leslie sat down with her brothers for insight into what the family is going through. >> it felt like a regular day. she asked if she had mail at the post office. leslie: that was january 26 and by the next morning, his younger sister had not come home to the apartment she shares with her parents. leslie: what made you feel this was serious, this was scary for her to disappear? >> usually, she comes home. she has responsibilities. she drops her brother off at school. leslie: the family launched a search and found her light blue infinity abandoned on a residential street that afternoon, keys still in the car. >> when my parents got there, my dad said open the trunk. i unlocked the trunk. i opened it up. there was nothing there. >> that was harrowing, for

sure. leslie: his girlfriend is helping in the search for the nursing school graduate. her cell phone is turned off and personal belongings are gone. they knew something was wrong and reported her missing to police. they then contacted her ex-boyfriend, someone she dated for three years until late 2021. they say he told him -- them he saw her the night she vanished. >> he saw she was there -- said she was there and left. >> we have not been able to connect with him. leslie: for helping out with posters? >> for anything. leslie: has he said he doesn't want to? >> we have not had contact. leslie: they say the police executed a search warrant of the ex-boyfriend's home in antioch, removing bags of potential evidence.

liz kreutz is live with a look at what neighbors are saying. liz: neighbors against the proposal on polk street say this is not a case of -- they say that neighborhood has several other homeless shelters in the area. they feel it is time for other neighborhoods to stop. up and help. . four blocks from union square, plans are moving forward to turn this youth hostel into a homeless shelter with neighbors in the area pleading with the city to reconsider. >> we are worried it will fail and fail all over our streets. liz: susan ross is a member of a group formed to push back on this proposal which would convert the building at 711 polk st into a homeless shelter run by urban alchemy. she says there are several other supportive housing facilities in the neighborhood already. susan: there is a big city here. we don't see these kinds of

facilities popping up in the numbers we see popping up in this neighborhood. >> shelter and transitional housing are solutions to homelessness. right now, we do not have enough spots for people who are on the streets. liz: at the board of supervisors budget and finance meeting today, supervisor matt haney voiced his support. others backing the project argued the homeless crisis requires immediate action in any way possible. >> we need shelter and support for these community people. delaying that shelter and support is a shameful failing. liz: neighbors opposed say the neighborhood increasingly feels like an extension of the tenderloin. they are concerned another shelter will make it worse. >> their people across the street having sex in the middle of the day and openly selling drugs. that is how our neighborhood is changing.

that did not happen. this is all new. liz: the proposal was passed by the budget and finance committee today after hearing from people like susan wiles but also people who support the project. it goes to the full board of supervisors for about. liz kreutz, abc 7. kristen: is this a done deal? are there any changes based on the feedback? liz: the neighborhood alliance feels it is the board of supervisors going to pass. the fact that it is a youth hostel makes an ideal space since it is set up for communal living. the city and the neighborhood allies have worked together for solutions that might make people feel safer having it there. if approved, the shelter roast start at 150 people and scale up slowly over the -- overtime. there will be on-site case
