ukraine, that word coming from the secretary of state antony blinken. good evening and thank you for joining us, i am dion lim. let's start with significant developments involving the ukraine crisis. secretary of state blinken says the u.s. and allies are discussing a ban on imports of russian oil and gas in the latest escalation of their sanctions. is senior u.s. defense official said today that russia has fired a total of 600 missiles since its invasion of the ukraine began, and has committed 95% of its amassed combat power inside ukraine. over 1.5 million refugees from ukraine have since crossed into neighboring countries, according to the u.n. refugee agency chief. some of those still in ukraine are signing up to join the army, you are looking at video taken in the capital today, where a queue of people wrapped around several blocks. and it is not just ukrainians who are ready to fight the

russians, one british army veteran traveled from the u.k. to join the cause. he said he knows he could die, but he feels this is his duty. >> i have got no illusions, no romantic notions about fighting war or i am going to be a hero or make a difference. it is what i do. dion: ukrainian men have been ordered to stay and fight, forcing heart wrenching goodbyes as they send their families off to safety. a government order prohibits men between the ages of 18-60 from leaving ukraine. for those in ukraine, and the refugees, the bay area is showing its support. abc7news reporter cornell barnard has a look at how locals are getting creative in finding ways to help. cornell: a concert for peace in san francisco's hayes valley. musicians from the conservatory of music raising money to help the people of ukraine. >> thank you so much. cornell: donations will go to

direct relief, providing medical supplies. the violinist organized the concert after seeing so many heartbreaking images on tv. >> every single donation counts, and every single notes and song you will hear today have so much meaning behind it. >> thank you, united states. cornell: ukrainian native victor and his family, are moved so many strangers are stepping in to help. >> it is absolutely heartwarming to see the whole world supporting ukraine. every little bit counts. >> we are selling these dumplings, 8 in a bag. cornell: she was selling a traditional ukrainian dumpling in golden gate park. . proceeds will help humanitarian relief efforts. she is a former peace corps volunteer in ukraine. >> it is less about the dumplings than just spreading the word to people that this is a really big issue, and ukraine has a lot to offer. ♪

and asking if they wanted a brito. they also said that someone working in the press box even made other comments. >> just yells out -- >> this is america, you need to learn english -- towards one of the fathers that is a mexican latino, dark skinned. >> he said it well he was smiling and kind of laughing at us. dion: de la salle high school's president assad remark like that would reprehensible and unacceptable. he said they are investigating, and have spoken with individuals who were at the game. parents of some san francisco schoolchildren rallied today over masking rules. about two dozen people turned out at the field today, rallying over whether to choose when to wear masks. san francisco unified will partially lift the school mask mandate, in line with guidance to strongly recommend, but not require. moving on to. developing news. . a group of truck drivers and

supporters who reject covid mandates attempted to snarl traffic today on the outskirts of washington, d.c. members of the people's convoy say, since most states have dropped those mandates, the protest is also to end the government's ability to evoke emergency powers. >> we need our constitution restored, and we need our freedom, all across the nation. dion: leaders say they expect to do this again on the monday, on the beltway, a 64-mile highway that encircles the city. abc 7's ongoing commitment to help build a better bay area focus is now on the economy. as gas prices skyrocket across the country, some drivers in monterey county are paying over seven dollars a gallon. this gas station in gorda is charging $7.59 for a gallon of regular. keep in mind, gas prices in gorda are typically those higher because of its remote location on the big sur coast. even so, one gas station worker

damage. you can see a massive tornado on the ground in winterset, southwest of des moines. it is believed 25-30 homes were destroyed there. the national weather service said three thunderstorms produced an unknown amount of tornadoes. >> the last 12 hours have been some of the most difficult of our community. we are committed to coming together in times of need. dion: the storms are the deadliest in iowa since may of 2008, when one tornado destroyed nearly 300 homes and killed nine people. today marks the 57th anniversary of "bloody sunday" in selma, alabama. vice president kamala harris joined hundreds of people crossing the famous edmund pettus bridge. it commemorated the march from selma to monk -- from selma to montgomery in 1965. violent state troopers attacked protesters who were rallying for voting rights.

after today's march, vice president harris spoke about the current fight for democracy in ukraine. >> their bravery is a reminder that freedom and democracy can never be taken for granted. by any of dion: she went on to say, the people who marched across the bridge in selma also fought for economic, racial, and social justice. she implored americans to continue that fight. moving to the east bay, vallejo city hall will reopen tomorrow after a two-month closure due to a spike in covid infections. the building was closed january 10, and originally scheduled to reopen february 28, but city leaders delayed until march. starting tuesday, the city council will welcome the public back into in-person meetings, and the city strongly recommends that everyone wears masks inside of city hall, regardless of vaccination status. now open on the peninsula today since the start of the pandemic,

in the absence of clouds, temperatures will drop to the chile range. then tomorrow in the afternoon, it will be warmer, even than it was today. overnight lows will drop to 34 in santa rosa. 32 in ukiah. 33 in lakeport. east bay, santa rosa, 34. 37 in concord. similar range of low temperatures in murray hill and san jose. 41 degrees in many locations near the bay shoreline. highs tomorrow, low 60's at the coast where it will be breezy. mainly upper 60's around the bay shoreline. inland east bay, mid-to-upper 60's, similar in the south bay -- 67 in san jose. 71 in santa rosa and cloverdale and ukiah, so that will be our warmest region tomorrow. here is a look at your accuweather 7-day forecast. tuesday will be even warmer than tomorrow by a couple of degrees, upper 60's to near 70 at the bay. low 70's inland. we will have a cooler pattern wednesday and thursday, but

airport workers in milwaukee apparently found it and posted pictures on facebook in the hopes of finding the owner.
