at the oakland coliseum as we come together to honor the coach that brought the first super bowl to the bay area, john madden. he is bay area and football royalty. it will be one final time but the sports world community honors him this evening. >> allege and remembered, one more monday night in oakland. they say goodbye to one of their own, legendary hall of fame coach john madden. >> he has an indigenous leader to us in terms of how he led, how he pushes, and how he influences younger generations. we are here to honor that. reporter: and true fashion, fans tailgated before the big event. this group has been here since friday night. his death with heavy on raiders nation. >> this is official memorial and tailgate for john madden. >> for decades, the east bay was madden's home.

trend. one case turned tragic. >> last march we had a homicide where a resident went out to confront some burglars who were in the process of stealing his catalytic converter. the suspect shot him and killed him. reporter: three people were arrested in connection with the man's death. the seventh -- san jose policeie have provided equipment to three auto shops. you can go to any one of them to get your catalytic converter etched for free while getting routine maintenance. >> is a routine to market something identifying either the license plate from your vehicle, your driver's license number. reporter: converters can be sold to businesses who melt them down. >> the precious metals are worth more than gold ounce for ounce. it is tempered for these criminals to dealers. reporter: the cost to replace
