two trucks were heading to a call when they crashed at the intersection after noon. it also hit two parked cars, and one car on top of the other. the fire truck almost hit the apartment building. the owner of the car was home across the street watching tv. >> i was expecting a blockbuster. this is a car buster. >> he just bought the car six month ago. >> there is a car on top of my car, like. it is all crazy. i don't know. i am still in shock about it. now it is just destroyed. >> lieutenant baxter with the fire department says there will be an investigation into how this could have happened. >> everything we speculate will be things we look into, training systems, expectations of driver

but there is optimism a comeback is on the horizon. kristen: one of the three suspects in the november shooting death of a retired area police officer appeared in court today. two family members attended the hearing. the suspect is accused of shooting the officer and open while providing security for a tv news crew. mitchell waived his right to a speedy trial. he and two other men are charged with murder, attempted robbery, and assault. one is in custody. one is on the run. the man who kidnapped and sexually assaulted a woman received a 31-year prison sentence today. police said it was a hope initially. he was sentenced after pleading no contest to breaking into the home of two people, drugging, kidnapping, and then raping one person. he is already serving a 40 year

larry: teachers from one school district are showing they mean business following an impasse over raises. they have voted to strike come impacting thousands of students. today, they are putting on the pressure. >> these teachers at northgate high school are not on strike. they picketed this morning to show they are serious about going on strike, if salary demands are not met. seems like this played out at every campus in the mount diablo go district. >> it is exciting. there is a lot of energy. this is a getting ready to strike awareness campaign, just to let the community know we are ready to do what it takes to get fair wages. >> all employees deserve an increase in salary. >> superintendent clark says school districts all over california will need help from the state in order to meet teacher demands. >> school districts are underfunded.

there is money, but they have to change the structure on how they fund public education. >> these teachers say they're not asking for much, a 12 point 5% increase over six years. >> it barely keeps up with the cost of living. we have not had a raise in three years. >> the superintendent said money is tight and the board made budget cuts a week ago. >> they had to cut $10 million from the budget, including dozens of teachers who were laid off, staff laid off. we cut fourth-grade music. >> he says meeting the salary demands would mean more cuts. teachers are not buying it, and looking forward to the recommendations from the fact-finding panel. >> we are hoping the panel will find what we have seen all along, that there are funds to support. >> teachers say the earliest they could strike is one week from monday, march 28. they do want to get the date out

climate as part of our efforts to build a better bay area. we now have a look at some help the bay area is getting from the federal government. >> the new budget is bringing welcome news for bay area environmental advocates, and they are hoping that money would jumpstart major climate change projects for the san francisco bay and the surrounding areas. when it comes to spending for the environment, san francisco bay's ship may be coming in. 24 made in dollars in funding for the epa bay restoration projects, triple the normal amount -- $24 million in funding for the epa bay restoration projects, triple the normal amount. >> it has been a fraction of chesapeake in puget sound are seeing. -- in puget sound are seeing. this is a huge boost for restoration cleaning water quality. >> while the epa funding will be a welcome boost for restoration,
