it did not take long for police to track down the suspect. 25-year-old juan angel garcia was arrested yesterday morning as the chp pursuit leads that came in. he is being held right now at the alameda county jail. jean ransom is being remembered as a pillar of the community, who helped change lives. we begin our coverage with luz pena. she has been exchanging messages with ransom son. >> it is a loss that has shaken an entire community. jean ransom was loved by many, leaving avoid in the berkeley athletics community. >> berkeley high legend. >> he was a star basketball player in the 1970's, playing for berkeley high and going to uc berkeley and getting a tryout with the warriors. his best friend is not only remembering jean for his accolades but for his heart. >> i'm really hurt because of the civil -- simple fact that

jean and i worked for 20 years through athletes united for peace to combat violence. the very thing that we worked so hard to prevent for our young people, he has been a victim of. >> for decades, jean gave back to the east. kevin mclaughlin knew him as -- >> he is a committee leader and icon. >> jean ransom went back to berkeley high to invest in young basketball talent. his students were memory him as a fierce competitor and coach. >> he expected the best out of us. he coached our freshman team. we were undefeated that year. he expected us to perform at a high level. >> for many, the lessons that will last a lifetime are the ones he taught off the court. >> my mom was killed senselessly into thousand seven. he was there to support me

fatal incident in the past nine months. it violence that has taken the lives of not just jean ransom and david nguyen, but also jasper wu. >> highway shootings have increased in the past two years, tremendously. very little rest. nothing much being done about it. >> now, she says she is calling for action, pleading with elected officials to do something to stop the senseless violence. >> protect your communities. you don't want that to happen to your child, your sick of, your parent. >> one thing that has been discussed is adding cameras. a potential answer that has remained elusive. the problem, local officials say is out of their control. it is up to sacramento to take action. local hands say they are capable of only doing so much. some like the local mayor and city councilmember say they support pressuring the state to take action with surveillance cameras. >> i think that is something

a deadly police shooting. a mirror lock was killed as police officers served -- amir locke was killed as police officers served a no knock warrant. >> a second day of protest in minneapolis after the killing of amir locke at the hands of police. >> it is hard to put into words how i feel. i think it is important to show our support. >> his family is still in shock. >> never would i have imagined that i would be standing here, talking about the execution of my son by the minneapolis police department. >> body camera footage shows police using a key to enter an apartment to execute a no-knock warrant. a swat team storms in, identifies themselves and then kicks the sofa where he was

sleeping. officer mark hanneman firing at least three shots, killing the young man less than 10 seconds after entering the apartment. the officer has been placed on administrative leave. the police weren't says he was armed with a handgun, pointed in the direction of the officers. this body cam footage shows locke holding the gun with his finger on the side of the barrel, not pointed at the officers. it appears he had just woken up. some say not enough has been done to prevent these tragedies. >> we need to change how we evaluate the efficacy and effort in police officer activity across the board. especially as it pertains to no-knock warrants and use of a very limited tool. >> according to police, the raid was part of a homicide investigation. locke was not named in the

thousands are responding to this man's struggle to find out what happened to his money. some say they lost deposits too or worry it could happen to them in the future. how can you protect yourself? >> it seemed almost surreal. brian leonard transferred $33,000 from his account at wells fargo to his account at bank of america. he brought this cashiers check to the teller so it would be cleared right away. no mistake. he never saw that money again. >> because there was no electronic record of the transaction, the transaction did not exist. >> the bank branch shut down hours he -- hours after he made the huge deposit. the bank said it never happened. >> they said i don't know anything about it. there is nothing i can do that -- do. >> they are entrusting you with this money and it is happening too often. >> brian's experience is too common with complaints pouring into the consumer financial protection bureau. brian showed his cashiers check and deposit receipt to a manager at another branch. no one would find his money. >> the consumer did everything

san francisco is celebrating lunar new year today. sunset mercantile features ranchers and a lot more. it is hosting festivities for lunar new year today. with chinese opera, dancers and musicians and special merchants to welcome the year of the tiger. you can enjoy different food vendors and fun for the entire family. this runs from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on 37th avenue between ortega and quinn tyra -- can tyra -- quintara. more lunar new year's celebrations. a lunar new year's celebration was held at the oakland museum of california. this is the first time since the pandemic it has been able to hold in person activities as part of its celebration. the museum pulled out all of the stops for this, including a beautiful traditional line dance that we showed you. there was music as well as a healing circle to remember all of the victims of a api violence. -- aapi violence.
