jobina: alex joins us live from capitol hill with the keys to today's hearing. hi, alex. alex: the next few days are going to be long. we are expecting upwards of 19 hours' worth of questioning for judge jackson. if yesterday was any indication, things could get tense. this morning, day two of the historic confirmation hearings for supreme court nominee judge ketanji brown jackson. following up on monday's roughly 4.5 hour-long session, judge jackson with her parents, husband, and daughters in attendance gave opening statements. >> i hope that you will see how much i love our country. and the constitution, and the rights that make us free. alex: this is the harvard graduate's fourth appearance by the committee. she's received bipartisan support in the past but this time is different.

>> we are hraog to look at her -- look at her past decisions and statements. alex: senator lindsey graham in anticipation of criticism he expects g.o.p. senators to concede say this. >> we are all racist if we ask hard questions. it's not going to fly with us. alex: the most severe challenge to judge jackson's confirmation misleading allegations by republican senator josh hawley, claiming jackson has a long record of letting child po*rpb offenders off the hook. >> judge jackson handed down a lenient sentence below what the federal guidelines reld. alex: roughly 60% of sentences in such cases are lower than what the guidelines call for. and in most of the cases hawley cited, federal prosecutors requested sentences shorter than what the guideline suggest. abc pushing hawley on his own votes for record. >> federal judges that imposed records for --

jobina: happening today, opening statements in the trial for former president sunny could resume in san jose. post opponented last week after a juror was possibly exposed to covid. the juror tested negative, but the judge ordered the delay out of an abundance of caution. he faces the same fraud charges' his ex-girlfriend, elizabeth holmes. prosecutors say the pair lied to investors about their company's blood testing technology. holmes was convicted of four counts of wire fraud in january. san francisco police want to find the thieves who robbed a camera store in the chinatown neighborhood. police say several people walked

into the grant avenue business yesterday afternoon and started smashing the glass display cases. two employees and a neighbor tried to stop the heist, but the thieves attacked them. one man was hit and had to go to the hospital. it's unclear how much the thieves got away with. reggie: former google employees are sharing stories what they call discrimination while working at the company. all the ex-workers are persons of color who are part after lawsuit filed against google. they each claim to face racial discrimination that phemob wd sh ss despite having two college degrees and years of experience, she was underpaid and tphefrl given a promotion -- never given a promotion. >> i began to yet white dominant policies and practices within google and the recruitment order. policies that ultimately led to the underlevelling and underpaying of black talent at google. reggie: despite her performance, she says she was wrongfully terminated in december of 2020.

in part the lawsuit is looking for the employees to be reinstated to their positions and awarded the value of the compensation and benefits they lost and will lose in the future. we reached out to google for a response to the lawsuit. so far we haven't heard back. hundreds of union steel workers on strike at the chevron richmond refinery. they walked out yesterday after voting down chevron's most recent contract offer and what they say was the company's refusal to return to the bargaining table. they demand safety improvements and 17% pay rise to offset inflation and rising health care costs. >> cost of living as any blue collar worker knows it's got to the point it's hard to live. our workers have to live 45 minutes to an hour out. we are asking for a little relief from the compaort 650 mi. the most earnings they had since 2014. reggie: united steel workers represents 1/3 of the workers at the refinery. chevron issued a statement we believe our contract offer is

fair, competitive, and responsive to u.s.w. concerns. however the union demands exceeded what the company believes to be reasonable. jobina: community organizations and local leaders are celebrating a law that helps provide nutritious meals for millions of americans. today marks the 50th anniversary of the older americans act nutrition program. it helps fund programs lik meals on wheels in celebration local leaders joined spectrum community services and a special ride along in honor of the program so many seniors rely on every day. >> these volunteers were the overwhelm person some of these seniors saw in an entire day. delivering those healthy meals is critical to the quality of life for many of our residents. jobina: while the nonprofits like spectrum community services receive federal funding for meals on wheels, it also relies on donations and the work of volunteers. more are needed light now. spectrum's 200-plus volunteers each deliver nine to 11 meals a

day, five days a week. reggie: if you returned to work at the office, chances are you noticed the cost of your lunch went up. some are calling it lunchflation. the san francisco based square calculated the price of standard lunch items in major cities. prices forral hratsdz have jumped 11% since a year ago. it also found the average price of wraps up 18%. sandwiches up 14%. the bureau of labor statistics says menu prices at restaurants have seen the highest increase since 1981. jobina: a 1998 classic is making a comeback. szechuan sauce is returning to mcdonald's for a limited time only. starting next thursday you can dip your nuggets in the famous sauce. look out for five unique labels, four of the five labels spells out the word szechuan. the fifth shows the whole name. reggie: what?

reggie: the state legislature is considering a bill that would provide unemployment benefits for undocumented workers. east bay member is one of the authors of the excluded workers pilot program. if passed it would run for a year with the hopes of it becoming permanent. there are more undocumented workers in california. nearly 200,000 were unemployed during the height of the pandemic. supporters say this bill would prevent people from going into debt and to expand their life savings. kiley jenner and travis scott are changing their baby's name from wolf to something else. according to jenner's instagram story. she said they determined the name wolf doesn't fit their newborn. jenner hasn't said anything about a new name. this announcement came hours after she released a youtube

help. moments later a see dan pulled up and another man attacked kevin. both suspects ran toward a get away car. alameda police advise residents not to intervene when witnessing a crime. authorities say walgreens is not seeking prosecution. kevin says he has been frustrated seeing other kinds of petty theft and says he wanted to do something about it. >> not today. not today. not my watch. my town. my ownership. this is mine. it's not theirs. i pay for it. they don't. reporter: he went on to mention that he would do it again if given the opportunity. he says he's been fed up seeing shoplifting and robberies happen all over the bay area. we told us he hopes this empowers others to do the same as he did. again authorities do not recommend intervening when witnessing a crime. clearly bay area residents are not happy about these kinds of incidents. jobina: thank you.

a new plan will be unveiled today to provide a former shelter to every unhoused person in san francisco. a supervisor hreupbt dues a ordnance called a place for all. first introduced in 2020. it expands on the types of shelter that can be provided including tiny homes or safe sleeping areas for tents. four supervisors support the plan. six notes needed to pass. supervisors will vote today to buy land for affordable housing projects t could provide affordable housing for families, veterans, seniors, and people with disabilities and four properties in the south bay. yesterday officials are santa clara and morgan hill talked about multiple projects. the mayor says it's a chance to repay a debt to citizens trying to earn a living in one of the most expensive regions in the country. >> we are sheltering at home. they stocked our shelves. they answer the call to 9-1-1.
