solutions. this is abc 7 news. ah bomb scare in the east bay tonight leaving residents on edge dozens or forced from their homes, and now some say they're ready to get out for good. good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm dan ashley and i'm a dates that bomb secure happened at an apartment complex in pleasant hill the evacuation order has now been lifted but the situation was enough to leave some people very shaken abc 7 news reporter. tim johns has the story. a quiet apartment complex and pleasant hill turned into the scene of a nightmare friday night. i don't feel safe here. i do not feel safe here the pleasant hill on clinton police departments say they were investigating a series of vandalisms in the area as a part of that investigation pleasant hill pd detectives discovered that it was possible that our suspect in that vandalism case was acquiring explosive devices as a result law enforcement agencies say they got a search warrant for an apartment on the 300 block of long brook way in

their search officials say they found bomb making material. goes along with some type of device pleasant hill pd says they arrested a 27 year old man. the hazmat was here. the fire department was here fbi was here. we didn't know what was going on maureen kill murray lives at the complex and was one of about 20 residents evacuated around 3 pm friday afternoon. she says the suspect kept to himself and never had much interaction with others in the complex. he put plastic over his windows so that you know, which we thought was kind of weird that sentiment also shared by other residents too many of whom were still shell shocked over what had happened we had suspicions of something way lower level maybe like growing some pot or something like that had no clue anything like this could have been happening but as the shock starts to wear off and residents begin returning to their homes some say it might not be for

that's when we're expecting moderate rain. watch out for slippery roads windy conditions near the coast the possibility of lightning and hail. i'll be back with the rest of your hourly forecast for your saturday plus a look at what's coming for sunday as spring begins in just a few minutes. all right, sandy. thank you. fire crews are still on the scene of a fire at a vacant commercial building in campbell. it was destroyed by a big fire that occurred about 10 o'clock this morning sky 7 was where you can see thick smoke coming from the three-story building a crews were able to keep flames from spreading to nearby buildings. the structure is deemed unstable and dangerous people working from nearby buildings watched finding it hard to breathe even all you could see was smoke pouring out of the second story windows. this is three stories and it was excuse me. fire is the fires basically out but crews are still on site monitoring hot spots until tomorrow.

there are no reports of injuries and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. morgan hill police have arrested a 17 year old after they say he shot gel balls at pedestrians. the attack happened yesterday afternoon only days after pleasanton police warned of similar random attacks. the behavior is being tied to a viral social media trend that encourages people to fire pellets at unsuspecting victims abc 7 news reporter amanda del castillo is here with the warning. what tiktok users might consider a new viral social media challenge is landing teens and some real trouble and morgan hill thursday a 17 year old boy was arrested after police. say two people walking along east main avenue were hit with gel balls or orbeez shot from a blaster gun fired from a moving car these gel or water-based pellets hit one person in the head another in the arm if someone struck in the face or an eye. some softer membrane, you know, especially the eye that's gonna cause some significant

understand how space exploration works. ♪ here at the exploratorium, we're pleased to be bringing three mars exploration experiences to our audiences. the first and the most impactful in scale is what you see here, which is the perseverance mars rover model. we also have a really engaging experience from the tinkering school. that's a youth-led project that uses the engineering and the problem-solving that's being done by nasa at this really large, crazy scale, brings it back down to earth, and uses materials that we're familiar with to try to do some similar problem-solving and engineering. and then, we also have an experience in our wattis studio using videos that nasa has created or that persy has collected from mars as well as documentation from the launch of perseverance and the engineering of perseverance.

♪ >> so, at the exploratorium, we have a full-scale model of the perseverance rover. you're able to see the instruments on the rover as well as what the wheels look like and experience what it might be like for the rover on mars, in terms of size and scalability. it's the size of a small car. >> what i think is really great about this model is you see it in front of you. and you also can learn about each of the instruments that are on the model and learn what each of them are doing on mars. >> we're interested in assessing potential areas for biosignature preservation potential as well as characterizing the overall geology and preparing for future human exploration. >> i'm also really excited that we were able to bring this partnership with the tinkering school in for these mars projects, because the tinkering school is a really inspiring way to approach education and how empowered the

young people that they work with become. it's just -- it was marvelous to be able to work with them and to see that emotion. >> we are offering an interactive part of this exhibit where you can drive a mars rover in the same way that the perseverance rover drivers do. >> so, the tinkering lab is something the exploratorium wanted to set up as a way to showcase what tinkering is and sort of run class type things. we actually have one of our live rovers in a small simulated sandbox that mimics the much larger facility we have at our offices in tinkering school, where you can walk up to a kiosk and build out a motion plan and drive the rover and watch it drive around and try to get an emulation of the experience of what it's like to drive the perseverance rover. you can also check out some of our prototypes of various aspects. we really wanted to showcase in these projects how iteration and prototyping works so that people can see that you're not always successful on your first design and you need to experiment and make revisions. >> you can really follow through the entire timeline of our robot development through this event.
