reggie: the best way to keep people safe is to test speed enforcement cameras. we are finding this big city proposal comes with putbac push. reporter: some say this will enhance safety others say it is a violation of privacy. san jose mayor testifying for automated speed cameras to reduce speeding and reckless driving. he addresses the transportation committee yesterday. california law prohibits cities from using these speed cameras but assembly bill 2336 will allow places like san jose, oakland and others to establish a speed safety system pilot program. it would put these cameras in high injury intersections made

san jose police expected to provide an update on the shooting in which an officer shot someone. they responded to a report of a person with a gun inside la victoria near san jose state university sunday morning. the department between two these photos of a fight and struggle over a gun. they also released body camera images showing a man holding a gun. police have not made any arrests in the person shot by the officer is expected to survive. kumasi: the fda could authorize a second booster for americans over 50 as soon as today. these are likely to be offered but not formally recommended. it leaves set up to people to make their own decision with their doctors based on health and age. next week the fda will consider a second booster for the rest of americans along with the need for a very specific booster --variant specific booster. it is on track to become the dominant strain in the u.s.

reporter: here is an example for you to consider over your coffee. do you think decorative plants like these in front of this hotel should be watered when we are in a drought and being told to conserve water? the governor does not think so. he wants state regulators to ban the watering of decorative plants and he is talking about in front of businesses and government buildings. the plant does not include golf courses or homes. he is also calling on local water districts to cut use as we start this year off as one of the driest on record. some water districts like santa clara are already asking residents to use much less water. >> we saw a record start to our year. here we are at the end of march. we did not have the miracle we hoped for. record dry weather january, february and march. everybody should know this is a serious situation.

everybody needs to take it seriously and they need to take conservation seriously. amy: that district, santa clara, already asking customers to cut water usage back by 15%. the governor wants water districts to at least enact level two water saving plans. that could limit the number of days residents are allowed to water lawns. this proposal did not allow watering of decorative plants would have to be approved by state regulators for going into effect. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. reggie: thank you. now to the follow from will smith's slap of chris rock. smith apologized to the comedian. kumasi: this as we learned about the potential consequences he could face. mona kosar abdi has more on the decision being made by the academy. last month on who should be eligible for reparations but that did not happen. the task force needed more time. members disagreed on whether there was sufficient expert testimony to make a decision. now that vote could happen today. the issue at hand is who should qualify for reparations. should be those who contract lineage to those enslaved in america? or black americans at large still affected by systemic racism and inequities? slavery's lasting legacy today. advocates say compensation could clee college, assistance buying homes and launching businesses, and grants to churches and community organizations. reggie: thank you. florida governor ron desantis signed the don't say gay bill into law. it bans instruction about sexual orientation and gender identity in some classrooms. educators of public schools will not be allowed to have classroom instruction or discussion about lgbtq topics in kindergarten through third grade and the law

this multimillion dollar project aims to keep bikers and drivers safe within the city. dustin: with high gas prices and environmental concerns more people in santa clara are turning away from cars to get around town. >> as we all try to get out of our cars to reduce emissions we all need to look at alternate modes of transportation and bicycles are the way to go. dustin: santa clara is standing by their push to paddle with the new plan that received -- pedal with a new plan that received federal funding. ro khanna announced $2.75 million will be used for bikeway projects. >> this is consistent with safety, consistent with allowing people to be able to use their bikes to get to work, to get to their friends, it is good for the environment. dustin: seven miles of roadway throughout the city will be retrofitted with new projects like bike lanes and barriers for riders. along these busy roads bikers have to share lanes with drivers in the city aims make commuting
