ukrainian president zelensky is setting -- preparing for another wave of attacks. kumasi: we know this is coming as a mass exodus of civilians out of ukraine get to neighboring countries. jobina: russia declared a cease-fire to temporarily open humanitarian quarters for civilians evacuating kyiv. there is skepticism as russia previously violated its own pledge for a cease-fire in recent days. zelensky says russia's latest plan is to use high precision weapons to destroy military industrial facilities. the state department confirms credible reports russia is deliberately targeting ukrainian civilians and it comes as the wall street journal reports russia is recruiting syrians to join the fight quote hoping to expertise in urban combat can help to take kyiv. more than 1.5 million people have left ukraine. >> most of them are tired, terrified and confused. they do not know what to expect. jobina: in less than a week, the

u.s. and nato increased efforts to help ukraine. according to the new york times, more than 17,000 antitank weapons have crossed the border into kyiv and other major cities. antony blinken says the u.s. is in active discussions with european allies about banning russian oil, the no decision has been made. kumasi:ouple in kyiv got got married in their military uniforms. they have been together for 20 years and say they never felt the need to get married until now. they exchanged rings. the couple says they want to defend their city together. as war rages on in ukraine, a bay area priest is on a mission to help his homeland. just a few days ago, he was working on his doctorate degree at santa clarita university, but he said it is his responsibility to be there for his people. now, he is in poland organizing help for his homeland of ukraine. his mission includes raising relief money for people in a some of the places that are hardest to reach.

snowing. over the weekend, tornadoes hit the area, killing seven people. the national weather service is at least three thunderstorms produced an unknown amount of tornadoes saturday, this one hit winterset, southwest of des moines. 25 to 30 homes were destroyed. >> the last 12 hours have been some of the most difficult times our community has faced. we are committed to coming together in times of need. reggie: the storms are the deadliest in iowa since may 2008 when one tornado destroyed nearly 300 homes and killed nine people. drew: we are tracking the storm system pressing off to the east, you can see on the cold side a lot of snow, on the warm side severe weather. d.c. likely hitting 80 degrees later today for severe storms roll through. back at home, all about sunshine and mild temperatures later on today. hour-by-hour, but 10:00 a.m. climbing through the 50's. later this afternoon, we expect warmest cities to touch about 70

sky 7 as we start this monday, there is a traffic issue, take a look at the down to big rig. we are tracking a couple things we are already seeing this morning. kumasi: good morning, it is monday, march 7. reggie: what occurred here? jobina: it is causing a big backup if you are traveling south bend 680. this is at snow boulevard, the chp has not given us an estimated time as to when all lanes will reopen. i was tracking average speeds, is going to be around six miles per hour as you approach it. the backup is over five miles long, want to make sure everybody knows this if this is a part of your commute. check that out as sky 7 moves further north, southbound 680 right at central boulevard. we also have a big problem for bart writers coming out of richmond. they have no service running right now between richmond and downtown berkeley because of a power problem.

house speaker nancy pelosi is planning to put an aid package to a vote and is working on new legislation to ban the import of russian oil and energy products. officials say russian forces have attacked ukrainian communications infrastructure to reduce access to reliable news and information. united states officials say since the invasion began, russia has fired around 600 missiles. reggie: the bay areas showing support for those in ukraine and refugees. ♪ heans fr conrv cio's hayes valleycert in yesterday to raise money to help the people of ukraine. donations go to direct relief, an organization providing medical supplies in ukraine. ukrainian natives say they are moved so many strangers are stepping up to help. >> it is absolutely heartwarming to see the whole world supporting ukraine. every little bit counts. reggie: a former peace corps

volunteer who spent time in ukraine also set up a fundraiser in golden gate park. she sold traditional ukrainian dumplings. proceeds go to humanitarian relief efforts. kumasi: vice president harris talked about the fight for democracy in ukraine during a visit to alabama. it marked the 57th anniversary of bloody sunday by marching with hundreds of people across the bridge. the merge commemorated the march from salma to montgomery in 1965. alabama state troopers violently attacked about 600 is full protesters who were rallying for voting rights. harris spoke after the march. >> their bravery is a reminder that freedom and democracy can never be taken for granted. by any of us. kumasi: she went on to say the people who marched across the bridge also fought for economic, racial into social justice. she implored americans to continue that fight.
