afternoon. those chilly days on monday, we are seeing temperatures above average later this afternoon. it is breezy out there with wind gusting to 25 in the votto. -- in novato. the wind direction has shifted, coming more offshore. that is a warmer breeze for us and that will help keep temperatures warmer this afternoon. already a warmer start compared to yesterday morning. 52 in oakland, 45 in santa rosa. clear skies, fog free. nothing but sunshine. it is bright and breezy throughout the day with a warm afternoon. we will take a closer look at the temperatures coming up. kumasi: san francisco voters have decided to recall three san francisco unified school board members. this after a debate over covid policies and district management. the recall was a big issue in

the special election yesterday. it was not even close for any of the three members on the ballot. nearly 80% of voters said yes to the recall of alison collins. 75% voted in greek -- in favor of recalling school board president gabriela lopez. she was the youngest woman ever elected to public office in san francisco. the current vice president, faauuga moliga, is going to be recalled. he was the first pacific islander like it to do public office in san francisco. reggie: supporters say they took too long for their kids to get back to and person learning and they say part of the reason was the board was focused on the wrong things. >> i saw the school board prioritize renaming schools over getting kids back into school. >> they should have been focused on reopening schools like most district were thinking about. reggie: we talked with lopez and moliga, who defended their

actions during the pandemic. >> sometimes people believe we can't do one thing while focusing on another. we were simultaneously working on enhancing the safety within our schools and regarding the renaming, that work started in 2017 with former board members who are no longer on the board. >> the allegations against me are false. reggie: some people wantedntednd whole school board recalled but that cannot happen. those other people were too new and had to have been on the board at least one year after being elected. the mayor releases statement saying the school board must focus on the essentials of delivering a well-run school system above all else. she added the school district has a lot of work to do and the city is ready to offer support as we all move forward.

san mateo county is dropping the mask mandate for most indoor settings like most of the bay area. next-door, santa clara county is not. the health officer says there is too much covid circulating right now. for those living near the county line, they will have to double check if their groceries -- where their grocery store or gym is located and keep a mask and he just in case. >> that may be a bit annoying to still have to carry one around. i think that will cause confusion. amy: today is the day the state officials have said that counties can allow people to go mask free and santa clara is the only county in the bay area not dropping the mask requirement. masks are still required across the state on public transportation, in schools and hospitals. most of the bay area, you can

take off your mask and you can see people inside working out without their masks here in san mateo county. gyms and offices, if you are vaccinated, there is no longer a requirement in place that you wear a mask. kumasi: indoor mask mandates will remain unchanged in san francisco city hall and other city facilities. city employees and visitors will continue to be required to wear a mask in those buildings, regardless of vaccination status. that includes libraries, recreation centers, offices and other service sites offered by the city. reggie: in a few hours, the white house covid-19 response team will field questions about their mask guidance during a briefing. the chief medical advisor to the president says the country is trending in the right direction with omicron numbers mostly decreasing. the u.s. is averaging little more than 151,000 new covid-19 cases a day, down 44% compared

war between ukraine and russia will likely affect american energy prices, a cost he says he is willing to pay. he pledged the u.s. would give diplomacy every chance. he is urging russian president vladimir putin to step back from the brink of war. if russia does invade, biden says it won't come without costs to our economy. he spoke directed to the russian people and did not mince words. >> to the citizens of russia, you are not our enemy. i do not believe you want a bloody destructive war against ukraine, a country and people with whom you share such deep ties of family, history and culture. jobina: but a full-fledged war between russia and ukraine would be easy for russia. ukraine -- ukraine cyber security agencies say cyberattack has crashed its mystery of defense and armed forces websites and two of its largest state banks, a possible sign of more to come.

drew: we are checking our winds because this is the story of today. the wind has switched over the past couple of days. they were on shore keeping us cool and comfortable but this morning they are turning offshore, meaning they are coming from the northeast out to the ocean. you can see the wind is pretty active in the hills right now, anywhere from 20 to 35 miles per southern california the last 24 hours actually saw some rain and even some hail and snow, six to nine inches. that storm system now pushing over to arizona but for us it is keeping that wind direction out of the north and northeast, causing us to have offshore wind. the wind remains active today, 30 miles per hour in our strongest spots and the wind continues in the overnight hours so overnight, temperatures remain elevated once again. the big story today, it is breezy and bright and a warmer

the mask mandate has been lifted. old habits die hard or maybe some people aren't ready yet. we have seen plenty of people going in with masks on. that's ok too, but the requirement has been lifted, at least in this county. five miles from here, you do have to wear a mask. we are on the line that divides this issue. in san mateo county, you can go mask free in public places if you are vaccinated, like gyms and grocery stores but in santa clara county, you still have to wear one. the mayor says she has to see numbers come down more before she will lift the mandate. >> that may be a littl annoying, you still have to carry one around if you have to go do some shopping by stanford and put your mask on. i think that will cause confusion. amy:amy:amy:amy:amy:amy:am

san francisco voters could be asked in the june primary to change the city recall rules. a proposal to the board of supervisors just passed that would change the window. recall petitions concurrently start six months after an official has taken office. this proposal would push it to 12 months. also a petition could not be submitted within a year of a regularly scheduled election. the proposal applies to several positions, including the school board and the da. kumasi: the san francisco police commission is excited to talk about the random of understanding -- the memorandum of understanding. the san francisco police chief was to change the deal with the police department that it has, with the district attorneys office, making it the lead investigator for use of force incidents. chief scott says prosecutors are not sharing information with police and are violating the mou. he could turn to another agency for investigations. a spokesperson for the das office says the mou expires in a

week. reggie: alec baldwin is being sued by the family of halyna hutchins, the cinematographer who was killed on the set of the film, rust. she died when a handgun baldwin was holding went off. jobina: there is no one -- there is no amount of money specified in the wrongful death lawsuit, but the lawsuit names several crewmembers, producers and alec baldwin. it claims the actor recklessly shot and killed alina hutchins on the set. according to the filing, they are accused of aggressive cost-cutting practices, endangering the cast and crew. it also says baldwin and the defendants failed to perform industry-standard safety checks and follow basic gun safety rules. >> there are many people culpable but esther baldwin was the person holding the weapon that but for him shooting, she would not have died. jobina: lawyers revealed

were going to be cooked up. luz: the couple jumped from the sixth floor balcony to the fifth floor, where an oakland firefighter helped them down the ladder. >> i'm about three minutes away from getting burnt. it was that close. luz: on the ground, about 60 firefighters responding to the oakland high-rise blaze with multiple residents screaming for help. >> we had residents on the balconies. at the same time we had other rescues and grabs we had to make, civilians who were trapped inside the smoke-filled building. it was nothing but the dedication and the -- the heart of these personnel. luz: flames were coming from inside a unit between the fifth and seventh floor. >> the fire at this point is still under investigation that we know the bulk of the fire was contained to a single unit. luz: two residents and three firefighters were transported to local hospitals for smoke inhalation. 15 residents are displaced. >> looking at the building right
