ukraine's president continues to stress. his country's need for more weapons. he's called on nato to donate one percent of its arsenal. nato has not granted that request. and in the east bay a polish school is showing support for ukrainian children who fled the country abc 7 news reporter tara campbell went to walnut creek today to capture the students in action as they put together their messages of hope. yes, we love it. it's beautiful from toddlers to teenagers. students at the polish school in walnut creek are getting behind the children of ukraine riding like we're with you. hair were on your side the plan is to send these messages to poland to the children who have fled ukraine made lots of arts and crafts. we actually got these from our teacher there are more than 130 students enrolled at the polish school here. they learn everything from the

android tv now to our countdown to the oscars tomorrow night here on abc 7 the finishing touches are being put on before the celebs walk the red carpet and abc 7 news. anchor kumasi aaron joins us live from the dolby theater with more hello kumasi. hi evanda. you see how quiet it is behind me. i like to think that this is the calm before the store because we all know it just a few hours. this red carpet is gonna be packed and there's just gonna be so many stars here in nominees and everybody i spoke with is really excited to see them. so we went walking around around the dolby theater not too long ago, and we were able to talk with fans who were here trying to get a gl. of everything that's going on here. trying to see the red carpet here at the dolby theater now last year there was nothing to see here because the oscars were held at union station, but this year plenty of people here on hollywood boulevard plenty of cars lots of traffic too and people we spoke with said that they're just happy to see things getting back to normal.

that's back, you know with covid and everything like everything has been so shut up for so long. it really like is a sign of hope to know that something like the oscars is happening and just being someone who like really geeks out over celebrities and the oscars in particular being able to be in the exact same spot where it's happening this year is just so exciting to me. how cool is it to see the oscars here getting ready? you know, i honestly want to say like it's super amazing and i think my friends and everybody would agree. i'm super excited to see beyonce, you know, i've been a fan of her since i was a little gay boy, but you know, i'm just excited for the oscars to be out here in hollywood the heart of it and i think it's gonna be great. it's exciting to see them back, you know in person and and even seen traffic usually there was in this traffic last year, so it's kind of you know, it gives a little bit a sense of enormousy back in la. i'm watching like as much as i can. i don't know what logistics are on if i can stand outside. but me and my roommate are

bay san leandro police or investigating the city's first homicide of the year investigators. say a fight last night inside kunia's cocktails led to a shooting when officers. arrived, they found a person with multiple gunshot wounds outside the bar. the victim leader died at the hospital police have not yet identified the suspected shooter. anyone with information is asked to call san leandro police. in the south bay the community said farewell to rookie, san jose police officer and former, san jose state football star dej. held at redemption church in san jose. the 24 year old was found dead at his milpitas home earlier. this month has cause of death

in the rain rolls in and we have a storm coming our way. we have an unusual wind pattern right now some spots as you take a look at this graphic are quite calm and others have strong breezy conditions 22 mile per hour surface winds here in san francisco right now, but the wind is calm and novato and san mateo and half moon bay, andeezy out tre rigow, buterone to tit w a this it's going to get chilly as we get into the next couple days. a view from sutro tower looking out over san francisco where it. also 52 at mountain view we have low to mid 50s at oakland, san jose santa clara and a cool 46 at half moon bay. nice view from the east bay hills camera looking back across the bay. you can see a little thin low clouds developing out over the bay right now high clouds are increasing as well. but this is a pretty good view considering that a storm is on the way 50 degrees right now in santa rosa 47 at petaluma. we have low to make fifties at napa fairfield conquered and livermore.

and one more live view from the mount tam camera looking down onto a portion of san francisco. these are our forecast features clouds will continue increasing overnight rain arrives late tomorrow late afternoon into the evening hours and it's going to be wet and gusty tomorrow night into monday now for tonight. this is the way future radar looks just continuing increase in the clouds. there may be an isolated sprinkle or two developing in the early morning hours, but not very widespread. so we're not looking at wet weather for most of the day tomorrow, but later in the day the storm arise but before we get to that let's take a look at overnight low temperatures. we'll see mainly mid to upper 40s in our inland areas right around the bay shoreline. we'll see upper 40s to about 50 degrees as our lows and on the coast mid to upper 40s as well and tomorrow's highs by 60 and half moon bay 65 in san francisco, oakland 67 moving down to the south bay. we'll see highs of 69 at san jose 78 morgan hill the in be oh high temperatures tomorrow in the low 70s and up in the north bay. we'll have our coolest weather

with highs in the mid 50s. now, here's a little mid 60s rather. here's a look at the storm impact scale the approaching storm ranks won a storm of light intensity for tomorrow night and monday we expect rain moderate at times occasional downpours and gusty conditions, especially at the coast. so five o'clock tomorrow afternoon. we'll see this wave of rain move in it'll be steady moderate rain for most of the night overnight into early. morning beginning to taper off as the morning commute begins on monday, but we'll have wet pavement and probably some slippery roadways then the storm starts to wind down late in the day monday rainfall. total is about anywhere from just under half an inch to close to an inch and over in the sierra. we expect about two three maybe up to about five inches of snow. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast after monday. we started to get some partial clearing tuesday and wednesday. we'll be mainly sunny days a little bit milder, but then we got got quite a warm-up starting late in the week. tweaking going into next weekend. it'll feel more like spring sunny skies mild conditions amanda. all right. thank you so much

before radio. it's the oldest trail race in the country above community tradition, but for all its fame and recognition few know about its place in history in women's history and the fight to give women equal opportun. unity to participate in sports a hundred years ago women weren't allowed to compete in the dipsy race because it was unhealthy for their reproductive health. yes for decades women were not allowed to run in the dipsy race or any race for that matter people thought it was too dangerous and undignified. but for the dipsy there was one exception a five-year period from 1918 to 1922. it was called the dipsy hike back then it had to be called a hike because people didn't believe that women could race, but that did not stop these women. they didn't just walk this trail they ran it and some even in a lot of the women at that time were wearing high-heeled leather boots and rea w alr and dipsy racist story in

she's hand making all of the bibs for a commemorative centennial hike taking place on april 30th. , which is handmade fabric w tyo bibs for all the participants and all the runners one of the most important things i really wanted to do was to share with girls of today. what pioneering young women before us did and so i thought what better match than to have pioneering young women of 2022 working on a project to celebrate the pioneering young women of 1922 the hike next month. is open to anyone who wants to pay homage to the women of 1922 participants are encouraged to wear period costumes these are photos from the first commemorative hike in 2018 among the crowd then descendants of the original dipsy hike runners. it still gives me goosebumps the

daughter of the winner in 1918 came. this is a hundred year gap and she came with a picture that no one had seen before of her mother holding the winners cup from 19. which she the mother had donated? in world war two to a scrap metal drive so that trophy wasn't there anymore, but the picture was that woman edith hickman it would be and other women were once again given the opportunity to race. the change came after an incident at the boston marathon when kathy switzer disguised in a baggy sweat suit was caught running in the race video of the race director tackling her was caught on camera and this created a big people said it's time for women to be allowed in racist.

yesterday i had the pleasure of reading to second and third graders to san francisco community school in san francisco's excels. district we read larry gets lost in san francisco. this is part of our parent company disney's magic of storytelling initiative. it inspires imagination and a lifelong love of reading and helps provide books to educators who serve kids in need and after we read we went outside for a little hula hooping and you can see the expert there the tall guy a little hooping and it was a lot of fun. the kids were great. we were i was reading to miss joy's class and it was way to be there fantastic you wear you're a man of many hats with that. hula hooping and all those skills, and i do have to give a shout out to the kids growing up in the excels here. i was one of them. thank you so much spencer nana chris with a preview of sports. amanda coming up in sports spring training continues for the giants and a's and with the warriors season winding down why klay thompson's performance last night is a good sign for the
