and saturday, we will detail that, coming up. reggie: a second round of peace talks are underway between ukraine and russia and any minute now, president biden is set to start a meeting with leaders from australia, india and japan. this as russia ramps up attacks across ukraine. kumasi: and russia has just announced it is freezing the delivery of russian-made spaceship rockets to the u.s. they say, in this situation, we can no longer supply the u.s. with our rocket engines, which are best in the world. let them fly on something else, like their rooms or whatever. there is intelligence this morning that russia has surrounded five major ukrainian cities, but the huge russian convoy making its way towards kyiv appears to have stalled. this is because some believe ukrainian resistance has been stronger than russia expected.

russia has also been intensifying attacks against civilian areas. >> these are not military targets. their places were -- where people work and families live. it is shameful. kumasi: more than 2000 casualties have been reported since the start of the invasion. last night, the u.s. house overwhelmingly approved a nonbinding resolution to support ukraine and expressed that america will never recognize any russian leader or government installed through the use of force. kumasi: new this morning, united nations refugee agencies now say one million people have fled ukraine since the russia invasion began. that's the largest exodus of the century, and it is setting off action here. abc seven news reporter lori rodriguez is live, finding out why they are in urgent need right now. gloria? gloria: it's unclear how many

refugees will arrive in the bay area. local nonprofits are asking for help from volunteers. the director of refugee and immigrant transitions says they are getting ready to welcome ukrainian refugees to the bay area. monica is a volunteer with nova ukraine, the nonprofit is helping organize volunteers. she says they will need to help folks with life in the u.s., anything from getting a drivers license to getting kids enrolled in school. she says right now, the most urgent need is for immigration lawyers willing to work pro bono. >> ideally, these firms a a a attorneys are russian or ukrainian speaking, as a lot of the documentation will be in russian or ukrainian and a lot of the families will have somewhat of a language barrier. kumasi: housing is another big need. she is asking anyone willing to house families or children orphaned by the war to reach

in santa clara county to unveil a plan to treat homelessness and mental illness since california -- in california. officials say many of those in need of care are experiencing homelessness. in san francisco, there is a new coalition trying to tackle homelessness. this is a topic we are focused on as we work to build a better bay area. the initiative brings together 32 different public and private organizations and claims to be unlike anything the city has tried before. nonprofit group is vision alliance and has one vision, to solve homelessness in san francisco. the group wants to j change local and state laws to build more housing and drive down the cost to build it. one of the projects is with the salvation army, hoping to add 615 transitional housing beds. >> we have to continue to grapple with mental illness, poverty, and other root causes

reggie: happening now, half a million people around sydney, australia being told to evacuate because of life-threatening flash flooding. 76 evacuation orders have been issued in the country of new south wales. the torrential rain is expected to continue with the heaviest precipitation over the next five days. major flooding is expected along several rivers in the sydney area. drew: and some showers here this morning in the north bay right now, where much of the action will stay for the morning.

back here, and mayors and chambers of commerce are hoping that more companies will do what google is doing, requiring employees to turn to the office at least three danes a week -- at least three days a week. mayor london breed is making a push to bring the downtown back to life. she says she is working with business leaders to bring employees back and is hoping to make an announcement soon about their collaboration. though the managers in the city say this is not a safety issue. people should not be using health and safety concerns as the reason to stay home. >> we do really think this is an employer conversation. our calculus is that buildings are ready, buildings are safe and have been for the past year and a half. now we just have people to have the right mentality and have employers say, it is time to come back to the city. amy: mayors like what they are starting to see, in san francisco, sf travel reports that bookings are up 20% since december, and june is expected to be the busiest month. but they want to see more.
