- keep his family and the stockton fire department family

in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. dan: very difficult time, stockton police say they detained a 67-year-old man shortly after the shooting and retrieved a firearm found at the scene. that man is in custody. new details are being released at by the san francisco police department about a deadly shooting at the international airport. the police gave a minute by minute report about what happened on the morning of january 20 at the international terminal and released video of that incident. that is what you're watching here. it started with of a suspicious man. the man, a 37-year-old pulled out will look like a handgun, he was ordered to drop it. they noticed he was drop -- carrying a knife, he dropped the knife and reached into his pocket and pulled out another gun and stated it was loaded. they used nonlethal force to de-escalate the situation.

the man was shot when he raised one of the guns towards the officers, on the ground he reached again towards the gun and the officers shot and killed him. kristen: on the east bay went on lockdown when the bomb squad responded, and happened in the areas of f street between 11th street and 17th street, classes were canceled and -- at nearby live oak high school. other schools were told to shelter-in-place. a man was found dead in the area. investigators say he suffered sd from self-inflicted injuries, possibly from explosive device that was discovered near his body. a federal judge rejected a plea deal this afternoon that would've reverted a -- a bird a hate crime trial. they will be sitting's potential trials -- jurors for that trial next week. it would have enabled travis and

not wearing a mask. i saw at least one other one when he was sitting down and not wearing it, was he drinking or eating? those were all covered by the mask mandate. getting a photo is not. we can sit there and say this is another classic example of do as i say and not as i do. speaking of doing, and the mayor of san francisco was seen without a mask, the mayor of los angeles, magic johnson everyone not wearing a mask, and is getting attention. let's take a bigger picture, the fans, 70,000 plus fans in the sofi stadium, watching this game not many of them were wearing masks. if you saw any shots of fans in the stands, it did not look like an ocean of masks. it look like an ocean of bands. it brings in two the question the whole idea of the mandates right now. our outside games valid? our people following them?

the chances are mixed at best. dan: it is interesting, we do not know what kind of legs this tempest in a teapot will have. we will have to see if this comes back to haunt him as it goes forward. does the state to extend the mask mandate beyond february 15? >> they certainly do not want to. they want to see it move from a pandemic to an endemic. treating latest the -- latest strains of covid like more of a flu and cold season. we would be relaxing those, getting people back into offices, getting conventions back, but it will take time. there is another way it will come back to haunt the governor, right now there is a vaccine mandate in the works or out there for schoolchildren and there is resistance to that. the governor has allowed for a personal belief exemption, but there is a bill in the state legislator saying no, we need to

illuminate that exemption. it will be a tough fight, and the governor not wearing the mask will have critics saying what is good for one is not good for others. that could be the argument and intentions with the vaccine mandates. >> and might be hard to crack down and have a mask mandate when he is not wearing one. as you pointed out so may people and sofi stadium not wearing one as well. kristen: kaiser of san francisco has turned a bacon -- vacant storefront into a new vaccination site. amy was there today. >> 14-year-old first patients to get the covid vaccine booster at this new clinic, him and his brother could not come sooner because i got covid, that they are here now. with all of this space they did not have to wait in line or sit outside. it makes the patients and health care providers happy, especially
