engaging in mail fraud. she went missing while jogging in november of 2016. she was found 22 days later along i-5 and yolo county. she told police two women kidnapped her at gunpoint. authorities say they determined that she made it all up. injuring herself as a cover story and was actually staying with an ex-boyfriend in southern california while she was missing. if convicted, she faces five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. >> melissa spent sunday agonizing over the thought that she may never see her son again after he was kidnapped when a stranger stole her car. thank for that, the two-year-old was found save and the suspect was arrested. >> a traumatic appreciate things a bit more than you did before. melissa is thankful she still has her son to love on after he was abducted by a stranger who

are erected in east bay. we drop somehow. the thunder threat is over as the system continues to slide southward, paralleling the coast, moving toward southern california. here is the area of low pressure. the moisture is wrapping around. we will continue to see some showers. another system will drop to the north. there will be more showers into the forecast. 50's for most of you. look at this beautiful view. high clouds, post sunset view. waves of showers, the wind ramping up. cool the next two days, a possibility of snow and colder nights are coming your way. the possibility of hail, strong wind at the coast and around the bay and there is is no chance right around 2500 feet. tomorrow morning, we will see a few snow showers. 7:00 a.m. in the south bay but not a widespread rain event and then you get this long break

>> the update from the abc 7 high team on the case of two college students from the bay area serving life sentences for killing an italian police officer. they begin their presentation today in rome, pleading for leniency during the appeals trial. they argue elder did not know the victim was a police officer. he was free clothes and carried no badge or gun during the deadly confrontation in july of 2019. elder says he thought the officer was a drug dealer. attorneys for the other man convicted in this case are scheduled to address the court next week. a verdict is expected in two weeks. >> what what what what what better bay area. >> out of all the districts in san francisco, this has the majority of the youth. as you look around, this is the normalcy they see on an everyday basis. >> cleaning up the tenderloin. it is a lot of

seems to be the environment. >> don't come down here. you should have stayed up there. they dropped him off from the hospital. he still has all the stuff on. it is a struggle to make it here. this is where the less fortunate and up. out of all the districts in san francisco, the tenderloin has the majority of the youth. over 3500 children in the tenderloin. far more than any other district. as you look around, this is the normalcy they see on an everyday basis. people travel the streets as safe as possible. we understand that sometimes they have to encounter traumatic situations where someone might be using drugs or something similar to that. what they are trained to do is block those traumatic situations

one might encounter along the route. sometimes we partner up two or three captains side-by-side, shoulder to shoulder to block something we would deem traumatic for a child or a senior to see during their commute. >> this downed -- this goes down here. the eyes open. the tenderloin has been experiencing some behavior that is inappropriate. we want the children to have a fighting chance to become successful as teenagers and adults have a peaceful way of seeing things and not be disappointed -- distorted because they have been exposed to all of that inappropriate behavior. we want to clear the space where the guests don't have tents, blocking the sidewalk. we want to make sure they can walk to work without being blocked off. we don't say move. we say is there a different place you can do that because we have children coming through here and pedestrians going to work. could you not do that here?

we are not police or security guards. we don't arrest or pressure anyone. this trait was cluttered with drug dealing and homelessness and all of that. they are here to protect the block from illegal activity and all of this. what ever does not block the block. this could be the tenderloin if enough resources, commitment, if everybody was on the same page, this is what could be. >> it is amazing. so powerful. it is easy to what is just look at what is going on in the tenderloin but to look at what is going right, there are good, decent people working hard to make it better. there are those that have children walking to school in that environment. i commend those people for working so hard.
