news right away that breaking news hundreds of workers at the chevron oil refinery in richmond could be on strike in just about an hour. good evening, and thank you for joining us. i'm dion limb that labor dispute could impact operations at the chevron refinery abc 7 news rep. eric campbell is on the story tonight and tara you heard from both sides and learned what a refinery strike could mean for our gas prices. yeah dion these two sides have been negotiating for months. now the union telling me tonight. they just see no other choice but to strike they said to that part of the motivation here is watching the likes of nurses unions and amazon workers take a stand with these larger corporations. as a 1201 midnight tonight. we will withhold our labor 500 workers at the chevron richmond

refinery will be on strike all members of the united steelworkers local 5 making up roughly 1/3 of workers at the refinery. our members will not be running the refinery. and we will attempt a seek seeke get a fair and equitable contract going forth. the union says it wants chevron to keep wages up with rising inflation and health insurance costs a cost of living increase for the the bay area. it's not for us to get rich as our medical archives. we went up 23% of this year and the company did not they did not contribute another penny to it these union mem is our lab technicians warehouse workers and maintain machines in a statement chevron says it is quote fully prepared to continue normal operations to safely and reliably provide the products that consumers need also saying quote we believe our contract

offer is fair competitive and responsive to usw concerns as far as whether this strike will impact gas prices. you see berkeley professor severn bornstein says it depends it depends on two major factors one is how much chevron has to ratchet down production from this refinery. it's claiming that it will be able to continue to produce but i did think we just don't know how much output will go down the second major factor. he says is that if output does go down how quickly california can bring in gasoline in the worst case scenario. we lose a lot of output from this refinery, which is producing more than 10% of, california. find products. and it takes a few weeks orr longer to replace it if that happens. in that case we could could coud see yet a bigger price bike than we're already saying. now dion the union says chevron

this is over the weekend in the bay area. it was loud it was the nerve-wracking of kenny mccarty lives near this intersection in fremont like so many other neighbors he's upset about what's happening and it's dangerous. it's a young kids and they don't seem to be doesn't seem to be any concern for safety there at all culture is very rich in the bay area but to tear up property to awaken neighbors to scare children and people are elderly that's not the culture of the bay area at all as busy as this scene looked the side show that happened near this area. 42nd and i-880 off of the interstate in oakland had an even bigger impact police say a man found with massive trauma and a gunshot wound died at the hospital two others were injured by gunfire shots were also fired at this sideshow in santa rosa

saturday night going into sunday. witnesses in fremont say fireworks like this. we're going sideways cars were seen riding on sidewalks and on the grass, but do know is i am tired of them tearing up my neighborhood. i'm a woman of color. so are you trying to tell me that our city and our police department don't care about us they don't care about what's happening in our city? like i don't understand that if it were happening in other places, i bet you. bet you help would be on the way from the bay area. i mean born and raised. i love the bay love the car scene. like i said, i'm a classic car guy myself, but there's a time and place for everything. it's a very tough images there. it is still unclear tonight. if any cars were towed in any of these cases or if any arrests were made. we have reached out to multiple offices, but have yet to hear back from many of those offices witnesses in these cases describe officers keeping their distance until things started to die down jr.

up tonight for a benefit concert to help the people of ukraine. performance by virtuoso violinist and bay area resident carlos reyes brought the crowd to its feet at the empress theater in downtown vallejo over 50 local musicians serenaded a sold-out crowd of nearly 500 people offer a good cause plus you might recognize some of the names. my thing is to play music and to make people feel better make myself feel better give more because you can use that to raise money to to help people that are in a war. we're all thinking about what the ukrainians are going through and this event will help support doctors without borders so i couldn't resist.

we know that guy abc abc abc anchor dan ashley was one of the dozens of drop-in musical guests to perform the event brought in over $10,000 to benefit doctors without borders helping relief efforts in ukraine. well moving to the south bay where volunteers of the georgian american community are helping the ukrainian people in a big. they spent their weekend boxing and sorting medical supplies canned food and much more for people in need the georgian people know from their own experience russia invaded georgia in 2008 killing hundreds of people volunteers wrote messages of hope on the supplies. they will be delivered in poland and trucked into ukraine. and if you would like to help the people of ukraine, we've put together a list of verified groups and nonprofits sending donations and supplies to refugees. it's all at our website abc7news.com/take action. in the east bay firefighters have pulled off a difficult rescue this evening this evening

a man had been freed after being stuck in an underground storm drain in antioch that drain was just over a foot wide and located 15 feet underground at buchanan and somersville roads a man in his 30s was trapped for three and a half hours someone walking to the store first learned that the man was trapped. was just walking by and heard him yelling through the pipe. and then all of a sudden i get started getting the northstar getting louder and louder. and all of this i heard him. screaming for health and he asked me to help him. i end up calling the police. i don't thank me. he was there just before 10 o'clock tonight success firefighters freed him and took him to the hospital for an evaluation all right moving on to the weather now temperatures outside feeling pretty seasonable but change is coming when the sun rises tomorrow abc

person is dead, and another is in the hospital after a big house fire in east san jose this morning our abc 7 news tower cameras caught some of the large plumes of smoke when the cre. arrived they found an entire house on wilshire drive engulfed in flames firefighters. say the house was surrounded by chain link fence and appeared to be boarded up that fire hit three alarms triggering that large response our primary responsibility when house is fully involved is to protect the neighboring structures save the homes next door and save the block so we immediately took

action to take defensive operations on the left and right side of the structure to protect those homes. one person was taken to the hospital with burns firefighters discovered the deceased victim inside the home, which was destroyed. no word yet on what exactly ignited that fire. berkeley city council could take a landmark step on tuesday to develop a reparations process for blacks berkeley side reports the city will weigh allocating $350,000 in next year's budget to address america's legacy of enslavement and discrimination that is affected blacks the proposal calls for hiring a consultant to develop a policy on those reparations. it would include four parts recognizing acknowledgment accountability and redress. well abc 7 is committed to helping build a better bay area and part of that commitment includes bringing you stories that impact your health oakland unified school district is changing its mask policy starting tomorrow masks will be

spring we have a lot of sunshine ahead. in fact clear skies tonight, you can see that here with live doppler 7. it is quiet out there even satellite radar image and you see that live view from sutro tower looking across san francisco and the bay temperatures are cooling down into the 40s for oakland and mountain view at 49 in santa clara san francisco 51, san jose 51 half moon bay 50 degrees and this time from the east bay hills. we're looking west towards the bay bridge with san francisco in the distance in parts of the north bay temperatures are in the 40s now petaluma 47 napa and fairfield at 48 livermore. cooler spots at 44 degrees and this time from emeryville looking out west once again towards the bay bridge so we have clear skies tonight and spring will be bringing us warmer temperatures milder overnight lows plenty of sunshine through the work week. in fact, we're really going to ramp things up. our warmest day will be tuesday will be well above average in

many locations. we might even break some records and then we're keeping track of the next chance of rain possibly on sunday, but it doesn't look great at this point the models keep changing. so overnight lows mostly in the 40s not too many thirties out there tonight. so it is going to be milder in santa rosa 40, san francisco 46 oakland 45, san jose 44, so mostly clear skies, we could see some high clouds passing through still a cold night though through parts of lake and mend. know county now last night. they had a hard freeze warning, but tonight there's a frost advisory. so also a little bit milder temperatures possibly dropping to 33 degrees and that could create some frost through tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock highs are going to be warmer. so we started the trend of day. it's going to continue into tuesday. that's when things really ramp up tomorrow. we even could see an 81 degree out there towards fairfield 80 in napa, but with the sea breeze not as strong as it was today.

still keep things cool so half moon bay at 59 san francisco 64 low seventy through oakland, fremont palo alto and san jose warming up to 73 degrees. so tuesdays when we'll see more widespread 80s for inland communities, especially so conquered livermore antioch in the 80s fairfield getting up to 87 look for 84 in santa rosa nap 85 and then around the bay lots of mid 70s, so t-shirt and shorts weather for tuesday, but then things change quickly. example we are going to be above average in napa tomorrow. well above about 20 degrees average on tuesday. then we keep the sunshine but significantly much cooler weather for next sunday, and that's because of the rain moving in. so enjoy the spring warmth tomorrow. we also will be having longer days record highs possible tuesday. we'll see the 80s tuesday and wednesday inland turning cooler little change on friday, but then much cooler and we're keeping an eye on this for the chance of rain on sunday.

moving on to developing news now tomorrow will mark the beginning of hearings for the historic supreme court nomination of judge. catanji brown jackson. it is expected democrat. have enough votes to make her the first black woman on the us supreme court, but there could be some fireworks as republican senators. her about her record and her view of the us constitution. abc news deputy political director avery harper was on gma this morning giving a preview of the line of questioning. judge jackson may face. i think we're going to see real pointed questions about her past record her previous experiences things like the fact that she represented detainees at guantanamo bay. her record on crime is going to be a topic of discussion her ties to harvard are going to also be a big thing that we're going to hear about. during these hearings and i also think that you have to remember that there are several members of the judiciary committee republicans who could run for president in 2024. so it's very likely that we're going to see some political
