details. amy: yes, we will see teachers outside of the schools like this one picketing. it's not a strike, but they will be picketing. consider it a warning. a warm up, they say, but they are ready to strike if necessary. this is the mount diablo school district. they want to pick it to show they are united and ready to strike, saying 92% of union members voted in favor of striking if demands are not met they have schools along 680 from martinez to concord. the teachers in this section of the east bay say they need a 12.5% pay raise over six years. the district is offering 7%. >> i know how vital a fair contract is. it is essential to retaining the teachers we have and bringing in new ones.

it does not buy groceries andt put gas in the tank. amy: teachers chose today to pick it because it is the day that a pena will be meeting that panel is expected to announce recommendations on how to proceed with the negotiations. the teachers believe the district can afford to give raises, dating back from 2017 and continuing through 2024. the superintendent says there is not room in the budget. the teachers plan to picket before today and after school. reggie: thank you. teachers in another school district will return to the classroom today. announced that they had reached a tentative agreement with the district ending a strike there. the union calls it a monumental shift that will prioritize teachers in the budget. the schools are still operating on a half-day schedule today. kumasi: grief counselors on and

in mountain view to support students, staff and teachers after a student was killed in a crash. the student was biking to school when a truck hit him at el camino real and grant road in mountain view. people in the area say it is known for being a dangerous intersection. >> it is brutal. people ignore you here, across the street, especially catty corner from here. >> the police department says the driver is not facing charges currently and they do not believe that speed or alcohol was a factor. the school have grief counselors at school on monday as well. reggie: the man suspected of shooting an officer is due in court today. the officer died after the shooting in november while protecting a tv news crew. local employees charged three people in the murder and one suspect is still out there. u.s. marshals are asking for the

jobina: health officials have a warning about overdoses, they have issued an alert in response to overdoses among people accidentally exposed to fentanyl while using cocaine.

investigators have seen three deadly overdoses in the last two weeks involving people who say they thought they were using cocaine only. fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that can be up to 50 times more potent than heroin. julian: covid travel restrictions in the u.k. have been lifted for arriving passengers, unvaccinated people do not need to take tests when they landed into passenger forms are no longer required. officials say they have ended the restrictions before the easter holidays, but say that there are contingency plans to respond to future variants. jobina: landmarks are in green this morning for st. patrick's day, one of the biggest parties in the city happened at the united irish cultural center. we explain why this year's celebration is paving the way for the future. ♪ reporter: after a long two-year break the music, the dancing and

picketing today before and after school. in walnut creek, amy hollyfield. julian: san francisco unified teachers have packed up their sleeping bags after spending the night at district headquarters. jobina: they have reached a deal on ongoing payroll issues that left some teachers underpaid. they got a commitment from the district that all outstanding checks would be resolved by today. the district says a new system led to underpayments in more than 1000 cases. a special education teacher says that she has received money for afterschool programs that she was involved in and expects covid to pay next week. >> i was excited to see the email because i saw the 15% interest paid to educators for each day back pay that was owed, which is huge. jobina: under the agreement, the union says any future payroll errors will be paid within 72

hours. julian: to the latest in the war on ukraine. russia's foreign minister says foreign supplies containing military equipment to ukraine will be considered targets for russian strikes. the ukrainian police are reporting an american was killed by russian charlene, hours after the u.k. defense minister says he thinks that russia's invasion of ukraine has stalled. russia is relying on longer-range missions. and a theater in strike despite satellite images showing the words children visible from the air. a day after calling putin a war criminal, president biden has harsher words. >> there is brutality in what he is doing in ukraine, it is inhumane. julian: the u.s. house has passed legislation to revoke the status of russia and belarus as

jobina: sentencing will be underway today for a getaway driver that killed a man in oakland. byron reed was convicted of second-degree murder in november, the deadly crash happened when a 34-year-old was trying to stop thieves who took his laptop from a starbucks. this was on new year's eve of 2019. reed is facing object 30 years in prison. julian: police are investigating a crash that happened moments after officers tried to stop a suspect. they pulled the person over on wednesday night near international boulevard. when officers approached, the driver sped off, slamming into another car. two people were killed. a women in the backseat is hospitalized. a small memorial has popped up
