in oakley and nearly 90 volunteers gathered at the streets of brentwood to cover five locations in contra, costa county. foundation founded by mark class after his daughter polly went missing provided cutting-edge technology to track clues based on gps location in real time. technology has changed the search and rescue game over the years when my daughter was missing in 1993 everything everything was done in-house. we have searchers that are organizing this effort from all around the country. here volunteer searched for clues by taking pictures along highway 4 in brentwood. they hope any evidence found will bring alexis home soon. a group of high school students is planning a protest to stop oil drilling in contra costa county. they say they are doing their part to build a better bay area by drawing more attention to the issue abc 7 news reporter ryan

curry shares with us the change. they also want to see within county government. placing flyer after flyer is what alexa lindeman and her friends did in this neighborhood in brentwood. their goal is to raise awareness about oil drilling. contra costa county that we do not want this drilling site here or any other drilling sites in contra costa because of the health and environmental consequences lindeman is currently a high school senior and works with the nonprofit sustainable contra costa. she is planning a protest march 12th to inform people about a proposed future oil drilling site. she chose this neighborhood because it borders that site really close to this neighborhood. in fact, the closest house is only 900 feet away from it, but it is not just about a site, it is also about protesting one currently operating contra costa county issued a drilling permit for this site in 2018. ford supervisor. john joyce said the permit was issued without it ever being discussed by the board.

the zoning administrator. their decisions can be appealed to the planning commission. and then those decisions can be appealed to us at the board of supervisors. so if nobody appeals that and apparently nobody did to the board it never comes before us supervisor joyce says wants to see any future plans for an oil drilling site and contra costa county like this one get presented in front of the board before anything happens. i believe we need to draw the line and not have any additional oil drilling and contra costa county. the possible new drilling site is still awaiting an environmental impact report supervisor. joyous says that could get done in the next few months. but the reason why lindeman is organizing a protest now is because she doesn't want the same thing to happen again like with the previous drilling site. she wants the public to now be aware of the issue whenever they drop the environmental impact for report. we have a bunch of public comments and then the county won't approve it in brentwood ryan curry abc 7 news. still ahead on abc 7 news at 11.

in madison county southwest of des moines were at least 25 to 30 homes were destroyed. was an estimated ef-3 tornado causing severe damage at 136 mile per hour wind speed. national weather service surveyors will estimate the damage tomorrow? well happening right now hundreds of residents in florida were forced to evacuate after a wildfire erupted in the state's panhandle. it started friday and is 30% contained that fire has burned 1,500 acres and destroyed eight homes. the same area was hit hard by hurricane michael back in 2018 officials say downed trees from the hurricane along with humidity and strong winds made for perfect fire conditions. it was terrifying i ran to my daughter room. i ran to my son room and was like, it's a fire down there regretting probably, you know, granny pop for them house each of their and we don't know what's going on and i can't get a hold of him. so it was just terrifying because i didn't know if he hit them or what was going on.

the cause of the fire is still under investigation. well this weekend marks the 57th anniversary of one of the darkest days of the civil rights movement. events commemorating the 1965 crossing of the edmund pettus bridge will take place in person for the first time since the pandemic the bridge in selma alabama was the site of the so-called bloody sunday conflict police attacked demonstrators with horses, billy clubs and tear gas as they were attempting to march to the state capitol. marriott jones daniel will be one of the guests at tomorrow's events in selma. she is a survivor of a different historic racially driven attack in alabama the 16th street church bombing in birmingham two years earlier. juan obama church that reminded me for a long time. crawling out that scars on both of my legs. that are reminders.
