liz: this is progressive democrats. it would have ended all private health insurance in california. today was the deadline to vote on this bill. they ultimately pulled it from a vote because they knew they would not have the votes. it was california's latest push for universal health care. it would've moved all of californians off of private health insurance and onto a public health care system. the bill need to get a majority of votes in order to survive, but it was abruptly pulled from the floor late this afternoon. the bill now dead. >> if it passes, cal care care e in essence replace private insurance. liz: use the chair of the health policy and management. he had been watching this bill closely.

he said it most likely -- most -- >> it the canadian system. public providing their insurance. liz: that would mean zero to people, no co-pays, and no cost for covered benefits. that also left open a lot of questions. chief among them, how would it be paid? >> it would be a very expensive plan. liz: that was one of the concerns. the coalition of doctors, nurses, and hospitals against the proposal said in part, it would dismantle our current health care system and replace it with an untested new system built on a shaky financing scheme that would cost california taxpayers $106 billion a year and higher taxes. health care activists say it is time for reform. the author said in a statement that the coalition included the

man about -- pacing. crisis intervention team members attempted to get him to drop the knife and two guns. the commander said that the man talked about the gun being loaded. he told officers to shoot him. > fired two shots. zito fell to the ground. the commander said that officers repeatedly yelled for him to put down the gun. >> he reached across his body with his right hand toward the handgun located on his left side. he then raised his right arm towards the officers. some or all of the officers involved discharged their firearms which can be heard on the body worn camera videos. melanie: he was 37 years old according to police and lived in

solutions. this is abc 7 news. dan: california is moving towards closing the largest death row in the nation within two years time. inmates in san quentin would be moved to other prisons throughout the state. this is just the latest step in the governor's attempt to put an end to capital punishment. ama: this move has angered at least one family of a victim. >> california governors said the prospect of ending up on death row has more to do with your wealth and race then your innocence. >> we preach justice, but we do not practice it on death row. >> the governor place a moratorium on executions. he is now moving to dismantle san quentin's death row by moving inmates to other prisons. >> advanced a principal requiring that population to do work but they have not been able to do in the current facility. we are pushing the facility out

. he was shot and killed in may of 2020. a second guard was injured. dan: a suspect is accused of breaking windows at a dozen businesses and buildings overnight in palo alto. marcus had a busy day replacing the windows on several stores on university avenue, including this furniture shop as well as union bank, lululemon, and the apple store. they started receiving court reports around 4 a.m. this morning. he has been identified as 37-year-old joshua palo alto. he faces 12 counts of felony vandalism. an armed woman on probation with several arrest warrants now faces charges in a series of organized retail thefts. san francisco police believe she

took place in the union square robbery spree back in november. they arrested her last thursday will wanting to a disturbance call. officers say she had three arrest warrants including one for the retail thefts. williams was taken to jail and faces nine charges including burglary, looting, and vandalism. ama: two seniors, both crime survivors met to stand up for each other. these two men, who are asian, say despite the cries being different, the problem with the justice system is the same. this story will only see seven. >> there is something's precious about seeing 69-year-old and -- it circumstances that brought them together are a bit alarming. the circumstances are what compelled him to bring a bullet-proof vest this meeting. >> asian american victims of
