at 6:00 live on abc seven and wherever you stream. one person is dead and another in the hospital after a house fire in east san jose this morning. our news tower cameras caught some of the plumes of smoke moments after the fire erected. firefighters were called to the home at about 10:00 and when they arrived, they found the home engulfed in flames. firefighters say the house was surrounded by a chain-link fence and appeared to be boarded up. the fire hit three alarms, triggering a large response to the neighborhood to keep the flames from spreading to nearby homes. >> our responsibility is to protect neighboring structures and save the block. we took action to take defensive operations on the left and right side to protect those homes. >> it took about two hours to put the fire out. one person was taken to the hospital with burns.

firefighters discovered the deceased victim inside the home, which was destroyed. because of the fire is under investigation. new at 6:00, traffic slowed on southbound 680 at the oramp in san firfireghters sffed out bug treean brushes along the freeway at around 11:00. the freeway exit was closed while fire crews mopped up. now to the latest developments in ukraine. president zelenskyy is sending a message, calling the russian invasion on the city of narrow pole -- maripol and devastation that will be remembered for seven -- for centuries. forces continue their attack on the capital. many of those who have been able to escape have fled to poland. nearly 3 million refugees are now waiting in the capital of warsaw for new identification numbers.

the viewer tells us at least 100 cars were involved. we are waiting on a callback from police to confirm that figure. the video shows fireworks going off while people appear to be running towards the scene. there is no word if police arrested anyone or towed any cars. a sideshow in oakland the next morning turned deadly saturday near 40 2nd avenue and i 880. as many as 600 vehicles were blocking the roads, and they got reports of gunfire so officers moved in. they found an oakland man suffering massive trauma after being hit by a car. he died at the hospital, where doctors is covered he had also been shot or two other shootings happened at the sideshow as well but those victims were not seriously hurt. also in oakland, police are investigating two shootings last night that left one person dead and two others hurt. the first happened just after eight at 18th avenue.

masks will still be required in classrooms and other indoor locations. one man is dead after he led chp on a high-speed chase on highway 101. a mercedes was spotted speeding over 130 miles per hour this afternoon. chp tried to pull the vehicle over. the driver exited towards country roads. the car crashed into a tree on westside road, then burst into flames. the driver was killed. west side road is closed while officers investigate the incident. chp, investigating a deadly crash early this morning in contra costa county. officers say a driver was going the wrong way on eastbound i-80 at cummings skyway. the driver slammed into a tesla, causing both cars to burst into flames. both drivers died. the freeway was shut down for about four hours overnight while crews cleared the scene. developing news, at least 24 people were shot, one fatally,

at a car show in rural arkansas saturday night. six of those injured were children. a gunfight erected -- erupted about 90 miles southeast of little rock. the car show was a fundraiser to put on -- to benefit children's organizations. one person is in custody and locals say it is incredibly rare to have violence like this in the community of just 5000 people. it is shaping up to be an historic week the nations capital. the hearings set to get underway that could lead to our first -- a first for the countries judicial system. a race to the finish line in oakland. the marathon was back in person. we will show you the festivities. >> a live look outside as we head into sunday evening. abc 7's meteorologist is next with the forecast. >> in sports, the

admitted to the hospital after experiencing flulike symptoms. the court says the 73-year-old is being treated with iv antibiotics for an infection and is getting better. he was taken to the hospital friday evening and will stay at sibley memorial hospital in washington for another day or two. he is vaccinated and boosted against covid. thomas was expected to take the bench tomorrow morning to hear arguments. tomorrow marks the beginning of the hearings for the supreme court nomination of judge ketanji brown jackson. it is expected democrats have enough votes to make her the first black woman on the u.s. supreme court. there could be fireworks as republican senators pressed her about her record and her view of the u.s. constitution. abc news deputy political director avery harper gave a preview of the questioning judge jackson may face. >> i think we will see pointed questions about her past record, her previous experiences among the fact that she represented

detainees at guantánamo bay, her record on crime will be a topic of discussion. her ties to harvard will also be a big thing that we will hear about during these hearings. i also think, remember there are several members of the judiciary committee, republicans who could run for president in 2024 so it is likely we will see some political theater. i think judge jackson will have to navigate those questions carefully. >> the supreme court confirmation hearings get underway at 8:00 a.m. our time tomorrow. democrats hope to finish judge jackson's confirmation process before congress leaves for easter recess april 11. tomorrow is a special day in the east bay. it is rosie the riveter day at the historic museum in richmond. the museum is a national park that honors women for their hard work during world war ii. rosie's are welcome in person this year. the museum is home to theus

country's national -- oldest national park ranger. thousands participated in the 13th annual oakland running festival this morning. it included multiple races from a 5k to a marathon. it is the first time the event was open to spectators and in person participants since 2019. >> it is such a big rush to be out here in person again after those two years off. the energy is huge and the town cheering us on, it is a special day. >> so nice to see. you are looking at video from our colleague showing people crossing the finish line. the first place winner was a berkeley resident who finished the marathon in two hours and 31 minutes. congratulations to everyone who participated. one more check of the weather, and it looked like a nice day to take a run. >> lots of sunshine, but the wind, especially from the northwest, kept think school at

the beaches. satellite and radar is clear, lots of blue skies, sunshine. check out how cool it is at half moon bay. some 70's in some spots, 69 in fairfield and redwood. much warmer for almost everyone except at the beaches compared to 24 hours ago and that is because of that strong sea breeze and northwesterly flow. notice we did see some double-digit increases in inland areas and that will continue over the next couple days. the wind kept things cool and san francisco, winds up to 29 miles per hour and sfo, 21 miles per over. here is a live look from emeryville towards the bay then you can see the sun setting. the spring will bring us longer days. in addition, warmer temperatures and more sunshine almost all week long until next weekend. the warmest day will be tuesday,

high-pressure building but the next chance of rain is on sunday and that is when temperatures come back down and we will see more clouds. overnight lows will be a little milder, so we won't see too many 30's. lots of mid to upper 40's around the bay. san francisco 47, oakland 45, san jose 44 and a couple upper 30's like morgan hill, 39. a frost advisory for lake and mendocino county. last night, a hard freeze in freeze warning but tonight, frost advisory so some areas could drop as low as 33 degrees. we could see frost so keep that in mind. tomorrow, we warm up even more, still breezy at the beaches and that is what temperatures will be near 60 at half moon bay but around the bay, 70's. san francisco 64, oakland 72, san jose 73 and about 80 in fairfield. notice near 80's and upper 70's through the north bay. that will increase in terms of

seeing more 80's around the bay area for tuesday. that is the warmest day of the week. 87 in fairfield, napa, and lots of mid to upper 70's around the bag, oakland, wrightwood city. here is a look at the week ahead. napa, the average is 65. we will be 20 degrees above average tuesday, lots of sunshine and then temperatures really tumble. that is because we have a chance of rain moving in. the seven-day forecast, enjoy the spring warmth tomorrow. record highs are possible. tuesday, the warmth -- it turns cooler towards the end of the week. cloudier and cooler, saturday you will notice it but the chance of rain as temperatures drop into the 60's, and we will keep an eye on that for sunday. enjoy the sunshine and stay safe and wear lots of sunscreen this week. >> now, abc 7 sports with chris alvarez. >> with 12 games left in the regular season, the warriors

begin the stretch run with stephen curry sidelined. steph spoke with reporters ahead of the tip-off. you see the walking booth -- boot on the injured left foot, which he sprained wednesday night against boston. walking gingerly but still doing alright. he will be reevaluated in two weeks. curry says he is limited to doing work that doesn't require him to do his feet, so cardio and core work. he is feeling better every day and optimistic he can return before the playoffs. steph discussed the big three finally returning to the court. >> it was a rough 48 hours thinking about that when i got hurt, just because you are celebrating, it has a most been 1000 days since me, klay and draymond played together. i play 11 minutes and i get sure. it is -- i get hurt. i'm frustrated, but i am

game. ncaa tournament berth at state, minnesota state scores the game-winner in overtime, everyone goes crazy, you get the trophy. everyone leaves the arena, all done, right? but wait. review officials got another angle, determined the net came off the post and the goal should not count. somehow they got the ref sands and fans back in the arena to restart the game an hour later, then four minutes into the reese -- the restart, minnesota scores again. they will go into the tournament. where are we? are we still playing? that was crazy. i have never seen anything like that. can you imagine a warriors game ending and, you beat the buzzer but wait. everybody come back, that didn't come -- didn't count. >> usually everybody is gone by then. that is funny.
