coming up tomorrow, coming up in a few minutes. reggie: thank you. there is a developing effort to keep russia from invading ukraine paired president biden has accepted an invitation to a summit with putin as long as russia design bay. they're pushing to stop russia before it becomes more urgent. jobina: president biden and president putin tentatively agreed to the summit. antony blinken is set to layout the summit later this week. u.s. officials worry that russia could seize on the situation as a pretext for war. sources tell abc news russian commanders have given orders to plan to invade. >> the u.s. believes putin has told his tactical leaders to prepare to invade, ready to conduct an attack. that is very different from him

making the actual decision and saying, "you will attack." jobina: meanwhile, the kremlin announcing its troops that have been conducting drills in belarus near ukraine will stay. in a letter to the u.n., the u.s. claims they have credible information saying moscow is making lists of ukrainians to be killed or sent to camps following a military occupation. kumasi: as you can imagine, this is such a stressful situation for people in the bay area who have file and friends living in the ukraine. here is a reporter live at palo alto, or a nonprofit is doing the best it can to stay connected. reporter: good morning. that is certainly a great way to put it. the best they can and hoping for the best. that is the current situation that they are trying to grasp right now in the south bay. many members of this nonprofit and over ukraine are actually from ukraine. they have plans to go back

there, but those plans are of is looking a little uncertain right now, as they wait to see what happens as the situation unfolds. abc 7 spoke with members of the nonprofit group over the weekend, many of them saying they have family in ukraine and they don't know what is going to happen next. some say the anxiety of a possible attack is nothing new, but with troops lined up on the border, the fear of an invasion is starting to feel more real. they say right now, they are just try to keep communication going with their family and loved ones. they say they want to be able to help as best they pause -- as best as possible, encase tensions lead to an attack. >> we have parents, relatives, friends, and we have to return to ukraine. >> i'm very word about that. we have talked about possible scenarios in which they need to relocate. reporter: talking about family members they have back over and ukraine. the most difficult part of the situation here in the bay area is the sense of feeling disconnected from their loved ones while they are back over and ukraine. some of the members of this nonprofit have families here in

a possible overdose, but the medical examiner declared the death suspicious. no other information was released. kumasi: today, parents of one oakland public school be protesting their decision to close the public school. this is merely one of bash this is one of nearly a dozen schools to be closed. today's protest is it 2 p.m. at the intersection of g street and macarthur boulevard, next to parker. reggie: if you take part, caltrain, vta, you will notice how few people are writing now. the bay area has been one of the slowest metro areas in the nation to see passengers come back. here's a closer look at the uncertain future and the positive sign we saw over the weekend. gloria: the pandemic of course forcing many to work from home. public transit riders in the bay area have not returned in the same numbers as before the

russia's senate is expected to discuss the situation in ukraine. meanwhile, there is new potential hope diplomacy. president biden and putin have agreed to a proposed summit, but with one major condition. it can only happen if russia does not invade ukraine. president biden met with his national security team at the white house. many of his advisers recently returned from overseas, or they tried to reassure u.s. allies. intelligence officials tell abc news that they believe russian tactical commanders have been given orders and plan to invade. >> we are talking about the potential for war in europe. let's really take a moment to understand the significance of what we are talking about. it has been over 70 years, and through those years, as i mentioned yesterday, there has been peace and security. we are talking about the real possibility of war in europe. kumasi: more than 150,000 russian troops are thought to be

surrounding ukraine. u.s. officials claim half of those forces are innotech positions. reggie: watching this very carefully. people from ukraine living in the bay area are growing increasingly worried about what could have at a friends and family. one of our reporters is here with what they're saying. >> good morning. people here in the south bay, members of this nonprofit group are waking up today more worried than ever before for their home country and their loved ones still over in ukraine. they say right now, the threats of an imminent attack are making them worried about what is going to possibly happen next to them. abc 7 news spoke with members of the nonprofit over the weekend. many of them are saying fear, anxiety, sorrow, and stress are some of the many emotions they are feeling right now. members have family and friends still in ukraine and they told us they are unsure what will happen to them if russia does invade. others are actually ukraine
